To think the government should enforce mask wearing by directing shops not to allow people in without them?

I’m not talking about the very few people with genuine ‘exemptions’ . I’m talking whole families and couples who can’t all have medical/psychological issues so can’t wear them.

Several times over the last few weeks, I’ve seen young couples (only younger people funnily enough) and family groups not wearing masks in my local supermarket and town shops.

I asked my supermarket why they are letting them in and they said they can’t enforce it.

Why should I and the majority of people go through the discomfort of having to put one on when ignorant twats like that just decide they’re not going to. We’re protecting them but they don’t give a shit about protecting usAngry?

I think we should all start heckling them to get out and get a mask on like I’ve seen happen in the US.

AIBU in that they deserve to be shamed into wearing a mask if they government aren’t going to be stricter about it?

We all want to get back to normal. It’s imbeciles like this who are going to prolong it for the rest of us.

Where I live there are signs posted at the entrance to those shops that are open 'No mask, no entry'.

They are like the old ones many premises had - 'No shirt, no shoes, no service'.

Weirdly, the vast, vast majority of people are happy to comply. There are no fights, no rude people insisting on their right to go about their business without a mask.

In other parts of the country where mask refusal has become a way of showing your support for Donald Trump, rates of covid transmission have been a serious problem. Could there be a causal relationship, I wonder...

@PatMullins

We’re fully aware of who is exempt and who just doesn’t want to wear one; for a routine, 5/10 minute pre-booked appointment where they are asked to wear a mask when they attend it’s a reasonable request.

Like I said, the patients don’t seem to take issue with the request; they have the option to use another service if they “just don’t want to wear one”

Oh so you're aware of every woman who's survived attempted or successful rape in their life (1
In 6 women)? Are you aware of every persons history of trauma? Even though 90% of rape cases go unreported, seems unlikely Hmm

It's not a 'reasonable request' to a woman who was held down and a hand held over her mouth to stop her screaming whilst a man violated her body. And I'm not under any obligation to share my rape story with anyone until I feel ready to do so. A '5/10 minute pre booked appointment' can be enough to trigger my ptsd and ongoing panic attacks. Or should I forgo any pre booked medical appointment until after the pandemic? By which time something that could've been easily treatable if caught early, has become terminal and could kill me?

It's not 'I just don't like' wearing a mask. It's that it triggers flashbacks and panic attacks for me because of something I'm not comfortable disclosing to judgemental pricks like you.

No, you feel I’m so unreasonable for requiring that my patients wear a mask for 5 minutes that you hope I am refused treatment one day.

I’ve stated my reasonings above for this, that I am complying with my employers policy and I’m asking what your excuse is for wishing for me to be declined treatment?

I misunderstood what you were asking and would agree with posters who've responded now you've clarified. Your workplace policy is illegal and discriminatory. You've said nothing to indicate that you think this is wrong, that you've protested against it, and that you're effectively carrying it out under duress. Your posts suggest that you actually support it. On that basis, I don't have any problem in hoping that you, the policy maker in question, and anyone else following that policy, are one day denied treatment through no fault of their own. Then maybe you will understand why the 'policy' is utterly abhorrent.

Unless you know the complete life history of each patient how on earth do you know who us exempt or not?
What a ridiculous statement to make.

You do not need to know why someone is exempt and gov guidelines say quite clearly NOT to challenge someone not wearing A mask.

And btw No company rules are above discrimination laws.
