A trial of a drug which could reduce ICU admission by 79%, and is already in use for other things so doesnt need human trials for side effects etc.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-53469839
Promising news about one of the many vaccines in production.

Hospital admissions have not increased, more than 2 weeks after pubs and restaurants reopened.

Lots of reasons to think positive at the moment Smile

Blame. Yes I was going to post that article. Hope it's true!

MarcelineMissouri · 05/08/2020 09:05

I was also coming on to post that bbc article Grin

cathyandclare · 05/08/2020 09:07

That is a good article. Thanks for sharing @blametheparents. It's articulated lots of the stuff that's been going around in my mind, but in a much clearer way.

MarshaBradyo · 05/08/2020 09:10

Good article

Smileyoriley · 05/08/2020 09:13

Brilliant, thanks so much for sharing 😊

thereplycamefromanchorage · 05/08/2020 09:14

Great article - good perspective.

TeaInTheGarden · 05/08/2020 09:32

I saw the BBC article and also came to post it! So pleased to finally see some sense being reported by MSM.

Jrobhatch29 · 05/08/2020 09:34

Great article thank you

2020CanDoOne · 05/08/2020 10:06

Brilliant, level-headed article - I try and only look at the Beeb for news, don’t always succeed and get sucked into more biased sources.

DebLou47 · 05/08/2020 10:24

Thank you so much every other post is doom
And gloom

MadisonAvenue · 05/08/2020 11:36

Thanks for the link, that’s a great article.

This is interesting too: how Sweden and Italy are keeping numbers flat:

I am so glad to read this thread, it gives me a little bit of hope as I’m really struggling to see any light at the end of the tunnel x

Layladylay234 · 06/08/2020 08:11

Just adding this to keep this thread afloat above all the "Schools are going to be closed forever and I'm NEVER eating out at a restaurant again" threads.

From the mouth of an ICU doctor himself. Yes the situation in March/April was awful, they hope they don't see it again in winter but deaths and admissions continue to fall. And they need to assess the effects of the pandemic outside the actual virus.

Bumping too, I can’t believe quite how hysterical some threads are getting. I think it’s some sort of drama addiction.

This was a good and level article: www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-52003804

DebLou47 · 06/08/2020 11:03

Thanks ladies I think I need to leave Mumsnet there are so many threads on what they would do etc about schools etc or just won't read them and read this level headed thread !

Jrobhatch29 · 06/08/2020 14:36

BBC Newsnight - It's Now a Casedemic - YouTube
Birmingham ICU doctor talking about the increase in cases in the area. Less than 20 seriously ill across many hospitals and less than 10 critically ill... Compared to over 200 on ventilators in april. So so far the increase is not feeding into hospitals!

english.kyodonews.net/news/2020/08/c392de8c7ebc-abe-says-no-need-for-another-state-of-emergency-over-coronavirus.html

Japan will not be declaring another state of emergency over their increase in cases. They say cases are not as serious as those earlier in year and there is more understanding on how to treat those who do become very unwell.

Exactly that ^

More good news! The ONS says community spread looks to be levelling off. This was for the period of July - Aug (can't remember exact dates!). Think the chances of catching it in community are now 1 in 1900 people. And this is WITH summer holidays,WITH people going to pubs/restaurants. Great news imo
