Anyone in the North East?

Gateshead has just been added to the govt watchlist and Newcastle is on amber alert. Sunderland have had over 200 cases in the past seven days.

Are we next for a local lockdown? What do you think it will entail? Given Newcastle's reputation as a party city I'm guessing restricted hours for bars maybe - they were packed to the rafters over the August bank holiday weekend, which may account for lots of the new cases.

@Rainydayss could you not form a support bubble between you and your friend? That way everything should be ok?

Ellapaella · 17/09/2020 13:26

I am confused as to whether I can meet my parents outdoors, not in a garden but say for example a walk?

GalaxyCookieCrumble · 17/09/2020 13:28

@Rainydayss

What about childcare? I do alternative school pick ups with one of my DS friends from his class, his mum does other days so we can both work. But surely that's safer than sending him to childminder with children not in his school bubble?
Just watched Matt Hancock live answering or NOT answering questions. What a absolute numpty he is. Lots and lots of MPs telling him that no one could get a test, yet it still did not register with him, he refuted these claims and said tests were available.

This is utter bullshit and control. How can a curfew stop the spread of Covid?

The mighty blue NE wall is falling, the Police have not got the manpower to enforce this. This Government needs to go.

iamabox · 17/09/2020 13:30

My son is in year 2 in primary, and his teacher tested positve and his whole class has been sent home today for 2 weeks to isolate.

iamabox · 17/09/2020 13:30

I'm in Sunderland.

Ranunculi · 17/09/2020 13:32

I assume this is all a no go now?
If someone is in the NE thy aren’t allowed to mix with anyone outside their household (unless they live alone, then they can mix with one other household).

I am confused as to whether I can meet my parents outdoors, not in a garden but say for example a walk?
That’s mixing with someone outside your household, so no. Indoors or outdoors makes no difference.

if they can't meet at home then they'll just go to a pub and meet
You’re only allowed to go to the pub with someone from your household. So they won’t be allowed to share a table with someone from another household.

This all should have been clarified and I’m really annoyed that it hasn’t been, because people are just going to continue looking for loopholes. Also why can’t people just be bloody sensible instead of trying to find ways around the rules?!

GalaxyCookieCrumble · 17/09/2020 13:32

@BessieSurtees

Waiting in anticipation for the details in the announcement but I can’t see how this is going to work with students or how it is going to be enforceable.
My older 2 DC are at Uni, but are doing their lessons online so not to go in, the physical part of the course has been pushed back to next summer.
Plussizejumpsuit · 17/09/2020 13:32

That map! Confused
I was hoping for more detail. I don't really know why because things haven't been very clear before now.

Test update : managed to get one in Scotland and thought I'd chance it a great park. Wouldn't let me get tested. I pretty much begged. He said up until last week they had been doing that and you could go anywhere but they just stopped it. Then when I pulled over for a little moment to myself I tried again and 74 slots were available in Sunderland but when I got to the confirmation page it just took me back to the start. So not generated a qr code. I tried different details my partner tried on a different device but no joy. Just feel very frustrated. I'm speaking to my GP later as my sinus pain is horrific. I'd cry but it hurts too much.

How's everyone feeling? Any idea on what this means for family childcare?

GalaxyCookieCrumble · 17/09/2020 13:35

Sorry @Rainydayss I posted before I finished typing,

MH said childcare restrictions would essentially come under local control, still none the wiser. Just do what is best for you and your family

parmahampam · 17/09/2020 13:36

We’re a family of 4 in North Tyneside - can we still see my mum, who lives alone in Yorkshire? Is she still considered to be in our support bubble?

Jrobhatch29 · 17/09/2020 13:36

@Ellapaella

I am confused as to whether I can meet my parents outdoors, not in a garden but say for example a walk?
Same, but I dont think so 😭 I'm on maternity leave and since my kids went back to school I've been meeting my mam on her lunch hour for a walk round the park. It's broke the day up for me, can't believe I can't even do that now😔
UpToonGirl · 17/09/2020 13:40

@Plussizejumpsuit I've been told 10 and 2 are the best times to try, crossing my fingers you can get a test at some point. We went to the centre at Byker last week and although we had an app, I could hear the guys on the door saying they had a couple of walk ins and they just checked if they had space, which they did. Might be different this week though.

Ranunculi · 17/09/2020 13:42

Truthfully I think people are just going to ignore these rules. It’s ridiculous to say you can go to the pub and sit next to strangers but you can’t visit your parents.

kittykarate · 17/09/2020 13:43

@Ellapaella

I am confused as to whether I can meet my parents outdoors, not in a garden but say for example a walk?
If they follow the greater manchester restrictions, then you could. But who knows, they're probably still spinning the roulette wheel on the Covid Restrictions Radomizer (confusion guaranteed).

I wouldn't make (or break) an plans until the details hit the .gov website.

Thiswillbeinteresting · 17/09/2020 13:44

@iamabox

oh no @iamabox I think there will be a lot more cases like this Sad
Rosehip10 · 17/09/2020 13:49

@jackfruitz single people like your mil are supposed to form a support bubble with one household only.....

Damnthat1sTaken · 17/09/2020 13:49

Has anyone seen any information about childminders for the duration of this lockdown? V stressed about wrap around childcare

Bearfrills · 17/09/2020 13:50

Micro-pub in Newcastle Grin

Judging from comments on our local FB page there will be very few people following the new rules in my corner of Northumberland. There are already loads of people on there saying they like shopping because at the local co-op because you don't have to wear a mask Hmm

Anyone in the North East?
Looneytune253 · 17/09/2020 13:51

@Damnthat1sTaken registered childcare can still take place

QueenofStella · 17/09/2020 13:52

That bloody map - no-one does any research because they could not give 2 fucks about the north-east. I’m living in West Gateshead but Mackem and proud!

Anywho - Blaydon Morrisons and Metrocentre Asda and Aldi seem fine at the mo for supplies etc.

Bearfrills · 17/09/2020 13:59

Killingworth Morrison's was fine too, a little busier than usual but not heaving.

PennyDreadfuI · 17/09/2020 14:01

A Chronicle journalist has just tweeted this regarding childcare - the government have rejected Newcastle council's proposal to allow family to help.

Dickheads.

Anyone in the North East?

PennyDreadfuI · 17/09/2020 14:03

Asda Gosforth was really quiet when I got there at about midday but was heaving about half an hour later. Could be coincidence or could be panic buying, let's hope it's the former.

@HarrietOh

Darlington isn't going to be included in these measures. Seems a bit strange!
Really? Very strange considering the increase in cases with a 28:2 ratio this morning.

Nowt interesting happens in Costa Del Darlo after 10PM anyway!

52andblue · 17/09/2020 14:08

I am north Northumberland, not far from Berwick upon Tweed.
I have two kids with ASD both access mainstream school by public bus during rush hour. Neither can travel alone and it's nearly 20 miles away.
What happens now?
I cant go with them (£10 each way) either could be sent home at any point and then neither can go in. Their Dad lives 40m away but that is allowed under contact with other parent still like in April?

did they say how long it is FOR please?
