Booked flights to Spain

BridgettJ · 04/08/2020 17:40

Booked 6 flights to Spain, leaving tomorrow. This was when you could travel.

It's via Ryanair and the advice is to now not travel. Can I get a refund. Or not even bother contesting it?

The only risk to you is no travel insurance.

Are you going to Menorca? Cases very low over there. They have a very good track and trace system (spoke to a local). They’ve had a total of 136 cases during the whole of the pandemic.

You’d have thought they wouldn’t have let us in versus the other way around! But it is what it is.

So quarantine and no travel insurance. That’s your risk.

BillieEilish · 04/08/2020 18:47

I agree @Delatron

thekingfisher · 04/08/2020 18:47

I'm on mainland Spain and flew out Saturday. You can get full insurance through Battleface very easily and reasonably priced.
All feels very safe here. Complete adherence to mask wearing etc and excellent protocols in restaurants etc.

itsgettingweird · 04/08/2020 18:48

@Piggywaspushed

Didn't Spain have 5000 cases today??
Wow! They may have if updated since I saw it Shock
itsgettingweird · 04/08/2020 18:50

@BillieEilish

That's why I asked where she was going! There are local lockdowns everywhere. Not where she is going though.

There are local lockdowns in the UK if I'm not mistaken?

Ah I see. Think I misunderstood. I thought you were saying Spain was safer than U.K. as a whole!

I do think there are areas safer than others in both countries.

And Balearics and canaries seem safer still.

ineedaholidaynow · 04/08/2020 18:53

I'm amazed the Canaries and Balearics want us!

Uhoh2020 · 04/08/2020 19:07

@brastrapbroken

You would rather go to Spain and risk Covid than lose a bit of money?

This has got to be one of the most bizarre way of thinking. Save the rest of the money you would have spent and stay safe.

She could just as easy take a holiday over here and catch covid! Many seaside resorts here are rammed at the moment.

@ineedaholidaynow

I'm amazed the Canaries and Balearics want us!
Of course they want us many of their livelihoods depend on tourism. Just like our economy needs to get back on its feet and businesses to survive so do there's. They rely more on overseas tourism than we do it will be a massive hit to them
Bathroom12345 · 04/08/2020 19:12

Am going to Ibiza end of August, do we think the quarantine will be lifted by then? I will get Battleface insurance if I need to. Very expensive non refundable villa and honestly feel it’s safer there.

Of course will quarantine as I work at home (and will also watch lots of box sets!)

Bathroom12345 · 04/08/2020 19:13

Have you seen the ridiculous prices the UK tourists spots are charging. Travelodges at over £100 per night,

BridgettJ · 04/08/2020 19:16

£50 a flight change, each way!!

Does anyone know where I can get insurance that covers me?

PatriciaHolm · 04/08/2020 19:17

@HairyFloppins

I think some of Spain's cases may include antibody tests for past cases? Correct me if I am wrong though.
Yes. Actual infections reported today were 1,178.

5 in the Balearics and 8 in the Canaries.

65% in Madrid, Catalunya and Aragon still.

BridgettJ · 04/08/2020 19:18

I've had Covid, so has my husband and child. All confirmed. So I'm not worried about that

HairyFloppins · 04/08/2020 19:19

Thanks PatriciaHolm.

HairyFloppins · 04/08/2020 19:19

Battleface OP if you are all under 59.

BridgettJ · 04/08/2020 19:19

@ineedaholidaynow because I booked the flight, then the next day they started restrictions!

OP posts:
Bathroom12345 · 04/08/2020 19:19

Battle face insurance. We were quoted £110 for 4 adults.

MistyMinge2 · 04/08/2020 19:23

As others have said, be super careful with your insurance. A lot of policies aren't valid if the FCO are advising against all but essential travel. So you'd be screwed if you had a medical emergency.

knittingaddict · 04/08/2020 19:26

I'm amazed the Canaries and Balearics want us!

I know, Ineedaholidaynow. All very well discussing whether the op will be safe in Spain, what about whether we should be potentially taking cv to other countries.

knittingaddict · 04/08/2020 19:27

Just seen that you've had covid, op. My post still stands as a general observation.

ScorpioSphinxInACalicoDress · 04/08/2020 19:27

Ryanair were allowing you to change free of charge, just paying any difference. I was supposed to fly to Madrid today. I've changed it to next year. Didn't have to pay anything because it was £9 cheaper.
Is the £50 the flight cost difference or have they changed their policy? This was about 10 days ago.

Velvet89 · 04/08/2020 19:28

Yes you need to speak with your bank.
Call Ryanair too

BridgettJ · 04/08/2020 19:29

Great! I'll go via Battleface. Thank you!

OP posts:
BridgettJ · 04/08/2020 19:30

Ryanair weren't changing flights for free last week! I'll check now!

OP posts:
BridgettJ · 04/08/2020 19:36

Thanks @thekingfisher - that sounds great.
