How many people do you know who have Covid symptoms right now and where are you?

I'm in S London, I am pretty sure I've had it but tests were not readily available when I had my symptoms in March. DH and DC didn't have symptoms so no idea if asymptomatic. Quite a lot of colleagues had it, nearly everyone had symptoms before schools closed in March (I work in a school). At the beginning of lockdown we were delivering food etc to families who were isolating, but we stopped needing to do that by about the end of April. I don't know if anyone in my school community or in my own circle who has had symptoms for a good few months. I'm guessing it's different in different areas and I was wondering what other peoples experiences are?

South East, London commuter in normal times into busy open plan office.

Know directly of nobody with symptoms now or in the past and no confirmed cases. Few friends of friends of my parents had it badly, but nobody any of us have ever met before.

manicinsomniac · 15/08/2020 03:45

Squandercore that's interesting and makes sense but, although I said I know zero now, I do know lots of people who have had it over the past 5 months and I'm white, middle class and living in a fairly affluent area with quite low incidence of the virus.

Those I know were:
3 doctors and 2 husbands of doctors
2 families of 5 both from our rural private school (but ill in April)
1 person from the church I go to (only one who needed ICU April - June)
1 nurse
2 teachers at our rural private school (ill very end of march)

I do know of 2 people who died (a friend's grandad and my grandad's friend)

AmICrazyorWhat2 · 15/08/2020 03:55

USA here. One of my parents’ friends had it and recovered (she’s in her 80’s so it’s amazing!). I don’t know anyone else who’s tested positive.

Like others, I do know a few people tho had something nasty in Feb/March but weren’t tested back then.

therhubarbbrothers · 15/08/2020 03:56

Three. Two died.

KoalasandRabbit · 15/08/2020 05:42

Rural area not aware of any cases since March other than 1 supermarket worker a month ago.

Old area by London lots of people saying they've have had it (but may not have been tested) - 5 in old school, two families we know x 4 (one NHS), pub owner, another family had 2 people die during it though not covid, one in 50s. Glad we moved.

bandbsmummy · 15/08/2020 05:52

Northwest - just a few miles from the local lockdown so have lots of family/friends inside greater manchester.

Currently DSis and her partner are just getting over it having tested positive 2 weeks ago. Know 10+ personally or relatives of friends who have had it including 3 who have sadly died.

Finfintytint · 15/08/2020 06:11

No one now. BIL tested positive in April ( key worker) but I don’t know anyone since. DH’s workplace had several cases in April ( chilled food factory) and he’s worried there might be a resurgence. Scotland.

timeforawine · 15/08/2020 06:12

I don't know anyone with symptoms, live in York.
Know 1 person who's had it, she works in a hospital in the Lake District and had it pretty mild

Samiad85 · 15/08/2020 06:40

None. West mids. Nobody I know has had symptoms at any point.

niceupthedance · 15/08/2020 06:45

1 person now who returned from Europe last week.
I know 7 people from one GP surgery have had positive antibody tests; loads of us were ill but no tests available in primary care in March. DC and DP and the babysitter also had symptoms. Our neighbours were also poorly with symptoms in March. It was like a plague movie in London.

PaundryLouder · 15/08/2020 06:45

I'm in a rural part of Scotland. Don't know anyone first hand whose had a confirmed case, know one who had a suspected case back in March.

Oblomov20 · 15/08/2020 06:50

None. Not been ill. Don't know anyone who has. Surrey.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 15/08/2020 06:53

Currently.. none. (Lincolnshire)
Only know one person who definitely had it... My Great Aunt in a care home. She was in her 90s.

Know lots of people who were essential workers who were out and about throughout the crisis for work reasons- no one had it.
DH and DDs had strange illness late last year, early this year, including youngest DD coughing continuously from December to April. But of course there's no way of knowing. DH also came back to UK from France in March with a cough. Again no way of knowing.

It is really interesting that so few of us know people who have had it. I think the PP who said that we are unlikely to cross paths with the elderly, BAME, fruit pickers etc. has a very good point.

I live and work in an area where 45% roughly are BAME (Southwark) and many of the families in my school were affected by isolating with symptoms but we only know of 3 families out of about 300 who have lost relatives, thankfully.

I live in Pendle, highest rate in country at the moment I think. We are still in lockdown although I do not think my neighbours know this Hmm Even in the height of "proper" lockdown they had people round all the time, still do.

I have not been out of the house since Feb apart from a quick walk but I have had a bit of a sore throat since Wednesday and I have been feeling really odd, dizzy and weak,. I did a test yesterday and sent it off. MY DH did one too but he feels ok, but there are over 20 cases at his work right now so I am worried.

ThedietstartsonMonday · 15/08/2020 08:36

Staffordshire - since it all started I don't know anyone personally who has had it, neither does my husband. He works in a supermarket too and none of the staff have had it despite being in close proximity to the general public all day.
I can't even think of any of my friends who have mentioned they know people with it.

KoalasandRabbit · 15/08/2020 08:41

I know loads of elderly now we are rural and in old area lots of BAME, maybe 30% of people I know there were BAME, the 5 in DDs old school were all BAME and the school was around 95% BAME. Think its low here as its rural and also people are very careful as lots of elderly. I'm white and 40s so that bit's true.

YessicaHaircut · 15/08/2020 08:42

I’m in Devon, and don’t know anyone with symptoms currently. DH and I both had symptoms in Feb (me in particular, was coughing and breathless at night time for over a week but put it down to a cold and my mild asthma).
I do know one person who definitely had it back in April and was hospitalised but recovered. He is a young, fit man in his mid 30s. We also have a female friend who strongly suspects she had it in early January, she flew to Edinburgh for New Year’s Eve and a couple of weeks later was hospitalised with pneumonia. Again a healthy woman in her mid 30s.

Tadpolesandfroglets · 15/08/2020 08:43

I know of several people that have had ‘suspected’ covid but not confirmed by testing (although the doctors involved were pretty sure it was) and one person who was in hospital, on oxygen as it was pretty bad. N. W. Of England.

user1485461206 · 15/08/2020 08:46

2 who had symptoms, 1 being my husband and other 1 being a friend who works in a hospital both negative on 2 tests.
My Nan had a confirmed case, age 90 in a care home and took 9 weeks to test negative but she was perfectly fine throughout and is now back on the whiskey loving life.
1 guy at work tested positive, stayed off for 3 weeks, work at a place with over a 1000 people all there currently and nobody else has tested positive or had symptoms.

Scarby9 · 15/08/2020 08:48

None here currently (North Yorkshire) but two (married couple) in Northampton tested positive last week. One very mild symptoms, the other iller but not hospitalized.

squeekums · 15/08/2020 08:54

None, rural south Australia
No cases on record in out local area at all
Closest is 150km away in the city

kevinbacone · 15/08/2020 09:06

I know 5. One Doctor who has recovered fully and one family of 4 who still have no sense of smell. All of these cases were in the first week or two of lockdown.

kevinbacone · 15/08/2020 09:07

Oh and my friends elderly mother who died in her care home about 3 weeks after testing positive but who didn't appear to have any symptoms beyond being lethargic.
