If You Could Choose Any Education Option for Sept

I'm getting so confused by what parents actually want to happen with schools right now (I'm not a parent, I'm a teacher). I want to know what home opinions my classes are going to be coming in from in Sept - whether they're likely to be nervous or confident, whether they will want to SD or not, etc.

I know parents aren't one hive mind but the 'loudest voice' seems to keep changing its mind. Or I hear different ones, idk.

I'm sure there used to be a board for polls and surveys but, if I wasn't imagining, I can't find it.

So, if you're up for an unscientific straw poll to help me gauge general feeling, can you post A, B, C, D or E in the thread (you can explain if you like, I don't mind!)
A - I want full time schooling as close to the old normal as is allowed
B - I want full time schooling but with safety measures such as social distancing and masks for all who can and are old enough.
C - I want blended learning (half in the classroom and half online)
D - I want to keep my child at home all the time, home school them and not be penalised (ie, I want my place back when I think it's safe)
E - I think schools should remain closed for most children for now.

A. DC are going into yr8 & yr12.

Alittleodd · 14/08/2020 23:29

Can I vote again but for the parallel universe where schools have been allocated additional funding to facilitate Covid necessitated changes (in terms of technology, sanitation, staffing, training and additional space) and given adequate time to plan how they will be implemented?

No?

AldiAisleofCrap · 14/08/2020 23:31

D

IDSNeighbour · 14/08/2020 23:32

Yes, actually, you're right Lua - I very inaccurately looked at the letter with the largest number of votes and thought no further.

Good thing I don't teach Maths. Or Science. Or Geography ...

C as it stands now. D if cases rise with live lessons so it’s more like the normal class using Teams and groups working together online. Obviously staff would need a lot of training in this and the equipment to do it well but the government should pay for this. They should also provide a laptop for all families on benefits and free wifi. Children on the at risk register and parents who are struggling with work should be given the option to go into school, socially distance and join in their lesson from there.

hiredandsqueak · 14/08/2020 23:33

A for me although dd is in independent specialist school where classes are never bigger than 4 pupils and there are fewer than 30 pupils in total across three sites). In a mainstream secondary I'd probably want C.

Juanmorebeer · 14/08/2020 23:33

A but would accept B

latticechaos · 14/08/2020 23:33

C first preference, don't really want D but willing to do it. B I can deal with I guess.

Probably would prefer E to A!

I also just want to say I worry for teachers and I think your lack of PPE is shocking.

Beebityboo · 14/08/2020 23:34

I'm disabled so D. I'd probably cry with relief if they did a u turn on fines and prosecution for the clinically vulnerable (and might even get a proper night's sleep!)

Underhisi · 14/08/2020 23:35

B
Ds was in throughout lockdown as were most of his school. They had B although no social distancing within each class and will be continuing in the same way in September and I am happy with that. No masks as not appropriate in classrooms of children with severe sn.

Blended learning is impossible for children with his needs

blue25 · 14/08/2020 23:36

D or E

Starlightstarbright1 · 14/08/2020 23:38

A but B is ok - I would like them to remove the fines though .

They certainly can’t use the mantra every day matters now

MayFayre · 14/08/2020 23:38

A

dangerrabbit · 14/08/2020 23:38

A

frozendaisy · 14/08/2020 23:38

C for the time being.

If we fall ill as parents we are screwed.

Lockdownfatigue · 14/08/2020 23:39

E ideally
Then D

Would accept C

Don’t think B is possible
Will keep mine home if it’s A

BunsyGirl · 14/08/2020 23:40

A

MayFayre · 14/08/2020 23:40

@ineedaholidaynow

Spied · 14/08/2020 23:41

B

PinkFondantFancy · 14/08/2020 23:43

A with bells on

latticechaos · 14/08/2020 23:43

If we fall ill as parents we are screwed

This worries me too Sad

Cheesecake53 · 14/08/2020 23:47

C or B please

Heathershimmer95 · 14/08/2020 23:53

B or C. D allowed for those who need it.

Heathershimmer95 · 14/08/2020 23:55

IMO I think B and C go hand in hand unless schools are given more space for lessons.

HandsOffMyRights · 14/08/2020 23:58

A but B fine.
