Child's school opened last week, email about a confirmed case in a child yesterday........ and so it begins. So not brought in by staff having coffee breaks in this instance(can you tell those comments annoyed me lol).

I don't expect my child to be in school for very long, he has a massive year group bubble and statistically it is likely there will be a confirmed case before very long.

hopeishere · 31/08/2020 08:58

Fully expect my kids to be in and out of school like yo-yos this term. Possibly next.

Lostinagoodbook · 31/08/2020 09:00

Bit rude?!! Don't read if you're not interested:-|. This is the coronavirus section.......

@HerLadySheep yes I do feel sorry for those families already unable to work days into term and dreading telling my boss if/when I have to do the same.

To clarify- my child is not a close contact so not isolating- just expressing sympathy with those affected and yes I am a bit surprised it only took a few days........

They think if they belittle posters then everything will go away and they can go back to their beach and their head sized hole.
notevenat20 · 31/08/2020 09:07

That's fast! Does that mean that they were infected before they went back to school?

dementedpixie · 31/08/2020 09:12

mine have been back nearly 3 weeks and no cases there yet thank goodness. 900 odd pupils in the school too. Have sent mine in with masks today - very surreal

Not necessarily.
notevenat20 · 31/08/2020 09:14

Lostinagoodbook

How many days had they been in school before they tested positive?

Lostinagoodbook · 31/08/2020 09:32

Email came out this weekend, school went back last week. Different year groups started different days so not sure how long in school. Could have been from school or before in theory. It's a primary.

Not pleased to have been proven right (one case doesn't prove a point anyway?!) @BillywilliamV as it means it will spread faster if it turns out kids are just as good at carrying it as teachers... . but it is good to balance the( somewhat deluded imo) "teachers will spread it kids won't " mindset.

An asymptomatic member of staff could well have introduced it, not just kids who have no symptoms after all.

Personally just relieved that I dont have to be off work myself just yet as only returning this week from maternity.....

OP posts:
notevenat20 · 31/08/2020 09:41

There is an argument that asymptomatic people don't spread it as much simply because they don't cough or sneeze.

LaLaLandIsNoFun · 31/08/2020 09:44

Are you Leicestershire, OP?

I’m expecting before the end of September but bloody hell - 3 days back and a confirmed case is fast

ErinBrockovich · 31/08/2020 09:48

I’m dreading this.
I started a business in January which I then had to fold as I couldn’t justify the expense during the virus. I’m on the verge of relaunching but I just can’t if I’m going to be getting my 5yr old back from school for a couple of weeks with no notice or childcare.
The only positive is my younger child has been in nursery full time since June with no confirmed cases, so fingers crossed.

notevenat20 · 31/08/2020 09:50

It is 5 days until the first symptoms so if they were tested because they had symptoms it seems likely they were infected before.

itsgettingweird · 31/08/2020 09:50

I'd be interested if they kept a record of how many of these students have come from abroad/ been on plane. Where from etc.

I've seen increasing reports the past few days of holiday makers testing positive.

I hope that a) it makes people take quarantine more seriously and b) it doesn't create a second seeding event like before.

TeddyIsaHe · 31/08/2020 09:53

Just on the other side - Dd has been back at nursery full time since June 2nd. There’s 84 children that attend over the course of the week and there hasn’t been a single positive test from children, parents or staff. Touch wood!!

They do have bubbles based on the ages of the children, but no social distancing and no PPE for the staff. It’s been really good. So it is highly likely most kids will go back and have no incidents of cases.

Longwhiskers14 · 31/08/2020 09:53

It sounds as though the child was probably already infected before school reopened. How many have been sent home to quarantine, OP?

Delatron · 31/08/2020 09:54

Our local secondary is now delaying opening for a week after a group of 40 (yes 40!) of the students went to a Greek island a few weeks ago.

18 have tested positive on return. So all sports clubs in the area also off for the moment.

It’s actually quite worrying for our town. We were down to hardly any cases and I worry how much these teenagers have spread it before they realised.

AlwaysLatte · 31/08/2020 09:55

I would expect a bit of yo-yo-ing in and out of school for the foreseeable future tbh. I just hope that they will get enough tuition in and that the kids aren't too distracted by all of this. I can imagine that the curriculum will have to factor this in to help staff manage the disruption. I am so glad I don't work in education right now and hats off to those that do.

TeddyIsaHe · 31/08/2020 09:55

@Delatron bloody hell! Did they all go together? Or just end up at the same place?

How stupid can their parents be fgs, I’d be furious. Hopefully it doesn’t cause a spike for you.

Lostinagoodbook · 31/08/2020 09:57

Leicestershire yes. My youngest has also been at nursery since June with no issues although they are very strict on isolating with cold symptoms and testing in case. Just unlucky to be so soon I guess!!

OP posts:
Lostinagoodbook · 31/08/2020 09:57

@Longwhiskers14 not sure how many. Close contacts(staff and chn) apparently.

Yeah, I crossed a busy road yesterday and didn't get hit by a car. So, I reckon that millions of others can do the same and there will be no incidents of injuries.
