How many people do you know who have Covid symptoms right now and where are you?

I'm in S London, I am pretty sure I've had it but tests were not readily available when I had my symptoms in March. DH and DC didn't have symptoms so no idea if asymptomatic. Quite a lot of colleagues had it, nearly everyone had symptoms before schools closed in March (I work in a school). At the beginning of lockdown we were delivering food etc to families who were isolating, but we stopped needing to do that by about the end of April. I don't know if anyone in my school community or in my own circle who has had symptoms for a good few months. I'm guessing it's different in different areas and I was wondering what other peoples experiences are?

Work in a big supermarket in south west. Hubby works in large organisation. Kids have loads of friends and contacts through work and college. Haven't heard of a single person with COVID at any point during this fiasco.

RaininSummer · 15/08/2020 00:10

I haven't yet personally known a person who has had it. In the South West.

Crinkledbeetroot · 15/08/2020 00:11

In the NW. Don't know anyone who has symptoms or anyone who has had it.

BarcelonaFreddie · 15/08/2020 00:14

None - Northwest. Know two people, back in April, who had it.
Know of a friend of a friend who died of it - again, back in April.

Cheeryp1e · 15/08/2020 00:19

My friend was tested positive this week, I’m now waiting on results, I have no symptoms
Friend is ill with it but not seriously
North West
First person I know to get it

Longdistance · 15/08/2020 00:24

I know of two people who had it in April, both have wives that are nurses. I don’t know anyone at the moment who may have it. Bedfordshire.

Newbiehere123 · 15/08/2020 00:26

I'm from central London and only know one person who has had it all this time. That one person happens to be a nurse working at a busy London hospital.

Bbq1 · 15/08/2020 00:32

None

Bbq1 · 15/08/2020 00:32

North West England

SengaStrawberry · 15/08/2020 00:33

None

Glasgow

Apparently estimated that only 275 people in Scotland are infectious just now.

Piixxiiee · 15/08/2020 00:38

3 people know (2dc) with symptoms and positive test this week. I personally know 4 people who tested positive (work in a school) and we were all sick in march before lockdown. DR said would say it was covid but obviously no test. Also 2 dc from my class also had symptoms at the same time as me. My family live elsewhere in UK (north west) and work in social care. They know 3 people who have died.
I'm south east.

LadyCatStark · 15/08/2020 00:39

0 and I know 0 who have had it at all.

notangelinajolie · 15/08/2020 00:45

A work colleague of my daughter's died of it in March and her work place was closed and remained closed for several months with everyone wfh. She has only just recently gone back to working in the office and was sent home again a few days ago because someone has tested positive. Looks like she is back working at home again.
Yesterday, my brother was sent home from his work for the same reason and they need to deep clean everywhere.
They both work for big companies in large open plan office environments.
Business's are really taking this seriously here.
We are in Greater Manchester.

Dazzedandconfused · 15/08/2020 00:52

Im in Scotland and know nobody atm. A friend of mine had it in April as did a work colleague have suspected covid 19 but not confirmed. A friend's relative sadly died of it in May.

elp30 · 15/08/2020 00:57

None. Texas.

Swelteringmeltering · 15/08/2020 00:57

I had symptoms back in March again just after lock down.

toodlepipsqueaks · 15/08/2020 01:11

No-one at present. In fact, the only people I know to have got tested throughout the pandemic were my PIL and SIL as one of them (now cannot even remember which) had a very short period of coughing. All came back negative.

At the moment it's a bit odd because we're obviously still taking it seriously, but without knowing anyone who's caught it even at this late stage it's hard to imagine it as a very credible threat.

toodlepipsqueaks · 15/08/2020 01:12

I'm SE btw.

squanderedcore · 15/08/2020 01:13

I've no idea if this is true, or if it applies to pps here or not, but I read on another thread that if you don't know anyone with C-19 it could be because they are mainly:

  • very elderly and ill and as such, not active in your local area
  • from the BAME community
  • working in a factory on a minimum wage
-from a temporarily resident migrant community ie fruit pickers

In summary, by definition, many belong to minority groups. And the average Mumsnet poster tends to be in their 30s/40s I imagine and white, middle class, perhaps?

lobsteroll · 15/08/2020 01:14

I'm south east and I had a Covid test today

Gingerkittykat · 15/08/2020 01:18

I'm in Central Scotland, my friends DD had symptoms a couple of days ago so missed her first day at school but her test came back negative.

I only know one person who had a confirmed case, he is a prison officer who was hospitalised but not in intensive care. I know a few people who think they have had it, I also think I had it in February.

Two people in my village died at the beginning of lock down but I didn't know them personally.

Teal99 · 15/08/2020 01:20

In SW London. Don't know anybody who has had covid.

morriseysquif · 15/08/2020 01:24

None right now but know two confirmed cases from April and about 12 unconfirmed.

morriseysquif · 15/08/2020 01:25

SE Greater London / Kent border

LyndaLaHughes · 15/08/2020 01:33

Wow this is interesting. I know a number of people who have had it, including being hospitalised and also know of friends who have lost relatives. I've also heard of a lot of elderly people in mine and the neighbouring parish (church) have died. Some of my colleagues still have no sense of taste and smell now even though they were ill before lockdown. I work in a school and it really concerns me how both staff and children were dropping like flies before lockdown with symptoms. We'll never know for sure who exactly had it but given positive antibody tests from colleagues and lingering symptoms from others, we know it was in the school. But I do live in the worst hit borough in the country.
