How many cases in your child’s school so far?

Magnavixen · 11/09/2020 15:04

Our children back have been back to school since last Thursday.

So far 3 positive cases in 3 different year groups.

They are in bubbles of approximately 180 students each.
2 of the positive cases have been in their year groups.
Only close contacts required to isolate.

I’m surprised at how quickly the cases are appearing. Is anyone else experiencing the same?

My school's risk assessment won't tell parents or close bubbles unless two confirmed cases in the same bubble. So technically we could have 7 positives (1 in each year) and no one would be notified.

If staff test positive then no bubble will close. Because apparently staff are distancing from students. We are 100% not distancing but the risk assessment says we are
So if I had a positive test, none of my classes would be notified as I am not sure "in their bubble"

So there may be cases we don't know about depending on the risk assessment. It's bullshit but it's compliant

Newjez · 11/09/2020 17:52

None yet, but it's only been a week.

MarshaBradyo · 11/09/2020 17:53

Well none that I know of

But they only assess after two according to school document

Hotcuppatea · 11/09/2020 17:55

Zero. The school has more than 2000 students.

MissScarletInTheSnug · 11/09/2020 18:01

One pupil and one member of staff at the secondary school I work at. We are in an 'area of concern' where a factory had a big outbreak a couple of weeks ago.

littleowl1 · 11/09/2020 19:54

@Magnavixen

We havent had cases yet but I know its only a matter of time. And I am totally dreading it.

We were pretty worried with our daughter going back to school last summer term when school reopened, to such an extent that I started pulling the daily coronavirus data in our local council to help us decide what to do. Anyway I did end up setting up an email service www.covidmessenger.com.

Each day I compile the latest number of lab-confirmed, positive coronavirus cases across the country into a bitesize email – one for each district council in the UK - and send it out.

You are most welcome to sign up for the email for your local council so you can keep an eye what is happening locally. I subscribe to three (of my own emails!) as my daughters school's catchment area straddles three councils and I really want to know if there is an outbreak in one before it makes its way into the school.

One confirmed case with staff member. Her kids felt unwell over weekend so she contacted head to say she might need to self isolate. But because the symptoms they displayed weren't the ones we have to look out for she was told to come in. Thankfully her kids decided to get tested and they came back positive so she then tested positive.
Colleague wasn't at work on Monday as she was doing a course at home. But she worked within her bubble last Friday. They were all initially told to self isolate then a few hours later told to come in the next day as Public Health England said the infected staff member had been away from them 48hours! Another colleague in the same bubble spoke to NHS 111 who said they should self isolate. She went back to the head with this info and was told she can self isolate but she won't get paid! She's opted to self isolate!
I've lost confidence with the head teacher after all this. Too many mixed messages. Half the students in the class are out but those who weren't in that day are still coming and are none the wiser.
For context I work in a special needs school with up to 4 adults in a room and some students will touch you without washing hands, cough on you and not socially distance due to the nature of their needs.
I feel the head doesn't give a shit about the staff. She sits in her locked office and is completely safe.

Southernsoftie76 · 11/09/2020 20:40

Special needs school, 1 case, child in hospital.

gluteustothemaximus · 11/09/2020 20:43

Several with covid symptoms awaiting tests.

One confirmed case in first week.

But parents are completely unaware of anything going on. So if you were to ask any parent at our school, they'd say 0 cases.

Potterpotterpotter · 11/09/2020 20:56

0 in both my kids schools.

WearyandBleary · 11/09/2020 21:16

Since posting here earlier we’ve just had a case confirmed and 200 now In quarantine. I’m scared of the speed this is picking up.

Passmethecrisps · 11/09/2020 21:18

None in the school I work in and none that I am aware of in the school my children are in. We have been back 5 weeks

Southernsoftie76 · 11/09/2020 21:26

@littleowl1 I have signed up to your covid site and it is fantastic, thank you so much for doing that. I’m keeping an eye on the rising numbers and will pull my kid out of school when I feel it’s necessary. Thank you once again Flowers

Ginogineli · 11/09/2020 21:27

One case and 200 in quarantine Raman the achool is crap

Sorry but that’s bad management

One case shouldn’t mean so many isolating

That proves their measures are rubbish

QuentinInQuarantino · 12/09/2020 08:53

Spain, one of the Covid hotspots, been back a week.

DCs small primary - none
Huge 2-18 school I work in with 2000 sts- also none!

I'm pleasantly surprised but were taking lots of precautions. All kids above 5 are wearing masks and were maintaining distances where we can, no extra curricular etc.

Fatted · 12/09/2020 08:56

Big fat zero.

Even my kids say zero, and they are the reliable source of information about what goes on in there!!

MissScarletInTheSnug · 12/09/2020 09:49

I have friends with kids in other schools, one case in a two form entry primary; four in a large secondary; two other secondaries each with cases. This is all in the same town.

xyzandabc · 12/09/2020 09:54

Primary - none
Secondary A - None but a student from a different school that shares a bus with Secondary A children has tested positive so students that go on that bus are isolating.
Secondary B - 1 but tested positive before school opened at the start of term so they didn't attend school at the start of term, they have now returned and so far no other cases.

Tatum1234 · 12/09/2020 09:59

None in either school

REDLIPSTICKANDNAILS · 12/09/2020 10:04

Primary 0
Secondary 0

Sirzy · 12/09/2020 10:07

3 cases from one family. 3 classes from ks2 (5 classes in total) now off for the next week

wishing3 · 12/09/2020 10:10

One child case in our small primary and lots of isolating precautionary for possible symptoms separate from that.

MetallicHighlights · 12/09/2020 10:15

3 pupils and 1 member of staff with positive tests. Two year groups affected but only a few close contacts have been asked to isolate. 1000 pupil secondary.

Suzi7979 · 12/09/2020 10:15

School been open for 3 days.
1 case so far confirmed, a whole year group and staff are self -isolating.

YouSetTheTone · 12/09/2020 10:16

None. Primary school in Kent, one form intake per year. One DC in yr 4 and one in reception.
A child in yr 4 got a cough and mild temperature and was kept off and tested - negative.
