Just curious if this has happened to anyone? And if so did you go on to have Covid19?

I had a forehead temp taken on the way into physio. She exclaimed that I was really hot. Took my ear temp and it was absolutely fine.

notangelinajolie · 23/08/2020 08:22

My hairdresser does temperatures.

Wtfdidwedo · 23/08/2020 08:23

The Apple store took my mother's temperature and it read 34 degrees. The woman said 'ooh you're a bit cold.' I don't think she realised that she would be hypothermic if the reading was accurate Grin

ZolaGrey · 23/08/2020 08:24

I went to a cafe in Glastonbury a couple of days ago and it was the first time anyone had asked to check. It was sunny, we'd been schlepping around a lot, it was humid.

My temp was (apparently) 34.5....

middleager · 23/08/2020 08:25

What was your temperature?

We bought a trigger style thermometer with excellent reviews.

It's inaccurate, can give different readings each time depending on where you point it and where you are standing. My forehead read about 1 degree differently to the side of the neck.

Our standard thermometer you pop in our mouth is far more reliable.

BeyondMyWits · 23/08/2020 08:25

DD always reads high in ear (38.3+) but is fine on a forehead reading 36.8ish.

CKBJ · 23/08/2020 08:27

Op you never say d what your temp was?

Similar happened to me at dentist during the hot weather. Dentist running late I had to sit in car for 30mins. Took temp and it was 37.5 comment was “oh that a bit high I expect it’s because you’ve sat in a hot car”. Glad a bit of common sense was used.

middleager · 23/08/2020 08:30

@Tomatoesneedtogrow

my dd went to a theme park with a group of friends and i was concerned if one of them had a temperature. a meal wouldnt be much of a big deal to be turned away from tbh
My son is off to a theme park with his friend. The other family are driving, it's an hour away and I'm at work if he doesn't get in!

We also checked into a hotel three hours' drive away where our twmperatures were checked. It was a blazing hot day and we"d all been packed in a car for three hours.
We didn't know they were testing, so it would make me think in the future about long journeys.

ivykaty44 · 23/08/2020 08:30

I haven't been turned away from anywhere after having my temperature taken. I had temperature taken entering a beer garden and also another outside event for eating.

I was literally curious as to whether people had been turned away and then gone on to develop symptoms etc. It was a Sunday morning thought and I knew mums net would have a few various answers for me, as always - thanks for the replies

My daughter's temp seems to rest at 37.3 using the forehead infrared thermometers. I'm worried she won't be let in her gymnastics class when it starts back up again.

lookatmememe · 23/08/2020 08:39

I was quite shocked when I went to a local pub to collect a pre ordered takeaway. As loads of people at the bar with no masks and all sitting or standing close to each other. ( I've been home for months ) I was the only one in a mask as I walked through. I'm probably being a bit dippy as obviously you can't drink with a mask on. But I thought people collecting take outs and waiting to be seated at tables would be masked up.

PurpleFlower1983 · 23/08/2020 08:39

We had ours taken at The Ivy the other day, it was very clever, mounted on the wall and able to do whole groups at a time.

JinglingHellsBells · 23/08/2020 08:39

We had our temp taken on entering a hotel in the UK a few weeks ago.

I suspect that if someone's is high they would re-test and then perhaps ask you to complete a questionnaire before turning someone away.

lookatmememe · 23/08/2020 08:40

Whoops hit send too quick. Not a thermometer in site . So no checks at all .

JinglingHellsBells · 23/08/2020 08:40

That's terrible.

None of the local pubs near me are allowing standing- it's seated only and you order then sit down with an in-out one ways sytsem.

BunsyGirl · 23/08/2020 08:41

DS2 was nearly refused entry to a restaurant. We had been waiting in a queue outside the restaurant for a long time and he was wearing headphones (as he is sensitive to noise). His temp reading was 38.3. We took them off for a few minutes and it went down to 36.2!

Newgirls · 23/08/2020 08:42

I’ve had it checked at a chain restaurant and a pub. It is very quick. No idea how accurate

bestbefore · 23/08/2020 08:45

They were testing everyone before going into the Apple store at Bluewater the other day - well a rather burly looking huge chap was. I - being perimenopausal and slightly hot having worn a mask for a long time - was a bit worried but I was deemed ok and allowed to enter. What a palaver!

sirfredfredgeorge · 23/08/2020 08:49

It'll be a perfect excuse if you're running late for a date, as you won't be able to run or even "brisk walk" to get to the restaurant as then you'll be turned away because aerobic exercise does increase your temperature.

It could be exclusionary to deny access due to temperature taking, but so far I've only ever seen it as theatre rather than any actual decisions being made.

Jrobhatch29 · 23/08/2020 08:49

Not a restaurant but I was turned away from mine and my daughters 8 week post partum check at the doctors because my temp was too high. I was wearing a mask and carrying a baby in a heat wave.

That’s a normal temperature though?
SoVeryLost · 23/08/2020 08:53

@GirlCalledJames

Infrared thermometers are very unreliable.
Incorrect. Although most people don’t realise you need to adjust what is a fever based on where you take the temperature.
CouldBeOuting · 23/08/2020 08:54

I haven’t been to any restaurants etc. but I have been to the hairdressers and they checked my temperature with an infrared forehead thermometer - it was 36.4.

Now, I’ve been taking my temp every single day since lockdown started with a tympanic thermometer. (I do this because my school was still open and I wanted to monitor my health). The lowest I’ve been on that thermometer is 37.5 and it has been up to 37.8. DH always registers between 36.5 and 36.8 so I’m guessing this menopausal old girl “runs hot” and forehead thermometers give a lower reading.

Incidentally I also have weekly tests (since May) and always negative.

TheDogsMother · 23/08/2020 08:55

I also had this at the dentist and it measured 37.5. I said this is not a surprise as I have had to wait outside in the blazing sun. I went to the waiting room for 5 minutes, they checked again and it was 36.5.

Naticus · 23/08/2020 09:04

My pondering is my temp is consistently on the lower side (around 36°) I check with an oral thermometer and it's been the same whenever I've had it checked as an inpatient... that's just my "normal".
So if it goes above that to what is considered normal, have I got a temperature? 🤔
