Someone on here said this was exactly what would happen a week before they went back.

Boris has absolutely no conviction in anything

he is the ultimate populist politician

what a joke

BigChocFrenzy · 25/08/2020 21:46

Sturgeon is just doing her job, which is looking after Scotland

She is also mostly copying public health advice and policies from abroad, not just listening to public health experts in Scotland

BJ could have copied these first and got ahead of her, but ....

he always has to first pander to his Social Darwinist wing who oppose all COVID measures,
then he has to realise that England need these measures after all
then see if he can give any contracts to Tory chums
then finally he has to politically manage the U turn

This process takes time, which is why he always seems to be following her

Nat6999 · 25/08/2020 21:52

What will happen if masks are introduced in schools in poorer areas where there are high numbers of pupils from families on benefits who can't afford masks? Ds school has over 40% of pupils on free school meals, school provides breakfasts to ensure these kids do at least get fed. There needs to be some funding to buy masks otherwise parents will just not bother sending these kids to school as they do now if they can't afford uniform.

Grin Yes! Bullish but oh so blustering Boris. I don't blame Nicola for not hanging around waiting. I used to wonder if she just wanted the spotlight but you are right, she is doing her job.
latticechaos · 25/08/2020 22:16

@HeresMe

* Boris follows Nicola*

Except multiple times its gone other way but let's big up Nicola.

Genuine question, when has it? Because I haven't noticed sturgeon on the back foot around covid.
HeresMe · 25/08/2020 22:17

It's funny on Mumsnet how many support Nicola , she had meetings with her predessecor prior to his trial but hey.

cyclingmad · 25/08/2020 22:18

Why don't we just stop trying to force these uterus on the government. If Scotland want to wear masks let them. Honestly assess for ourselves and stick with it. He is now running on bloody public sentiment ffs.

guilttripjourno · 25/08/2020 22:23

I have seen posts now of people saying they will not send their kids to school, due to wearing a mask.

I am no supporter of Sturgeon (am not in Scotland for starters), but I notice you haven't given an example of when she has followed Johnson on covid - that was a genuine question I asked in response to your post.
BadTattoosAndSmellLikeBooze · 25/08/2020 22:39

Well, less kids will make social distancing easier for those that are there and feel safer with a mask.

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 25/08/2020 22:55

Nicola is looking good. Boris et al just follow her.

Quite insistent at lunchtime that there would be no mask review and not look

www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-53907035

U turn on results U turn on masks. I want to put in a claim for whiplash injuries

That will not happen. They will be relieved that schools are open again and that they dont have to do home schooling.

I dont actually live in Scotland but think she is doing a fine job. I wish we had a decisive leader here in England which would help when it comes to vote instead we just have this utter mess.
cyclingmad · 25/08/2020 23:07

This is what is soooo infuriating...first off esp on here people condemn Boris for not locking down quick enough, now you see posts about how we shouldn't of been locked down.

So many posts about how it was too early to ease up on restrictions when he announced it only months later you see posts again saying should have done it earlier.

Then its endless posts posts about how kids should wear masks im not sending my kids in, he announces no masks and peolle are saying he has got it wrong and make a fuss so he starts to reconsider it and now people saying they won't send their kids in.

Ffs make your minds up no wonder he can never seem to get it right cos you flip your views every time.
He never do right in your eyes

Didkdt · 25/08/2020 23:15

@cyclingmad let's face it the silent majority who can never get a word in edgeways are never the prolific posters on MN.
I do think Nicola Sturgeon has massaged Scotland Covid figures and gone out of her way to make a point she was doing it her way even timing her Thursday press conferences to get the first word in.

She and Blackford are miserable England haters, and yet it's Westminster accused of hating foreigners.

I think he needs to lead.

His issue is he never says what he wants to do.

No leader gets everyone. The point is they lead and take a decent chunk.

Johnson just blows in the wind

Uhoh2020 · 25/08/2020 23:27

100% but not because they cant be bothered with home schooling or its too big of a chore, but because they realise the best place for their children to get a decent education is in the classroom not at home with a parent winging it. If it was so easy to teach im sure the training and degrees required wouldn't be necessary.

....
If she was lying about Scotland's deaths or cases, that would be impossible to keep quiet
Bound to be a public servant who'd shop the leader of any country doing that

btw, since Scotland has a lower population density than England
even if BJ was performing as well as she has, England would still have higher figures

BigChocFrenzy · 26/08/2020 02:56

Oh and I think Independence would not be good economically for Scotland at least in the short term and I would miss them in the UK,
but that is for Scottish voters to decide

I can separate my views on Indy from my assessment on Sturgeon's general competence, or specifically on her performance during the COVID crisis

trodinaboris · 26/08/2020 04:15

@Newjez

Who pays for the masks? They are not cheap, and if you use them probably you will go through several a day.
This, how are low income people supposed to afford them ? Online 8 triple layer masks are £30, that's a lot.
walksen · 26/08/2020 04:57

The problem with Boris is that he says he is guided by the science but then we know that the government selectively quotes from studies etc and muzzles their advisers if they do not take the line. No one has heard van tam making any announcements since he took his "apply to all " stance have they.

They will go on and on about bubbles limiting transmission when evidence is building about transmission from older children, the who is changing it's advice and other countries are increasing use of masks as cases rise. I find it ironic that people who wanted to take back control from a distance authority are now moaning about Scotland doing the same.

Funny how talkboards work, isn't it? It's almost like there are thousands of posters, all with differing opinions.

A good leader is willing and able to make sometimes unpopular decisions.

There's no requirement for those masks in the rules. You don't need to spend anywhere near as much as that. You can get a reusable washable one for about £3 online. The disposable surgical masks offer the wearer better protection but they're not compulsory. Also, other posters have already said that masks are available at food banks.

I don't think it's posters flipping their minds.

It's posters with opposing views expressing them.

There will always be people with strong opinions in both sides.

But irrelevant of that he should have been making decisive decisions from the beginning and announcing them with his rationale.

People may or may not like them. But this blustering and indecisiveness makes it worse
