If You Could Choose Any Education Option for Sept

I'm getting so confused by what parents actually want to happen with schools right now (I'm not a parent, I'm a teacher). I want to know what home opinions my classes are going to be coming in from in Sept - whether they're likely to be nervous or confident, whether they will want to SD or not, etc.

I know parents aren't one hive mind but the 'loudest voice' seems to keep changing its mind. Or I hear different ones, idk.

I'm sure there used to be a board for polls and surveys but, if I wasn't imagining, I can't find it.

So, if you're up for an unscientific straw poll to help me gauge general feeling, can you post A, B, C, D or E in the thread (you can explain if you like, I don't mind!)
A - I want full time schooling as close to the old normal as is allowed
B - I want full time schooling but with safety measures such as social distancing and masks for all who can and are old enough.
C - I want blended learning (half in the classroom and half online)
D - I want to keep my child at home all the time, home school them and not be penalised (ie, I want my place back when I think it's safe)
E - I think schools should remain closed for most children for now.

B that takes extra space and staff

So A with some PPE

notasillysausage · 15/08/2020 07:19

A

Treaclepie19 · 15/08/2020 07:20

C. I know he needs to be back in and around other children but would like to limit how long for.

Fieldofgreycorn · 15/08/2020 07:25

I Guess most people are going to want A or B as they have to work. Or go back to work at some point soon.

Attictroll · 15/08/2020 07:25

Ideally A but C in the real world,
I am still very angry about England opening for Some years and not being more sensible And creative like Wales who had the “all children back but only a 3rd in school at once rule”
Why not b- too difficult to control primary with masks/ maybe secondary for b

WifeofDarth · 15/08/2020 07:27

C

IncidentsandAccidents · 15/08/2020 07:28

Really interesting thread. What stands out to me is that no-one is voting for E. Despite our differences, we all want to see schools open in some form in September.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 15/08/2020 07:29

A for me. I'm happy for the teachers to wear PPE if they wish to and social distance from the children but I don't want my 7 year old wearing a mask and distancing from his peers.

TimeForLunch · 15/08/2020 07:31

A for sure. I have one in primary and one in secondary. I believe A is sustainable given our very low figures at the moment. Even in hotspots figures are low and additional measures put in place where necessary should stop increases.

Ickabog · 15/08/2020 07:32

B for primary
C for secondary

ginsparkles · 15/08/2020 07:39

C for me. With D for those that want/need it.

ThursdayLastWeek · 15/08/2020 07:39

A

MadeFrom100percentPears · 15/08/2020 07:39

A A A A A

I'm also a teacher, hoping to go back to as normal a situation as possible!

Eyewhisker · 15/08/2020 07:43

A

NowTheDucksAreBarking · 15/08/2020 07:44

Option C as it would have the best chance of minimising outbreaks and not disturbing the kids education.

From a personal point of view, as a teacher, this option would be the hardest, as I would be teaching a full timetable but also doing a full set of resources for the half that are home, but as a parent I know this option would have the greatest opportunity for my kids to get back on track.

I’m voting A because I live in an area that has had very few cases of covid let alone deaths. And that is in spite of increased visitor numbers in the last months.

So for us it’s kind of like a reverse local lockdown?
I’m tired of the company of my children, and I’m tired of them being left in limbo, and I’m sad to see their hard won social skills fading, not being put to use.

I really don’t want any of us be in this detrimental situation for longer because somewhere else in the country is different.

bumblingalongslowly · 15/08/2020 07:46

A

Gurtcha · 15/08/2020 07:48

A preferably but B realistically.
My family, particularly the children, will suffer with any other option. It doesn’t bear thinking about.

toohot200 · 15/08/2020 07:52

A with good hand washing / cleaning. So not B in it's full sense. Wearing a mask in Asda is one thing, a full day at school is not fair on children (I do it for work and I can't concentrate)

We had no remote learning. Zero. If we went to C, we'd be back to no education again on the home days.

I think how schools dealt with learning over lockdown will form people's views moving forward.

KnobChops · 15/08/2020 07:55

A year 11

Ida3456 · 15/08/2020 07:59

A

EndoplasmicReticulum · 15/08/2020 07:59

C for my family circumstances would suit, although I realise wouldn't work for all.
My children are secondary, enjoyed online working. We also live with my parents who are over 70.

AuntieStella · 15/08/2020 08:01

I wouid wish for A

but think that may be unicorn territory, what with local lockdowns isolation because of symptomatic classmates, 14 days each time. Hugely disruptive, and my DC are towards the top of secondary and we dread disruption and what it wouid mean for their public exams idc

So C would be my pragmatic preference, because I want my DC to have as few interruptions as possible.

B would be OK too, but if it were possible then there wouid be no need for separate options A&B, would there!

Popfan · 15/08/2020 08:03

I voted A - child going into Y8. I don't see the point of masks in school as I don't think they would prevent anyone from catching it when they are in the same form room with the same kids for 6 hours a day.
His school was amazing in terms of online provision - a full timetable each day (state secondary). However it was still really hard and it's no substitute for actually being at school with the teacher in the classroom.

Flowerfairy2020 · 15/08/2020 08:09

C secondary
