Will Trick or treating go ahead this year ?

Just thinking ahead, do you think trick or treating will be banned this Halloween due to COVID-19? It is an outdoor activity, but knocking on doors and grabbing sweets from a bowl... hmmm.

Not at all.

AnnaMariaDreams · 27/08/2020 21:19

DS is very excited about Halloween this year and wants us to do a graveyard in the garden!
He’s agreed that a bowl of wrapped sweets and a pump of hand sanitiser with a sign saying please take one on the front step is the way forward.
Hoping others do likewise.

MondeoFan · 27/08/2020 21:20

I'd like to think it will. Some folk around here just leave sweets on doorstep for children to take 1 or 2 anyway

FromEden · 27/08/2020 21:57

You can pre make up ziplock bags or similar with a few things in them and deposit them into the trick or treaters bags I suppose. A brief interaction like that should be safe and you could wear a mask. Many of the kids will be wearing masks as part of their costumes anyway! I'm in the US and its a big thing here. I can't see it not happening at all

MasterBruceBalloon · 27/08/2020 21:59

I am planning on putting together little bags for trick or treaters. I can also have hand sanitizer available.

I will also be doing extra activities for my little one this year. And maybe a outdoor 'party' for the neighbourhood kids.

Timeforabiscuit · 27/08/2020 22:00

No, it's evolved into a big deal in my neck of the woods, so it gets really crowded!

I've already said we're doing an at home Halloween party which will be AWESOME.

Uhoh2020 · 27/08/2020 22:02

Anything Halloween should be banned from shops, TV or anywhere else young children can get excited by it. My DS loves Halloween and has already been talking about his costume, if its not advertised anywhere I can keep blagging him that we are still waiting for the day to arrive Grin

purpleme12 · 27/08/2020 22:05

Really worried about this.
Worried about if people will think people shouldn't? And I don't know if people will think that or not

Castiel07 · 27/08/2020 22:08

Not sure I guess will have to see nearer the time.
This year I think I'll do a little party at home as a family.
Just won't be the same this year, hopefully next year things might be better.

HoldingTight · 27/08/2020 22:11

This is important to you?

Youzam · 27/08/2020 22:13

I’m thinking I will buy some new Halloween pyjamas for the kids instead of costumes and do some home baking, pumpkin decorating and spooky film night on the sofa. That way it’s still a special day for them.

Floatyboat · 27/08/2020 22:15

What about bonfire night. Anyone know if that's cancelled? Just trying to make plans.

purpleme12 · 27/08/2020 22:17

Need something to look forward to ☹️

DobbyTheHouseElk · 27/08/2020 22:17

The local fireworks here are cancelled.

Youzam · 27/08/2020 22:18

Lots of big displays have cancelled already. We’ll have to do something at home, would be lovely to think the family can come round for the evening to toast marshmallows on the fire pit and do sparklers in the garden. We’ll have to see.

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 27/08/2020 22:19

I'm taking mine. This year has taken enough away from my kids, it's not having fucking trick or treating.

ChaBishkoot · 27/08/2020 22:22

I live in America and the general consensus here is that Halloween this year won’t happen. (It really is a big big deal every year). I am mildly amused that it’s become such a big British thing.

ChaBishkoot · 27/08/2020 22:24

I am basing this on our local FB groups (for my immediate neighbourhood and the wider city). The consensus seems to be that dressing up is fine, but not the trick or treating bit.

Bool · 27/08/2020 22:25

I celebrated Halloween over 40 years ago and even then it was a big thing in the U.K.! It’s the rest of Europe where it isn’t so big.

BrieAndChilli · 27/08/2020 22:25

I was just thinking about this today. We live in a village so I was thinking that we could do a variation of our Christmas advent windows and get people to dress their house/window and be included on a map for people to walk around and see. Maybe some questions to answer eg how many bats in number 45 new street. Then have somewhere possibly the pub handing out Halloween goodie bags - people could contribute what they would normally put out for trick or treating.

jomaIone · 27/08/2020 22:26

Are we really planning this already? Jesus. I can't imagine a world where Halloween is a Special Day!!! Maybe not until I have kids in school? Don't know how this is even a big deal!

linmanuel · 27/08/2020 22:27

Are ppl really thinking about Halloween already? Confused

Normandy144 · 27/08/2020 22:29

We will definitely go ahead with it. I will sit outside on the front lawn and will have pre prepared bags of sweets the kids can take without the need for them to rifle through a bowl. There's going to be hand sanitizer available as well. I don't think it's fair for kids to miss out again.

gurglebelly · 27/08/2020 22:30

Better to assume that it's all a no this year, and then you can only be pleasantly surprised

TenDays · 27/08/2020 22:34

We normally dress the house up etc and accept 'visitors' but definitely not this year.
