Wear a face mask at school drop off?

Will you wear a face mask to drop off or pick up the kids on the school run? It’s going to be chaotic enough in the playground especially with rubbish weather.

No. Only if I need to enter the school building. That's the directive from the school my DC go to.

itispersonal · 28/08/2020 03:27

My dd school recommends a mask for outside drop off and pick up, not sure why? No other guidance states wearing them outside, so don't think I'll wear one.

Topseyt · 28/08/2020 03:35

Not that I have school age children any longer, but I wouldn't unless I was actually entering the school buildings.

I won't wear a mask any more than I absolutely have to.

DeepTreacle · 28/08/2020 03:52

No I wouldn’t if the school didn’t require it

(Wait now for posts from people in countries where masks are mandated outdoors at all times for all people aged 2yo upwards, about how they all Just Get On With It and wear masks with joy in their hearts)

Florrieboo · 28/08/2020 06:48

How would a face mask add to the chaos? I wear one all the time where I live, it is just normal to me now and I hardly notice it. I will probably find it strange when we can go out without one again.
So in short yes I would wear one at school drop off and pick up.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 28/08/2020 06:59

No way. Our school are doing staggered drop offs for each year group so it won't be chaotic. Plus the risk outdoors is tiny.

GeordieLass01 · 28/08/2020 07:20

My baby goes to nursery and this was introduced a few weeks back, so I’ll just keep my mask on when dropping off or collecting my Y1 child from school - there’s no harm in doing so.

Blerg · 28/08/2020 07:34

Yes, school have asked us to. We have staggered drop offs though and I’ll have to wait around for a bit with it on, which sucks, but I will.

TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 · 28/08/2020 07:52

Yes, we've been asked to as not doing staggered starts/ends and it's a big school so hundreds of parents dropping of LOs.

MrsBlondie · 28/08/2020 07:57

No. Its outside and I'll keep apart from others as one way system and staggered times

yawnsvillex · 28/08/2020 07:57

Full hazmat with gas masks. There is a pandemic don't you know???

DominaShantotto · 28/08/2020 08:00

Nope. I have exemption reasons anyway and we have staggered starts and different gates for different year groups.

SexTrainGlue · 28/08/2020 08:02

If you can keep at least 2m away from people, then there is no need.

badlydrawnbear · 28/08/2020 08:23

I don't think so, as I will be outside and hopefully the staggered timing will mean there is no need to be within 2m of the same person for any length of time. I might take a mask with me on the first day and see things are and then I can put it on if there does seem to be any liklihood of being in close contact with anyone.

Deelish75 · 28/08/2020 09:50

Not when dropping/collecting from outside. I keep one in my bag in case I have to go into the building.

OLGADEEPOLGA · 28/08/2020 10:02

No

Castiel07 · 28/08/2020 10:14

Will if the school ask, its going to be a nightmare as have 2 children that go in at different times (20 mins of waiting around).

Lucindainthesky · 28/08/2020 10:17

Yes. I think it's going to be chaotic.

ColdTattyWaitingForSummer · 28/08/2020 10:21

I think I would. Even outside you’re likely to be in close proximity to a lot of people (judging by what I’m seeing outside schools here), more so than just on a general walk. It’s probably not strictly necessary, but I do think it would add another layer of protection. I’d be the same about any outside space that’s especially busy or difficult to distance.
We each have to make our own choices though, and measure risk for ourselves.

Vinoonasunnyday · 28/08/2020 10:21

Why would you?

It’s not a rule so why make new ones up?

Schools are not even making masks mandatory in any part of schools near me - and that’s right as that’s the gov advice

They are being recommended but that again is not gov advice unless in outbreak area and even then it’s only the pinch points eg corridors

Why are people trying to encourage masks on their children all day? It’s disgusting.

Most kids have been mixing and having sleepovers and been on holiday and now people are acting like it’s the apocalypse - it’s not normal

Kids were still in school mask free at a time where cases and deaths were sky high

Currently you’ve more chance of being struck by lightening it’s ridiculous🤷‍♀️

Masks at schools drop off - I’ve never heard anything so ott

It’s outside - they’re starting the bloody races up this month 🙈

HorridHamble · 28/08/2020 10:25

Our schools have been back for a couple of weeks now. There is no requirement to wear masks at drop off/pick up but a handful of people do. Everyone seems to be keeping an adequate distance when we are chatting too. Some of the teachers wear masks in the playground. It’s rained so much here lately that I can’t imagine soggy masks being very efficient. We do have a lot of space in front of the school though, rather than a cramped pavement.

pooopypants · 28/08/2020 10:35

I will be but personal choice because I want to minimise any risk.

Our school has one gate and the pavement isn't very wide, cars park outside (residential area, no zigzags) so difficult to maintain 2m distance, even with staggered drop offs.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 28/08/2020 10:38

All schools have different set ups. We have staggered times, bit it's still 60 children plus parents at each drop off point at each time. DD1 it's playground- lots of space. DD2 is a lot smaller space, and she's in Yr3 so it's a stricter pick up, so will be there longer. Pavements are narrow (Victorian street). So it's actually the most cramped place we will be.

LouiseNW · 28/08/2020 10:39

Yes. How does a mask add to chaos?

OhLookHeKickedTheBall · 28/08/2020 10:41

I will, I tend to outside when it's crowded and social distancing isn't an option. Even with staggered drop offs there's still little space for social distancing at our school.
