Woud you go to the cinema yet?

DH has just announced he and DS are going to the cinema to see the movie Tenet.

I'm unhappy about it to be honest. Last week DH was lecturing DS about not going inside pubs and now he does this. Mixed messages!

DH has a 90+ year old father he visits and for that reason we've been very cautious so far.

I desperately want to see Tenet and would love to see it on the big screen. I am not going. It’s just not worth the risk for me given that everyone in our household has at least one complicating risk factor.

We really love movies so we spent our holiday fund on nice theater seating to enhance our at home experience.

@latticechaos that’s exactly right - most people just think all air con = the same air recirculated but that’s not the case at all for modern cinemas.

@MarcelineMissouri

I have a vested interest in this as dh works for a cinema chain.

Re air conditioning in cinemas. Firstly, they are not small enclosed spaces - they are huge rooms with a lot of air in them. Secondly, modern Uk cinemas (can’t speak for the small older independents) are built with roof top air conditioning units. This is nothing like what most people imagine when they think of air conditioning which is the split units that recycle the same air. The units the cinemas have pull in continuous fresh air. I can’t speak for the other major chains but dh units are set at 10 litres of fresh air per second per person (as in how many people the screen could hold if it was full) so it is basically a continuous supply of full fresh air from outside, not what most people believe they’re getting.

Obviously no one can tell you any place is completely safe because nowhere is, but I do genuinely believe that cinemas are not nearly as bad as you might think. In addition they have set their booking systems up to block off all the seats around you, and in any event, certainly at the moment they’re so quiet that sitting well away from people is very easy. There is hand sanitizer everywhere, queuing and one way systems and the staff are being extremely conscientious about new cleaning routines.

Cinemas are well aware of how many people will feel about returning at the moment and they are trying so hard with all the procedures they have in place. There are some great films still coming out this year (hopefully!), I am very excited for Tenet, Wonder Woman and Bond.

I hope that is somewhat reassuring and may encourage people who are not quite sure to give it a go. I personally love the cinema (independent of dh job!!) and am very glad to be back but they do have a battle ahead of them for sure.

Really glad to read this, as I was concerned about air con. Nothing else, just that. And now I'm not!
