The majority of photographs being used by the bbc in articles relating to schools reopening are starting to irritate me. The attached pics are all from the BBC news website, most are the headline photo, showing at most 6 children in a class, the 2nd image, also from their website but specifically in relation to an article about worries of lack of social distancing, shows the reality. Most classes at my dcs school will have 34 children.

I am all for schools reopening, I am a teaching assistant and have 3 of my own children, I am more than happy for both my children and myself to be going back, but I do think this imagery isn't truthfully reflecting the reality of what classrooms will be like.

I have logged my complaint to the bbc. It is ridiculous.

The school that they went to visit the day before EYFS, year one and year six were returning to school on BBC Breakfast was gloriously spacious and modern. Everything was wooden. A table each per child and plenty of equipment so they didn't have to share.

I complained this morning about the app.

It is a disgrace. They did the same in Scotland. Chose some country school with hardly any children. One per table.
In my class there are 31 children all together and nothing like this!! I feel annoyed.

@minicat

Where are they going to get more photos from, though?

Have all their stock photos of schools pre-Covid gone missing?! Surely they can just use one of those.

@CKBJ

Why don’t you all email the BBC stating your complaint that the photos used are not an accurate representation. If you select yes to do you want a reply they need to respond-even if it’s a standard reply. More people do this maybe the message will get through!

Thanks for this. I have just complained. Absolutely disgusted at the deliberate misrepresentation.

The photos are probably from bleeding Denmark. Remember earlier this summer when the BBC and many MNers were falling over themselves in admiration of how "orderly" and "peaceful" the back to school process had been there?

Yeah... I'm a TA as well, and my experience, even in the lockdown with limited pupil numbers, looked far more chaotic than this. Good luck to us all! 🤞

I completely agree, the pictures used in the media give unrealistic expectations of what schools will be like. The last thing schools need is complaints from parents based on images they've seen and what they think the school should be like.

Images like itsgettingweird posted are much better. A full class of happy, engaged children sat in rows with no masks. This is the guidance, if the government think this is what's needed for safety they should make sure everyone knows what it looks like.

It's doing my head in...To add to the many other lies, untruths and spin. Masks and gloves my arse.

Maybe they should use this one from Thailand and see if parents notice!

The BBC are using a different photo in their article about Boris saying schools are safe and it is vitally important children are in class.

Report
ineedaholidaynow · 24/08/2020 00:02

Still not showing that children will be sitting in rows close together.

I think if they can do it in Asia, socially distance kids and masks etc then they can do it here! But unfortunately I do see a lot of schools going for the ‘oh well, can’t get the social distancing’ and just not really getting it. If the guidelines had said maximum 10 in a classroom then that would be more like it.

Yanbu - this annoys me too

No shortage of photos showing pre Covid schools. (I get that these may not be royalty free but I'm sure there's similar stock photos)
