Not sure if I would have the vaccination or not

Just that really.

I'm not sure that I would feel comfortable having a vaccination given that they whole world is in a race to create it and I would be scared that somewhere or another, corners had been cut and not all of the side effects were known.

Is there any information anyone has seen that's helped them make a decision regarding this? I haven't followed any of the vaccine talk.

Also I feel I should point out I haven't had any of my vaccines (not even as a child) so it would be a big step for me to have it and I'm very anxious.

Hmm it is going through the same phases of testing that all drugs do. It will be safe.

It's alright you saying it will be safe, but how do you know for sure?

There is no vaccine yet. We are still ( hopefully only) several months off.
I'd wait until the situation is a bit clearer and make a decision then.
But the vaccine will be safe, and well tested. I'll be first in the queue

MissCherryCakeyBun · 21/07/2020 13:06

I would take that risk.....I've had C-19 and I'm a Plasma donor, a close friend has lost her dad and brother to this terrible Virus.....this isn't like a mild cold.. it's torture and it can kill you.
Do you drive without a seatbelt too?

KayEngel · 21/07/2020 13:06

Me tooGrin

Blueberryham · 21/07/2020 13:09

I can’t remember where I read this but the oxford one I think is based on some of the work done to create a sars vaccine. Which is why they managed to get it ready so quickly. So I am hopeful that this provides some reassurance that it is safe as this was previously tested

Nixen · 21/07/2020 13:11

If you haven’t had any other vaccines then I can understand why this would be a big step for you. Why weren’t you vaccinated as a child?

Nomorescreentime · 21/07/2020 13:15

Would you consider getting up to date on your childhood vaccinations? They would greatly reduce your risk of getting a lot of diseases, some of which can be far worse if you get them in adulthood.

I would say if you aren’t comfortable with getting those there isn’t much anyone could say here to sway you to get a newer vaccine tbh.

kimlo · 21/07/2020 13:15

I would. I have put my name down as being intrested in the trials. They are now looking for people under 50 with an underlying health condition, do hopefully.

This has had as much money and brains thrown at it as possible, it also wasn't made from scratch, it's based on research in to SARs and MERs.

sirfredfredgeorge · 21/07/2020 13:18

What does safe mean? the last vaccine produced for a pandemic resulted in narcolepsy in probably 1 in 55,000 (as well as normal vaccine problems), is that safe? it doesn't kill you, but then Covid risk is also low for many.

Bsmirched · 21/07/2020 13:18

@kimlo can you link to this please. I'm in that category and very interested.

LaurieMarlow · 21/07/2020 13:19

They can’t guarantee total ‘safety’, but it will have gone through stringent safety checks.

I’ll be first in the queue. Getting us out of this mess will require some risks to be taken. Im happy to step up.

kimlo · 21/07/2020 13:21

www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/research/coronavirus-vaccine-research/

if you are part of the zoe tracking study they also ask if you are intrested in joining.

BigChocFrenzy · 21/07/2020 13:25

I would take it, as I'm 64
and hence at much higher risk than younger people

Bsmirched · 21/07/2020 13:31

@kimlo thank you. I have clicked on I'm interested a few times on the Zoe app but nothing seems to happen!

kimlo · 21/07/2020 13:35

I've signed up both ways. I think the zoe app just uses the information it already has on you and uses that. The problem I see with it is I log for more than one person, but I can't say they are all intrested.

Pinkyyy · 21/07/2020 13:39

To answer a couple of questions-

I didn't have my childhood vaccinations because my parents chose not to give them to me, I've considered having them as an adult but have struggled a lot with the decision, every time I go to the doctors they ask me if I'd like to book them.

I just feel so anxious about it but I'll have a read through the links, thanks everyone. I was also under the impression that they were much closer to finding it so I'm glad it doesn't feel as rushed.

I really don't understand why you would struggle with the decision not to have your childhood vaccinations.

As for a covid vaccine, I'll be first in the queue.

Ethelfleda · 21/07/2020 13:46

It's alright you saying it will be safe, but how do you know for sure?

We don’t because we aren’t virologists or epidemiologists or any other type of scientist. I trust the science.
Believe in people who know MORE THAN YOU DO about this topic. You are not an expert.

I know I'm not an expert, but as far as coronavirus goes, the experts have not always been right. It's not that I don't trust that they can make a vaccine, it's that there's no way of knowing for sure how it will affect me personally. I could be the 1 in 55,000.

I would happily be vaccinated as soon as it becomes available, microchip and allGrin

Floralnomad · 21/07/2020 14:04

If you haven’t even bothered to get yourself a measles vaccine I wouldn’t worry about having a vaccine for Covid as you are far more likely to become seriously unwell with measles unless you have shed loads of underlying health issues . Personally I will be getting a vaccine ASAP .

Pinkyyy · 21/07/2020 14:05

@Floralnomad I had measles when I was 20

Don’t have it then!

Pinkyyy · 21/07/2020 14:08

@OverTheRainbow88

Don’t have it then!
I'm just trying to gain some knowledge about it. I haven't decided yet but would like to try and make an informed decision.

I had imagined people would be a bit more divided but it appears as though everyone would be happy to have it.
