I remember a few weeks ago that there was talk of a 'summer school catchup scheme'. What happened with this? Binned?

That was just Gav chatting shit. :o

Judgeypants2020 · 20/07/2020 11:39

@echt
I thought that at the time. Everyone was talking about it at the time and this morning I remembered that nothing was ever mentioned about it again Grin

nothing!

Enoughnowstop · 20/07/2020 13:18

Next summer. Possibly.

daisymay133 · 20/07/2020 13:23

Our school is doing it for last two weeks - state school but it looks like something they’re doing themselves

annie987 · 20/07/2020 13:36

The same thing that happened with getting all primary children back to school before summer! They say these things, realise they are impossible to achieve and quietly forget about them, hoping everyone else will too!

BackInTime · 20/07/2020 13:41

Did anyone really believe this was in the cards? Hmm

palacegirl77 · 20/07/2020 13:45

Teachers dont get paid to work over the summer ergo it was never going to happen.

ThatsHowWeRowl · 20/07/2020 13:46

Oh yeah, I had totally forgotten about this, and I work in a school! 😂

Chosennone · 20/07/2020 14:04

Same as the laptops for disadvantaged kids in school!

Are the free school meals in the summer holidays happening?

Judgeypants2020 · 20/07/2020 14:04

@ThatsHowWeRowl
I never thought it was going to happen but just incredible that they dropped it in never to be mentioned by them or a journalist again.

Teachers are on a break. People are on holiday. No money to fund it. Kids needs a break.

Piggywaspushed · 20/07/2020 16:17

It's been announced today. It's is going to start in October. True fact.

Angel2702 · 20/07/2020 16:19

It is from September not in summer holidays. Schools here are recruiting extra teachers and putting on extra lessons for catch up sessions.

WhenSheWasBad · 20/07/2020 16:19

It’s starting in October? Confused

Piggywaspushed · 20/07/2020 16:23

Ish. Maybe. If possible. At the latest. Or the earliest.

Lovelydovey · 20/07/2020 16:24

I have heard anecdotally that some pupils at my DC’s school are attending catch up classes at the local private school. But mine weren’t offered anything despite not having been in since early March.

I’m going to sound very entitled but I suspect it was offered to the same pupils the school decided to let back into school from June - need based on KiT calls apparently (my children had one KiT call in late May when I pointed out they hadn’t been contacted, so how they made these decisions I have no idea). Fed up of being considered to be coping - we are struggling with lockdown and wfh and home schooling. My DC are largely neglected and left to own devices - though obviously basic needs Are met.

azaleanth90 · 20/07/2020 16:24

Mine doesn't need a break. He's had approx 2 hours work a day and digested the entire internet! I wish there was something, preferably compulsory, for idle teens.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Best reply ever!
Soontobe60 · 20/07/2020 16:28

The school I had been volunteering at pre covid has employed me as a teacher for 2 days a week from September for catch up with key groups. This will be funded from the money being pumped into schools for exactly that purpose.
Today it was announced that all schools will get at least 2% extra in their budget next year.

Ohfrigginghellers · 20/07/2020 16:36

It's just all a pile of shite 💩

These are the initial details:

Today it was announced that all schools will get at least 2% extra in their budget next year If we are lucky that might cover all the extra hazard tape, signage and anti bac that have been bought from existing funds.

Wankerchief · 20/07/2020 17:12

2 whole percent!

I'm deceased😂
