Who else has noticed the shops running low on stock?

Anyone else? Clothes shops - sparse stock, what remains is last season's rejects. Furniture and electrical - empty space where goods have sold out without replacement. Even misc in John Lewis, e.g. mirrors etc. Is anyone here in buying/stock management and know anything about this?

I did read that fashion chains cancelled next season orders at lockdown, but with restrictions world wide (and tensions high between UK and China), when will full stock return?

Sorry was meant to tag @KobeWan in last post 🤣 oops

Esca · 20/07/2020 18:28

@rosegoldwatcher I had better luck finding cumin seeds when I searched for Jeera instead. (This was on the Tesco website.)

rosegoldwatcher · 20/07/2020 18:40

@Esca - thank you for that. I will write jeera on the shopping list.

Babyshine2020 · 20/07/2020 18:48

Sweetcorn! I cannot get green giant sweetcorn in my local Tesco for love nor money..! I/we've been in 3 times in the last week.

Jillhaspeakyponies · 20/07/2020 18:56

White vinegar as others have said, ham, but I know that two of the big factories that supply the supermarkets had a covid outbreak and had to close.

GellerYeller · 20/07/2020 19:17

Struggled to find icing sugar too till recently. Only large boxes in Morrisons available. Then the same day saw what looked like catering size sacks of it in Home Bargains. Near the front door which is where our local store seem to put stuff that's been out of stock.

MayFayre · 20/07/2020 21:22

BertieDrapper Pochins. They might just be a local chain (East Midlands). They had to order the stock from the manufacturer though. Maybe we just got lucky!

My lovely neighbour found me a huge box of Fairy washing powder today.

LioneIRichTea · 20/07/2020 21:25

Yes!! I was just going to post about this myself after noticing it just doing an online shop. There are a lot of items, cheese, tinned tomatoes, rice etc. that are out of stock. Eggs! I tried to put 2 boxes of eggs in my basket and had a pop up saying I couldn’t order more. Either people are prepping thinking about another lockdown or there’s something going on...

AncientRainbowABC · 21/07/2020 00:05

Noticed this today too.

Went to pick up some prescription meds for DH at a large Boots in London: much fewer items of every type on the shelves (eg 4 shampoo bottles or 3-4 baby food pouches of the same type when usually there’d be too many to count), some things like face masks and moisturiser were down to the last one and dusty at that, general vibe was a bit sad.

Two chain clothes shops on our High St have shut down completely and one has a much reduced offer now. The clothes shops that were still open seemed a bit shambolic and lots of greys/blacks. Local bookshop best of the lot and seems to have been restocked recently.

And also yes to Worcester sauce and certain baby items in smaller sizes.

AncientRainbowABC · 21/07/2020 00:06

With the eggs and tinned tomatoes etc, could it be self-catering holidays? Perhaps a bit of a leap too far!

Doodar · 21/07/2020 02:43

Ikea was out of loads of items when I went at the weekend. Wilkos have very little household stuff. Primark loads of sizes missing

Peterbishopssarcasticsmile · 21/07/2020 02:49

Eggs and tinned tomatoes have been rationed in online shopping for ages for me, across lots of different supermarkets so I'm not sure that's new

Graciebobcat · 21/07/2020 04:49

Haven't noticed any supermarket supply issues since April. I've hardly been in any other shops- chain store shopping in person was already pretty pointless before lockdown due to limited stock.

flowerycurtain · 21/07/2020 07:29

Eggs isn't to do with the supply of eggs. We have more than enough supply. It's the packaging. There's only so many egg boxes produced in China. The UK had a big stock of them for Brexit but as consumption moved from commercial (restaurants etc) to domestic we used them all up.

Fascinating farming fact of the day for you!!

HalloumiSalad · 21/07/2020 07:53

Mango chutney was unavailable for weeks in all my local supermarkets, then a few jars turned up in the shelf of one but it was some random brand name is never heard of.
Makes you feel weird to know that you are so dependant on supply chains functioning like they always have. I think many shorter supply chains would be more resilient in straitened times and wonder if shops will cultivate these in future.

Rebelwithallthecause · 21/07/2020 08:03

I haven’t been able to get lee and perrins for weeks Sad

Rebelwithallthecause · 21/07/2020 08:05

Frosties?!!!!’ Discontinued?!!!!!!!!!!

FaceOfASpink · 21/07/2020 08:10

Decent compost.Sad

ifonly4 · 21/07/2020 08:17

The cat food I buy ran out very quickly into lockdown. I contacted the manufacturer who informed me it was a knock on effect and some of their lines had been closed down, typical both types my boys eat! Much to my relief, I found a small online supplier who has 18 boxes. £6 delivery but it was a small price to pay for two fussy cats. Their food is now available again, but there were a good two months it wasn't available.

Dishwasher rinse aid. Hard to find for ages.

Katharinablum · 21/07/2020 08:57

Not read the whole thread but t k maxx is looking very bare too round our end. Hardly any candles, cushions, general nik nak !
Had a mooch round and it was a bit meh but then I've thought for a while that some of the home decor stuff wasn't as good as it used to be - at one time you could get some lovely quirky stuff, now it's just blingy.

Icequeen01 · 21/07/2020 09:07

Mackeson Stout in little cans! My 80 year old mum drinks about a third of a can each night as she has had lots of problem with anaemia (no idea if the stout actually helps but she thinks it does). I haven't been able to get any since about April. I hate seeing her disappointed face every time I take her shopping and have to tell her there wasn't any.

Lifejacket · 21/07/2020 12:20

@Icequeen01 my late grandad loved a Maccies, he said it helped with iron too. I hope you manage to locate some for her. X

I haven't been able to get tinned carrots, tinned sweetcorn, antibacterial wipes of any make, elmlea (for my grandma, she won't have any other) and household gloves. I think there is actually more as I was talking to dh about this the other night but just can't remember them.

Lifejacket · 21/07/2020 12:23

Just thought liquid soap with the pump on, we seem to just be getting cared in a shower gel bottle. I read somewhere there is a shortage of the pumps so I've put a couple of empties with the pumps to one side. Cooked meats is the other, it says on the Asda website that they have a shortage they're working to resolve.
