The majority of photographs being used by the bbc in articles relating to schools reopening are starting to irritate me. The attached pics are all from the BBC news website, most are the headline photo, showing at most 6 children in a class, the 2nd image, also from their website but specifically in relation to an article about worries of lack of social distancing, shows the reality. Most classes at my dcs school will have 34 children.

I am all for schools reopening, I am a teaching assistant and have 3 of my own children, I am more than happy for both my children and myself to be going back, but I do think this imagery isn't truthfully reflecting the reality of what classrooms will be like.

My daughters class has 36 kids in. I've been in her room when the class is in, there's barely room to move

noblegiraffe · 26/08/2020 00:07

So you agree it’s propaganda rather than honest reporting, FrenchItalian.

BigChocFrenzy · 26/08/2020 02:17

The risk to children is tiny, but the BBC should just explain that, not in effect lie about SD

Flagsfiend · 26/08/2020 08:09

@FrenchItalian

It’s about managing needlessly anxious parents *@Flagsfiend*. Parents are not medical or scientific evidence and images being broadcast of non socially distanced classrooms would cause unnecessary worry and anxiety about sending DC in to school.

In reality there is very little risk to DC or parents and it is absolutely right that the government and BBC are focusing on relaying this message rather than giving a false view of the level of danger by pandering to anxious parents.

But any anxious parents would realise after their child has been at school for 1 day that they aren't in a class of 6. Then either they will complain to the school that they think the guidelines aren't being followed or stop sending their child in. Wouldn't it be more sensible to show classrooms that are full and following the guidelines so that parents know what to expect? The government say the guidance makes schools safe, why hide what it looks like?

From another thread FrenchItalian is a troll who is now banned.

It's so blatant it's embarrassing.

Can I ask are there many English schools back already? I'm in London and we're not back til next week. I thought it was the same for all English schools. I know NI and Scotland have different holidays.

SnapeSnapeSeverusSnape · 28/08/2020 11:34

I know schools in Leicester are back, they go back a week earlier and then have two weeks in October instead, not sure if that happens elsewhere too. I'm in N.Yorkshire, not back until 7th September here.

Thanks Snape. I never knew that about Leicester. Two weeks in October sounds good.

Elliasnore · 30/08/2020 09:21

So they were using a socially distanced image on bbc website this morning, that has been changed in the last few minutes to show the reality. Maybe they have finally realised.

motherrunner · 30/08/2020 09:29

@Elliasnore I noticed that - hope it continues!

netflixismysidehustle · 30/08/2020 16:14

Don't think they've changed their photo policy
