Just curious if this has happened to anyone? And if so did you go on to have Covid19?

What was your temp?

Tapiocaisbleurgh Since I don’t ever change my user name and have been on here for years, it’s you that’s lazy not doing any research before posting, otherwise you’d know I’m not a journalist

Infrared thermometers are very unreliable.

BingeOnChocolate · 23/08/2020 07:07

Not happened to me but I was looking to book a Chinese restaurant yesterday and it said about they do temp checks on all guests. If one person is above 38 the whole booking is cancelled.

minnieok · 23/08/2020 07:10

Not been turned away but the reading said I was hypothermic! There was rather cold wind. They are not accurate and the pub has abandoned theirs due to inaccurate information

WendyHoused · 23/08/2020 07:11

Given the hot flushes I’m having, I daren’t risk it!

Wecandothis99 · 23/08/2020 07:11

When someone automatically assumes journo or troll it really says a lot about that person. So sad!

OP I've wondered this, I weirdly get nervous as I'm walking in to have it done like I've done something wrong. Like going through the scanner at an airport! Smile

LightAsTheBreeze · 23/08/2020 07:16

@Tapiocaisbleurgh

And what paper will we find your lazy journo article in?Hmm
This OP has been here years, I recognise the name from loads of threads

On the TV the other day, can't remember when, one of the doctors said that the menopause could affect temperature, not sure how true this is.

KitKatastrophe · 23/08/2020 07:18

I haven't had my temp taken at a restaurant or anywhere else. The only place I know of which was taking temperature was theme parks.

Friendsoftheearth · 23/08/2020 07:23

I have been to several restaurants and never been asked to this!

I might have a test if I have a temp for new reason, in case I had covid and was infectious without knowing it.

Deathraystare · 23/08/2020 07:24

I have been worried about this too. I don't get flushes but I do sweat a lot on my forehead at times.

I was really worried when I was at Victoria Coach Station. Would they let me on the coach? I kept putting my cold water bottle on my forehead! Anyway I managed to get on the coach.

ivykaty44 · 23/08/2020 07:25

Do hot flushes change your core temperature though?

I recognise this op from many threads, going back years. You, on the other hand, have recently had a name change by the looks of it.

Op, I’ve also heard that the thermometers aren’t very accurate. Ive eaten out loads recently and no where was checking temperatures. Just asked me to leave my email address in case they need to contact me.

Malaya · 23/08/2020 07:30

@ivykaty44

Possibly but it’s more likely the thermometer was inaccurate rather than you were hot
carolebaskinfedhimtothetigers · 23/08/2020 07:49

I have to take mine every tine I go to the gym, we sometimes do it again after a sweaty class to see if they've changed but they are always the same as when we go in so even if you are feeling hot/sweaty that doesn't mean it will show a high temp!
In answer to your question OP no mine has always been an ok temperature, what was yours as I know some don't let anyone over 37 degrees in but my DSis works in a cafe home and anything up to 37.8 is deemed ok there. Do you have anyway of checking it again now?

carolebaskinfedhimtothetigers · 23/08/2020 07:50

*care home

Tomatoesneedtogrow · 23/08/2020 07:50

my dd went to a theme park with a group of friends and i was concerned if one of them had a temperature.
a meal wouldnt be much of a big deal to be turned away from tbh

Tomatoesneedtogrow · 23/08/2020 07:50

work places, abroad at least, take your temperature on entry.

TheTeenageYears · 23/08/2020 07:53

@LightAsTheBreeze I wouldn't be at all surprised if menopause caused temp spikes. Before DD started her periods she used to get a spiking temp and the school nurse said it can happen pre period so wouldn't surprise me if it can happen at menopause too.

DilloDaf · 23/08/2020 07:58

Do hot flushes change your core temperature though?

Unless the restaurant staff insert a thermometer into a body orifice they can't check the core temp, just the skin surface.
People can be very ill, with a high core temperature but skin surface stays cool so IMHO it's a pointless exercise checking with an infra red thermometer.

MaveyWavey · 23/08/2020 08:04

I went for a dentist appt last week - had my temperature checked and it was 35.6! So I agree with those who say that thermal thermometers don’t work

SockYarn · 23/08/2020 08:15

No restaurants around here are doing this.

The theme park I went to said they would let you move tickets to a different day if this happened, I’d imagine most would. Inconvenient though!!

I’ve not had it at any restaurants, but have at my daughter’s swimming and in a nail place. Think it’s a pointless exercise but an easy thing for places to do and advertise how ‘safe’ they are making it, and it may reassure people who otherwise would stay at home.

I overheard a lady coming in to the nail salon say ‘there’s no point taking my temperature, I’ve just been diagnosed with cancer so my temperature is always higher than normal’. No idea if this is true? I didn’t see if they took her temperature and it was fine, or they just let her in regardless but it did strike me as fairly pointless if you could talk your way out of it!

Fortyfifty · 23/08/2020 08:18

I've known of two different teens turned away from dental appointments with one high reading out of two. They went on to have negative tests.
