DH has just announced he and DS are going to the cinema to see the movie Tenet.

I'm unhappy about it to be honest. Last week DH was lecturing DS about not going inside pubs and now he does this. Mixed messages!

DH has a 90+ year old father he visits and for that reason we've been very cautious so far.

@MarcelineMissouri Can I ask a question about seating? When I booked my tickets a few weeks back, there were no seats blocked off on the online booking system and when I looked at my local Odeon recently,it was the same. I presumed they'd have seats taped off/unavailable on the booking system so you couldn't sit next to random people. Am I missing something? Are they not doing that at the moment because they're so quiet? Just wondering if you had any inside knowledge!

MarcelineMissouri · 23/08/2020 10:14

Oh just a couple of other points about the ‘relative’ safety of cinemas, firstly you are all sat facing forward rather than face to face, secondly there has obviously been a lot of research on singing/shouting etc and how this forced exhalation contributes to the spread - in cinemas you are not even supposed to be talking!

MarcelineMissouri · 23/08/2020 10:18

@Layladylay234 Odeon I understand were originally intending to have a staff member in each screen seating people away from each other rather than using allocated seating on booking. I think they’ve stopped that now though and have gone back to online seating choices. But that may well have been what was happening a few weeks back! For dh chain their system is set to block off the seats in front and behind you and 2 seats either side. I think most chains are now following this pattern.

savetti · 23/08/2020 10:23

Going this week
Would have gone earlier, but no new movies.
I really haven’t been out much and I’m quite anxious, but the cinema doesn’t worry me for some reason. I can see how social distancing can be done

Divoc2020 · 23/08/2020 21:14

Thanks @MarcelineMissouri - that is reassuring to hear!

DH has now decided he will see his DF first and go to the cinema the week after, so that if he and DS catch anything it will only be me they infect! Hmm

No. There's fuck all on and I'm not paying the cost of their tickets to sit being tutted at for not being able to wear a facemask.

shivbo2014 · 23/08/2020 21:22

Went today only me dd and another family in there. Didn't wear mask watching film as we were eating/drinking.

wanderings · 25/08/2020 16:01

Not while muzzles are mandatory. That's a matter of principle. I'm rarely visiting shops for the same reason. As soon as the requirement changes to "strongly recommended", I'll gladly wear a mask and go! Smile But I am dead against it being mandated in law.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 25/08/2020 16:04

No - not because I’m worried about catching Covid but because I expect the whole experience is now rather depressing and miserable

Climbingallthetrees · 25/08/2020 16:05

I wouldn’t. People take off their masks and then sit in a closed room for two hours, if someone there has coronavirus there is a reasonable chance of it circulating. But I am at the very cautious end, only go out to eat at outside tables etc.

SlipperyLizard · 25/08/2020 16:13

Nope, purely because there’s nothing on that I would pay to watch while wearing a face mask. I love the cinema, no qualms about safety, but wearing a face mask would ruin what should be a fun bit of escapism.

DidSheReallySayThat20 · 25/08/2020 16:26

Yes. Have done the kids one.
Allocated seats.. Alrho everyone sat wherever. And most took masks off. No staff checking.

Would I go again.. Yes. Because if I felt someone was too close I'd move.

We need normality.

YgritteSnow · 25/08/2020 17:20

We went last week. It was fine. No one sitting near us. We took masks off to eat popcorn and drink etc. We had a great time. Was lovely to back.

Spodge · 25/08/2020 17:54

I would if I didn't have to wear a mask.

MarcelineMissouri · 25/08/2020 18:39

Our tickets are booked for TENET tomorrow in IMAX. I cannot wait.

I am not a lover of masks either but 1. You can remove it to eat and drink which I spend a good part of the film doing and 2. I think it will feel very different to other experiences of mask wearing as you are sat still and not trying to talk to anyone. I’m anticipating finding it much easier and quicker to forget that I’m wearing it compared to when you’re moving around and trying to have conversations.

southeastdweller · 25/08/2020 21:11

You don't have to wear one when you're sitting down, regardless of whether you're eating and drinking. I'm going twice at the weekend, I've had so much robbed of me for this phoney war and life's for living.

girlicorne · 25/08/2020 21:16

I would I don’t have a problem with it at all.

ParisOnWheels · 25/08/2020 21:18

Not where I live now because the wheelchair spaces are right at the front next to the steps up and everyone walks up them. If I still lived where I used to (wheelchair space at the back using a different door) I would.

Well, if there was anything decent on. Not sure I’m missing anything.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 25/08/2020 21:18

We went last week, £9 for the three of us, 9 on the cinema wore masks untim we at down and no one was around us, one way in one way out and bought tickets and snacks online

SpeedofaSloth · 25/08/2020 21:51

Yes, I have been. The seats around our household party were kept clear, everything looked well organised, I felt safe.

MarcelineMissouri · 25/08/2020 21:58

Really glad to hear so many people are having positive experiences on their visits x

savetti · 26/08/2020 19:54

Just been today
Odeon

Absolutely fine
Very few people, seats blocked so not close to anyone
Felt v safe

MarcelineMissouri · 26/08/2020 23:19

Just back from TENET. It was amazing. Definitely needs at least one or possibly two more Viewings so planning on going again at the weekend!

middleager · 26/08/2020 23:29

We have been a few times. Mostly before masks were mandatory.
I didn't go with the others once it was mandatory, but they enjoyed it.
Tickets were just £5 then.

Not sure if I'll join them for Tenet as sick of glasses steaming. No longer going to salon for same reason rather than fear of transmission.

latticechaos · 26/08/2020 23:31

I would have said no but reading the post from @MarcelineMissouri makes me reconsider perhaps. I am concerned about Aircon but I am aware not all Aircon is created equal!
