Did no one know gatherings at home were limited to 2 households?

So the only permitted Eid celebrations were having one brother and his family round, or one set of GPs, unless you all live together, in which case there's no change anyway?

I haven't had anyone in my house because the weather here has been lovely and we've stuck to outdoor gatherings, where up to six are allowed, but I have been vaguely aware it was only two households allowed to meet indoors. Even in the pub you're only supposed to meet up with one other household.

It does seem to have been a shocking failure of communication though.

@Grottyfeet i have asked where simon jt is as in england its still at 6 but they could be elsewhere in uk ?

Lilybet1980 · 01/08/2020 21:54

@Lovemusic33 they should be limiting capacity regardless of size and removing tables if necessary. But agree that a larger pub does seem a safer option.

ChristmasCarcass · 01/08/2020 21:54

Lilybet1980 Some pubs around here are like that, and some have big groups of people outside, not socially distancing, blocking the pavements. Like a Friday evening on Old Compton Street, and they are never usually like that. I assume it’s because there’s no room inside and they are buying takeaway drinks instead, but they are then milling around just outside the front door instead of taking the pints elsewhere.

I can see why it's confusing, but you have to remember the logic behind it - balancing keeping the economy going v safety.

30 people in a pub having dinner - generating money for the business owner, allowing them to continue to employ people.

30 people in someone's house for a family BBQ - not a business - no economic advantage to be balanced against the risk.

Likewise with weddings - once in a lifetime (hopefully) event, incredibly important event to include families, money for the wedding venue - 30 people worth the risk. 30 people in your house for your 37th birthday party which could be spent just as easily with your immediate family - not worth the risk.

And whilst I am no fan of this government, I actually see the logic in this.

I am just getting fed up by following guidelines religiously (just cancelled a holiday as there were going to be 4 households sharing one cottage - parents in law refused to believe that the guidelines are not enforceable) but then seeing other people not even bothering to pretend to do so (SO many friends on Facebook taking selfies with groups of friends/family I know they don't live with all squeezed into the shot).

Notfeelinggreattoday · 01/08/2020 21:57

Have ate at several pubs 95% stuck to max 6 but one didnt ?
Also social distancing again well followed but then wouldnt choose one if was packed and crowded

starsinyourpies · 01/08/2020 21:57

@Grottyfeet in England up to 6 people can meet from different households (so it could be 1 person each from six households) but over six people must be from 2 households only.

From gov.uk

2.2 How many people am I allowed to meet with outdoors?
You can meet in groups of up to six people who you do not live with or who are not in your support bubble.
You can also meet people in groups of more than six people if everyone is exclusively from two households (anyone in the same support bubble counts as one household).

starsinyourpies · 01/08/2020 21:59

Also on distancing it's still 2m apart unless taking extra precautions e.g. wearing masks when it is 1m+. So 5 people from different households sitting around a normal table in a cafe is not allowed but spaced out in a garden or park is ok.
@grottyfeet no 25 people arent allowed to rugby train at present max 6 and no contact and various other strict rules
Rugby training has entered phase 2 of training so full contact is allowed, the next phase is due on the 8th but we’re expecting that to change. You’re allowed to scrum with six (which obviously doesn’t work), but all other contact is allowed in a full training group.

Super League have slightly different rules to us as they need three negative tests before a match, they’re yet to confirm how many we need before we play. The league is back tomorrow, Leeds Huddersfield will be odd without the rivalry from fans.

SimonJT · 01/08/2020 22:01
@Simonjt where are you as that is t allowed in england
It is allowed in England, Super League is back tomorrow. Training resumed quite a while ago and levels of contact slowly increased in phases.

blametheparents · 01/08/2020 22:01

@SimonJT - where is this allowed?
In England, netball is not allowed to be played and the England netball association are putting forward rules to play with modified rules. And netball is more ‘socially distanced’ than rugby!

Notfeelinggreattoday · 01/08/2020 22:03

@SimonJT are you talking pro or grassroots as grassroots here im england is still sticking to 6 at several local clubs ?? Im confused how your allowed ?v

Agoddessonamountaintop · 01/08/2020 22:03

Toilenstripes I wish there was a ‘like’ button! I’m another one who’s pretty much stopped watching the news but that doesn’t mean I’ve given up trying to keep safe - or follow rules. I’m missing a memorial for a relative which is taking place this weekend - God knows how many people, squashed into a small house. Absolute madness.

Professional rugby.

Not sure what the regs are for grassroots at the moment, well, unless its rugby tots!

Notfeelinggreattoday · 01/08/2020 22:05

@SimonJT are you talking at profesional level like with football ?
Totally different for grass roots and rugby rfu and football grassroots is still low numbers
If your talking about pro then thats a little different

Notfeelinggreattoday · 01/08/2020 22:06

@SimonJT right just seen update and you are talking professional its very different at grassroots level and a lot stricter
I will be surprised if my boys get to play a game this year

Grottyfeet · 01/08/2020 22:06

I thought it was 2 households in gardens, 6 people in public outdoor spaces?

But god knows how many in a spin class, which are back up and running at my gym now, looked like 20+ in the photos (I won't be going)

Although we are in an area of concern and they’re saying to avoid mixing at all with another household indoors.

I would say the rules are explicit and have been very clearly communicated - to those who want to hear them!
blametheparents · 01/08/2020 22:09

@Notfeelinggreattoday - My kids play rugby and netball. I too will be shocked if they get to play this year. If they get to play at some point in 2021 then I’ll take that as a win. Sadly - both sports are pretty high risk.

Notfeelinggreattoday · 01/08/2020 22:11

@blametheparents yes I agree
DS 1 also does rugby as part of his college course so not sure how they will manage with that

Aramox · 01/08/2020 22:15

I agree comms have been shit but it’s perfectly easy to find the rules online. I know them and we keep to them as does my teenager.

Arthersleep · 01/08/2020 22:15

The rules have been confusing. However, it takes 2 minutes to look them up and understand them before making any arrangements.

Grottyfeet · 01/08/2020 22:15

This is from the current England Athletics guidance:

" Athletes and runners training in a public space, other than a track and field facility, can take place in unlimited numbers as long as the activity is taking place within a
COVID secure environment
setting."

Covid secure appears to mean with social distancing. So unlimited numbers if you social distance but only 6, regardless of social distancing in other guidance?

What I don't understand is why Arsenal were allowed to hug each other and jump all over one another today when they won.

Why is that allowed
