Just curious if this has happened to anyone? And if so did you go on to have Covid19?

@Naticus

No. Your core temp is just slightly lower. My mother had a low core temp.

So. We have a core temp for a reason. We are hot blooded

So when we get sick. Our body raises the temperature to kill off the bacteria. It makes it hotter and hotter until it dies. Our bodies are amazing at fighting its own battles!

Some people have asked about menopause. Whilst you get hotter. It doesn't tend to raise your core. Which is what a thermometer is reader. The reason your core temp rises before you start your periods is a whole host of reasons. Which I could get into. But it's basically the hormone levels RISING. In menopause. The hormone levels are DECREASING. So because of that. That's why you start to sweat at the slightest bit of work. Hormones are incredibly complicated. Because of the hormones we have 3000x3000 different ways they can Interact. Even the worlds supercomputer couldn't work it out. Hence why endocrinology is quite a lot of a guessing game.

Hope that helps some.

If your running. Your core would slightly become higher. Or core temp. But it wouldn't go over 38. Which is why the temp readings are 38 and over. This is due to the core temp rising enough.

gamerchick · 23/08/2020 10:31

I think the OP already said that her temp was fine and it was just a hypothetical asking if anyone had been turned away

Yes I know but it's handy to know what temps places are using to turn people away.

lowlandLucky · 23/08/2020 10:54

My hot flushes could power the restaurant for the night

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 23/08/2020 11:11

There was a thread on here a while back where the OP was turned away from her hairdresser as her temp was marginally over 37.

PhilCornwall1 · 23/08/2020 11:13

No, but was expecting it yesterday afternoon when we went for a beer. I glanced at the temperature that came up on the gizmo. It was 37.5 (perfectly normal), all I got was a "you're fine" and in we went.

sirfredfredgeorge · 23/08/2020 11:36

If your running. Your core would slightly become higher. Or core temp. But it wouldn't go over 38

It most certainly would, normal range for vigorous exercise is 38-40, and many heat adapted people will be able to sustain higher temperatures.

Happyheartlovelife · 23/08/2020 11:57

@sirfredfredgeorge

Yes. Apologies. That was meant to say it could.

However your bodies blood vessels. Sweet preceptors and of course your skin etc. Should all adjust to keep you from overheating.

Happyheartlovelife · 23/08/2020 11:57

Sweat!

What is going on with my phone!!!

AlrightBabby · 23/08/2020 12:46

I had mine taken outside the hospital the other day, it read 33! She took it twice, I said I'd had the aircon on in the car, she told me I looked ok and to come in 🤷‍♀️

ivykaty44 · 23/08/2020 13:37

so it would seem that it very hit and miss and no many turned away...

Lol at the hypothermia!

Naticus · 23/08/2020 15:33

Thanks @Happyheartlovelife :)

cologne4711 · 23/08/2020 16:52

I've had mine taken at two different hairdressers and for a sports massage. I was told at the physio place that it was 36.5, so that gives me an idea of what mine should be.

I didn't think your core temperature would rise even if you were doing exercise. I tend to walk to the hairdressers so I will make sure I always walk more slowly than usual to avoid my temperature going up at all.

HerRoyalNotness · 23/08/2020 17:03

I took my son to get his wisdom teeth out and he measured 100F. They took it several times with 2 different thermometers. They said come back in 2 weeks and monitor him. We got home, took his temp again and it was 97.3F. Next two days it didn’t go above 98.

Last week took him to the hairdresser and again it was 100. She waited a little and it went down to 99.1, so they did his hair.

No clue what’s going on there.

Kashtan · 23/08/2020 17:04

I had one at the dentist and my temperature was allegedly 35.4! The receptionist was happy, but clearly that isn’t my normal temp ( at the start of the outbreakI was taking it daily with an old fashioned Under tongue one and it was consistently just under 37.

Hoggleludo · 23/08/2020 17:24

@ivykaty44. The problem is the forehead thermometers is so open to interpretation.

Unless you do it at the exact Center of the forehead at the exact distance away. The result will be so different.

That’s the issue

Ear thermometer have less likely to have an inaccurate reading.

PhilCornwall1 · 23/08/2020 18:26

At the bar we've been going to, they are taking it on your wrist. They've said that's more accurate. Who knew. 🤷‍♂️

WrongKindOfFace · 23/08/2020 18:33

Surely the infrared forehead thermometers are missing lots of people who actually have a fever? Mine was measured the other day at 35 which is blatantly wrong. So I could have a fever and be waved through as I’m still measuring under 37.8. They may as well point a hairdryer at you for the use that it is.

Toddlerteaplease · 23/08/2020 18:37

I went for a massage, and my temperature was apparently. 33.4 oC, the therapist said, that's fine! I said "err no it isn't" it was clearly a false reading. (I'm a nurse) but he didn't recheck it.

gamerchick · 23/08/2020 18:47

The problem with those infrared things is that people like have a play with them and point them at really hot things. Then they chuck a wobbler and don't work right after they've been pointed at something too hot that it can't read it.

No idea why though, just IME.

LuluJo1020 · 23/08/2020 18:47

The last time I had a temperature was when I was 6, had flu and it hit 104°. Since then I just don't get them even when I've got a raging kidney infection and I'm peeing lucozade so unless Covid somehow resets my internal thermometer I won't be getting a temperature as a symptom.

Yes it's weird. It's a family thing, loads of us just don't get temperatures. No one ever believes us until we have to fight for antibiotics

Thanksitsgotpockets · 23/08/2020 19:30

My temperature runs low do I can feel feverish without having a high temperature..
I had flu over Christmas and was concerned that my temperature wasn't raising enough to fight it effectively.

whatnametopick · 23/08/2020 20:43

I got ejected from the doctors with an ear reading of 37.9. Test was negative but I have an inflammatory condition and thyroid problem witch increase my temperature. So I grit my teeth and hope for the best whenever I get a temp check now.

LouiseNW · 23/08/2020 20:44

ivykaty44

Do hot flushes change your core temperature though?

No, so I was told by GP.

HermioneWeasley · 23/08/2020 20:47

I had one temperature reading say I was 31C - I pointed out I’d be dead if it were accurate!
