Someone on here said this was exactly what would happen a week before they went back.

@BadTattoosAndSmellLikeBooze

Who pays for the masks? They are not cheap, and if you use them probably you will go through several a day.

Parents will have to buy them like they buy other essential items for their children.

Some parents barely provide a pen never mind anything else! Which is sad Sad

My son would not cope with a mask
I'm sure Scotland have only said masks whilst walking in the corridors and not during the lesson so hopefully mask wearing would only be in very short spells. Although I'm dubious how effective a mask is that is constantly taken on and off again Confused

Treesofwood · 25/08/2020 19:37

It's like people crying out "Lock us down Boris!" Ugh, makes me sick.
The people want it, he reacts to the people. This world is going crazy. And we have people like him in charge.

itsgettingweird · 25/08/2020 19:51

@Barbie222

The tactic is really weakening his position as PM though. Leaders need to lead with their own good ideas. Now, this is Nicola's good idea, and nobody seems to have a problem with it.

Off topic but he has also been massively tone deaf over the Proms too.

He's tone deaf to the needs of most of the country full stop.
itsgettingweird · 25/08/2020 20:00

I'm sure schools in areas where they require masks would get good community support.

My local secondary is in the middle of a really poor socio economic area. Kids who live in 2/3 bed houses which are families of 6. No tech etc. Then the other half of school population are bussed in from MC villages in surrounding area.

I'd be more than happy to buy some multipacks of masks and donate them if I felt it would help lower risk and keep schools open longer to improve the chances of these kids who really need school for education.

SmileEachDay · 25/08/2020 20:09

One of the large MATs is buying masks for all staff and students.

They’ve decided they can’t wait for the government to make any sensible decisions. They’re also hiring additional space near some schools to allow for smaller groups.

latticechaos · 25/08/2020 20:21

@Rudolphian

Where Nicola goes Boris follows.

Sounds like a great slogan. This government seem to favour them.

Slogans can only be Three Words Long.

Boris follows Nicola

itsgettingweird · 25/08/2020 20:44

Lattice!

We could have

Control the plebs
Copy Nic

mrshoho · 25/08/2020 20:54

I think it's just been announced that's masks will be worn in English schools too.

Sidewinder30 · 25/08/2020 20:56

No way... Boris is going to U-turn? I find that hard to believe.

latticechaos · 25/08/2020 20:58

[Hmm] classic fudge, masks are no longer NOT allowed but neither are they required. So passing the buck to head teachers.

Read some savage comments from Tory back benchers opposed to masks in schools.

Tumbleweed101 · 25/08/2020 21:03

I'm against them being worn in lessons. I think they'll be too distracting, especially for the poor kids who need glasses. I can barely tolerate them while wearing glasses as still not found one that doesn't stop them misting up for a dash around the shops but at least that's my choice to go.

I'd be more accepting about them in use in corridors and communal areas or an odd lesson if a teacher is vulnerable. I think they have limited benefit in that environment as I don't believe children will use them properly or social distance anyway and the disruptive children will have yet another means to disrupt the class by making the teacher argue about mask wearing.

frasersmummy · 25/08/2020 21:08

Nicola Sturgeon is just out to cause trouble and score political points no matter how many times she says she is not playing politics..

She has waited this long to introduce masks in schools .. why?? just to force Boris's hand and so she can say she was there first

She needs reigning in!

Bourbonbiccy · 25/08/2020 21:10

This government doing a U-Turn, who would have though.

It's only going to be in corridors and travel to school.

hellooooooooooo · 25/08/2020 21:16

DDs independent secondary school has already said they will have to wear masks in corridors etc when they come back.

manicinsomniac · 25/08/2020 21:16

Where has that been announced mrshoho ? I can't see it on BBC. Secondary only or all? Just in corridors etc?

I was definitely expecting that so I've just spent a fortune on plain masks on eBay. We have loads but all patterned, fashion type ones (stars, spots, quotes etc) and my head has said that anybody can wear a mask wherever they like (nobody has to) but it must be one plain colour - including staff. And I'm not organised enough to do much washing during the week. Grrrr! I can see her point though, they could easily become the next big fashion accessory.

manicinsomniac · 25/08/2020 21:17

Tumbleweed I don't think there's any suggestion of them having to be worn in lessons.

mrshoho · 25/08/2020 21:23

news.sky.com/uk

it's a fumble as usual

manicinsomniac · 25/08/2020 21:24

Thanks

CKBJ · 25/08/2020 21:26

A sensible move from the England Government. Following Scotland’s lead yet again. Does Boris actually have the ability to make a decision himself and actually lead for a change?

Sky news breaking the story but doesn’t actually say if it’s ALL schools in “lockdown” areas or Secondary schools and whether it’s just moving around or all the time.

midsomermurderess · 25/08/2020 21:30

The government isn't clever enough to use 'nudge'.

mrshoho · 25/08/2020 21:32

It's the usual clear as mud that we've come to expect. Why can't the government just be clear and decisive.

From what I read they will be compulsory in areas with stricter local measures.

For all other areas of the country the Head Teachers can decide but the government is removing its advice that they are not required in schools from the school guidance issued.

midsomermurderess · 25/08/2020 21:32

Who should the a First Minister be reigned in by? And as for scoring points, the Govt at Westminster is scoring all its own goals very well by itself. No help needed.

mrshoho · 25/08/2020 21:35

Yes at least Nicola can make a decision and deliver an explanation that is clear so people can at least get on with it knowing where they stand.
This latest update from Boris just causes more of a headache for schools.

GailWeathers9 · 25/08/2020 21:42

@Nellodee

In Heseltine's words: Boris Johnson is a politician who waits to see the way the crowd is running and then dashes in front shouting "Follow me!".
So true!
HeresMe · 25/08/2020 21:42

Boris follows Nicola*

Except multiple times its gone other way but let's big up Nicola.
