Will the new law on social gatherings make you reconsider your activities?

Yes or no?

OP posts:
Pebblexox · 09/09/2020 15:59

Nope. I shall continue to do as I've been doing.
I think it's a stupid law. My town has 12 active cases out of a population of 104,000 I'm not worried about the risks.

Hereinthesticks · 09/09/2020 16:10

Just realised that saying 'no' implied I would break rules. To be clear: I won't have to change anything simply because I don't meet up socially with anyone at all, ever, except DC who do go to school (it's compulsory). So no, I have no activities or plans to change because I have no activities or plans, full stop. Still in lockdown mode, like many others.
Hope that is clearer for the poster on another thread.

But asymptomatic spread is a real danger.

No, but we are indoors so not exactly openly visible

SeekingCoffee33 · 09/09/2020 17:01

Yes I will abide by the rules. They aren’t that terrible. They said this afternoon it is to prevent a second lockdown. I don’t want another lockdown with more restrictions.

If you haven’t heard they are also hiring Covid Martials to police

Spodge · 09/09/2020 17:12

Yes. I have been following guidelines but would consider flouting them (not in any outrageous way, but still). Won't break the law, though.

Judging by some of the threads on here, there will be people desperate to apply for this role.

I agree. Why wouldn't we?

You'd better tell us where you live then, so the rest of us can avoid going there!

My goodness, Covid Martials, whatever next; are they up there with eco monitors?

I too will abide by the rules but I recognise it is easier for me than for some.

Just been told by my other half that our town has them already, dressed as characters out of Frozen. There's authority for you!!

Not me, but dd was hoping to have some drinks with friends from her year bubble for her 18th next month. Was planning to go to a park, but i guess that cant happen now.

CountFosco · 09/09/2020 18:00

@userxx

Seems daft when they are all at school together.

It's ridiculous. Can you not do the party this weekend ?

Sadly no, we've got family coming (1 household and we'll be in the garden all day and using separate toilets, they've been very cautious so this might be the last time we see them for months as cases rise).

Might get my older DC to see friends so at least he could have 3 friends over.

DamageInc · 09/09/2020 18:01

I joked about MIL not coming away with us upthread but she’s decided not to risk being arrested (a friend has convinced her she’ll be carted away) so we’re back down to a holiday cottage for six and within the guidelines.
Shame really.

Jagoda · 09/09/2020 19:03

Yes! I will now be able to meet up with small groups (no more than 6 in total) of friends which I couldn't do before.

Really excited and already booked some lunches/nights out Grin

As a single person with adult DC, it's lovely to be able to do this. I will, as I have throughout, adhere completely to all the rules. I am confused though about whether we can all (six in total from six different households) go on a UK mini break in a cottage? Does the Rule of Six apply to overnights does anyone know?

I think we probably can't because of Social Distancing but very little makes sense any more.....

ShouldWeChangeTheBulb · 09/09/2020 19:06

Yes changing a couple of different plans.

tsmainsqueeze · 09/09/2020 19:15

no - can't have more than 6 in my house but could in theory go to a wedding every saturday with 30 people there, plus the odd funeral.
i won,t be going wild ,quietish life anyway but will be doing my own thing using my common sense not the governments .

But people are unlikely to go to weddings every weekend are they, so it's a moot point.

Why do people do this? It's just silly

Kidneybingo · 09/09/2020 19:48

I think this is probably also due to the realisation that people will start to move indoors now. Many people have been able to socialise outside up until now.

CokeyCola · 09/09/2020 19:51

Will have to as we had an event for 30 people organised in a function room in 11 days time. Nightmare as it is people travelling from all over the country and everyone has paid for hotel rooms.. Why would you do that in the middle of a pandemic. Why did they not think Covid numbers would increase?

Even the vicar does not do this!
