If You Could Choose Any Education Option for Sept

I'm getting so confused by what parents actually want to happen with schools right now (I'm not a parent, I'm a teacher). I want to know what home opinions my classes are going to be coming in from in Sept - whether they're likely to be nervous or confident, whether they will want to SD or not, etc.

I know parents aren't one hive mind but the 'loudest voice' seems to keep changing its mind. Or I hear different ones, idk.

I'm sure there used to be a board for polls and surveys but, if I wasn't imagining, I can't find it.

So, if you're up for an unscientific straw poll to help me gauge general feeling, can you post A, B, C, D or E in the thread (you can explain if you like, I don't mind!)
A - I want full time schooling as close to the old normal as is allowed
B - I want full time schooling but with safety measures such as social distancing and masks for all who can and are old enough.
C - I want blended learning (half in the classroom and half online)
D - I want to keep my child at home all the time, home school them and not be penalised (ie, I want my place back when I think it's safe)
E - I think schools should remain closed for most children for now.

A please.
With some allowances, understanding etc for any with health issues themselves or the people they are living with.

Popfan · 14/08/2020 22:56

A

swg1 · 14/08/2020 22:58

B or C but other people should get D if they want.

stayathomer · 14/08/2020 22:58

Id pick D. A obviously if we were not in coronovirus times but it just all seems a bit 'let's hope it wont be us'

DebbieFiderer · 14/08/2020 22:59

A

PicsInRed · 14/08/2020 22:59

A.

Juststopswimming · 14/08/2020 22:59

A

DebbieFiderer · 14/08/2020 22:59

Meant to say, A, but I would accept B

Averyslover · 14/08/2020 23:00

C I say that as a teacher and a parent. A isn’t going to happen with the virus in circulation. I want B but 1100+ students in our school is not going to work safely whatever measures are put in place.

Primary school seems okay but secondary school is going to be a nightmare.

40somethingJBJ · 14/08/2020 23:01

Personally would prefer D at the moment, as have family in the ECV group, but C would be an option.

Backhometothenorth · 14/08/2020 23:03

A

A or B would be preferable but would pick C as I see that as the only sustainable option in the coming months.

manicinsomniac · 14/08/2020 23:05

B, although I'm okay with A personally.

LaurieMarlow · 14/08/2020 23:05

B

MummaPI · 14/08/2020 23:07

D for me, I think we could cope for another 6 months and see how winter pans out. Socially my kids did a lot of Skype calls where they played games and SD outside stuff. I know its not for everyone but for us I would feel more at ease (and I'm a teaching assistant)

Alittleodd · 14/08/2020 23:08

B or C please, Miss. Depending on the age of the students (B for primary, C for secondary)

I actually thought I wanted D for a long time. Or that D should be an option. I'm a qualified teacher and I could confidently home school my child up to the post GCSEs (A levels if he chose from my 5 subjects) and I felt strongly that the fines shouldn't be enforced. But now I'm starting to look at the bigger picture and think maybe that isn't such a great plan, on a society wide level. Just because my son would be OK and his education and MH wouldn't suffer I can't assume this would be the case for all children. So maybe it's worth it for the others?

Tbh the reason I couldn't actually see the nuance was because of the immediate howling of "if you don't like it de register and homeschool" that appears on any thread like this that hints at anything other than "back to normal" (I fully expect several to pop up before posting this, from past experience). My knee jerk reaction to how unbelievably unhelpful, short sighted and childish those posts are most have given my poor overworked subconscious the idea that I must therefore disagree with everything said in that direction.

IncidentsandAccidents · 14/08/2020 23:10

B for secondaries and A for primaries. I'd also like families who were or are shielding to have the option to home school temporarily.

Sailonby · 14/08/2020 23:10

A
and F- I think the 2020 academic year should be repeated

womanaf · 14/08/2020 23:11

Boarding school? 😀

Bohoboo · 14/08/2020 23:11

C secondary school. B primary. My dd10 would be in a smallish class and I think will benefit from being back. Secondary bubble of 250 with no social distancing or masks seems ludicrous to me. Dd13 learnt very well at home during lockdown and think the self driven learning could really compliment smaller classes with focused learning. I would be delighted if this actually happened although I'm not holding my breath!

HaloeVera · 14/08/2020 23:11

C

Trackandtrace · 14/08/2020 23:12

D - child has been on shielded list so vunerable.
Possibly c if numbers are reasonable in area and c allows social distancing in school, but i do think this will be more disruptive to child in question as child struggles with rountine changes and we have a good system with home ed at mo

ineedaholidaynow · 14/08/2020 23:12

C - Secondary. Had really good online teaching last term.

Think it will be necessary to help with SD (so get a bit of B option too), also helps if schools have to close temporarily, as there will be something in place to ensure continuity of education
