Has there been one? I thought the situation was being reviewed today but I can't find any info anywhere except Oldham is on the brink of full lockdown but the Mayor thinks it's not necessary. I'm right on the outskirts of GM and hoping for news as cases have risen in general but schools go back in less than 2 weeks.

Interesting

@Frazzled2207

Andy Burnham has tweeted that there will be an announcement of some sort toda. I think they have a meeting late on Thursday but now have Learnt that late night announcements aren’t the best idea.

I’m in stockport and am so pissed off about the no going into houses rule esp as our cases are much lower than many other places where you can. So many people I know rely on grandparents to pick up after school etc. Many I know are going to have to do it anyway.

Has he? I can’t see a tweet saying this?
Frazzled2207 · 21/08/2020 09:38

he has replied to tweets saying this

igot20joe · 21/08/2020 10:55

Ah yes, I see it now. Well then, according to him, there should be an update from Gov in the next hour and five minutes!

SueEllenMishke · 21/08/2020 11:02

Also within Oldham there is the same debate as within Greater Manchester but on a local scale. The high infection rate is concentrated almost entirely in two council wards with only a smattering (but increasing) number of cases elsewhere. Most local Facebook groups are calling for lockdown in just those 2 areas. The fact that those 2 areas have a high Asian population is leading to such incredible racism - the use of the loaded 'them' and blaming the entire Asian population for the current situation. I have never before seen such overt racism from people I thought better of. I don't blame the authorities for hesitating because I think the potential societal consequences are enormous.

Absolutely this.

However, as someone with an OL postcode living in a ward where cases throughout have been negligible I can understand the frustration......on a personal level a local lockdown will have a huge impact on my mental health and I think it will be catastrophic for lots of local business who have put a lot of effort in to making things safe.
Putting the whole of Oldham back into lockdown is not a good idea for many reasons

igot20joe · 21/08/2020 11:06

Paul Brand, ITV:

NEW: A more localised approach to the Greater Manchester lockdown is expected to be announced imminently.

I’m told Wigan and Rossendale will be removed from the stricter measures imposed last month but Oldham will face a more stringent lockdown.

Willbob · 21/08/2020 11:22

Does anyone know please..... when Leicester locked down did it impact all LE postcodes, is it likely it'll be all OL postcodes?

SueEllenMishke · 21/08/2020 11:26

Does anyone know please..... when Leicester locked down did it impact all LE postcodes, is it likely it'll be all OL postcodes?

I really hope not.

Willbob · 21/08/2020 11:34

@SueEllenMishke me too x

SistemaAddict · 21/08/2020 11:51

There was a map of where the lockdown of Leicester area applied. I don't know how they worked it out though. AB has said previously that many people living in Oldham work outside of Oldham itself so only kicking down Oldham made no sense. It was obvious just from reading threads on here about Eid that rates were likely going to increase as some people weren't prepared to alter their plans especially as they were announced so late at night.

Rossendale and Darwen have been removed from local lockdown

Lissy23 · 21/08/2020 11:54

Any news on Calderdale?

SistemaAddict · 21/08/2020 11:55

Do you have links please? I can't find anything anywhere.

SistemaAddict · 21/08/2020 11:58

Ah just read a sort of update but nothing from the government yet it seems.

MEN: "Oldham to avoid full lockdown, Wigan to come out of Covid measures - and individual neighbourhoods could start being released from next week"

igot20joe · 21/08/2020 11:58

@igot20joe

Rossendale and Darwen have been removed from local lockdown
This has been announced by their MP following a phone call with Matt Hancock.
igot20joe · 21/08/2020 11:59

"Oldham is set to escape a full economic lockdown, the M.E.N. has learned - but will be subject to extra measures around social mixing."

"It is understood people in Oldham will be told not to socialise with other households anywhere, a stricter message than the present rules, which had still allowed people to meet in outside public spaces such as parks and outside pubs and restaurants.

Oldhamers will also be advised only to use public transport for essential travel - largely work and school - while new guidance is set to limit the size of weddings and funerals to just close family and friends."

From the MEN

igot20joe · 21/08/2020 12:00

Why are we reading this from the MEN and from MP's Facebook pages rather than an announcement from the Gov/MH??

SistemaAddict · 21/08/2020 12:02

Because our government is shit.

OP posts:
igot20joe · 21/08/2020 12:03

Wigan also confirmed as coming out of lockdown

Frazzled2207 · 21/08/2020 12:04

@Lissy23 he said other parts of east lands unaffected from easing of restrictions.
This is on ITV.

SistemaAddict · 21/08/2020 12:04

If Oldham residents haven't stuck to the rules so far then what makes anyone in power think they will abide by stricter social rules?

OP posts:
Frazzled2207 · 21/08/2020 12:09

@Bercows
Totally agree.
There is close to zero enforcement of the rules across GM as far as I can tell. What is the point?

Lissy23 · 21/08/2020 12:13

Oh I’m so disappointed. In our large borough of Calderdale which is West Yorks, the majority of cases are in very concentrated areas and my part has had near to zero cases for the past three weeks. Our cases are also dropping dramatically. Is the next review next week? I’m hoping they’ll lift them here before schools return.

Lissy23 · 21/08/2020 12:16

I’m desperate to see my family, but they live 200 miles away, so one of us would have to stay with the other and can’t until these local restrictions are eased in my area.
