Who else has noticed the shops running low on stock?

Anyone else? Clothes shops - sparse stock, what remains is last season's rejects. Furniture and electrical - empty space where goods have sold out without replacement. Even misc in John Lewis, e.g. mirrors etc. Is anyone here in buying/stock management and know anything about this?

I did read that fashion chains cancelled next season orders at lockdown, but with restrictions world wide (and tensions high between UK and China), when will full stock return?

Bikes, bike stuff......but demand for new bikes went through the roof due to lock down. Bike shops look like they’ve been robbed round here!

feesh · 19/07/2020 20:06

I went to Go Sport for camping gear and the shop was completely depleted of anything useful. Ended up going home and ordering online from them instead. These shops are sealing their own fates

I ordered some new carpets recently and supplier said a shortage of carpets as well, In stock selection was very limited.

Emmagen · 19/07/2020 20:06

I'm having issues finding baby clothes! No urgency as not due till November and we have all of DS's old stuff anyway but have just found out that this one is a girl so wanted to grab a couple of girly baby grows to balance out all the boyish ones from DS... nope!

I searched half a dozen websites and of the ones I liked they were either out of stock completely or I could have them in 18-24 month or up to 6lb. DS was 8lb12 so up to 6lb seemed a little small!

baroqueandblue · 19/07/2020 20:12

White vinegar! None in Savers or Wilko for months now, and I use it for a lot of my cleaning so I'm really fed up at not being able to get any. Looked online but it's only worth buying in bulk sizes and yet the reviews and seller descriptions are so at odds that I fear wasting money and being stuck with substandard product to dispose of.

nancy75 · 19/07/2020 20:12

When shops closed a lot of clothing retailers moved stock out of store into their online warehouses, I know some are loathe to put too much back in store as their online sales are stronger & there was worry about locking down again & not having access to the stock.
My friend is in charge of freight forwarding for a large department store chain (she deals with stock coming here & also their overseas stores) a couple of weeks ago they had containers full of stock stuck in customs places all over the world & were waiting to get it released and sent in

powkin · 19/07/2020 20:17

@LooseleafTea - I was just about to buy a laptop from them but it went out of stock - VERY glad I didn’t now!

@IveSeenThings - you can get the Haagen Dazs one on Ocado - 2 for £6. I got free next day delivery too - how times have changed since beginning of lockdown!

I need a new dining set and cutlery as I’m clumsy and keep breaking bits and after 12 years the cutlery is falling apart (the type with the enamel handles) and there was basically nothing on JL online. I looked there as there was a sale but basically one plate in the sale so not very helpful. If anyone has any recommendations for good plates and bowls etc I’m all ears! DH is very precious about having very flat plates Hmm

powkin · 19/07/2020 20:19

@baroqueandblue - yes!! I use it to get grubby toddler finger marks off the mirrors and windows!

IveSeenThings · 19/07/2020 20:36

Thank you @powkin. Is that actual strawberry or is it strawberries and cream? Sorry, DS is v fussy...

PicsInRed · 19/07/2020 20:41

The gaps between clothing displays is growing. It's like stock is selling and there's nothing to replace it with, so they remove the hangers. I saw a sign up at JL last week saying something to the effect of "we know stock is low but we're sharing with the online business". Reasonable enough sounding, except surely you have enough stock for display in store and to supply the online warehouse? Unless there's a critical supply issue.

Baby prams were half gone. Huge space just empty.

No cumin seeds or cinnamon sticks at Tesco.
Not one of life's necessities unless you are a keen home curry cook.

MayFayre · 19/07/2020 20:55

Fairy washing powder. It’s the only one I can use and it’s out of stock everywhere here and on Ocado.

MotherMorph · 19/07/2020 21:01

I've barely been in any shops apart from the supermarket (which in recent weeks has been well stocked) but when I went in wilkos (my one mo supermarket trip a few weeks ago) it felt like a closing down sale.

GalactiCat · 19/07/2020 21:04

Sliced ham. Its been OOS at my Asda for last two weeks.

VirginiaWolverine · 19/07/2020 21:14

The shop where I work isn't allowed to order any new stock until autumn - we just don't have the cash flow to get stuff in at the moment.

Tappering · 19/07/2020 21:31

We had part of our fence re-done recently. Our contractor had to cancel two jobs after us as he could not get concrete posts or gravel boards - he'd gone to several suppliers and they were empty. Stock was selling out within the hour apparently.

thenightsky · 19/07/2020 21:32

Garden furniture. Every set I click on is out of stock or 'not available in your area'.

Peterbishopssarcasticsmile · 19/07/2020 21:34

I think it's quite worrying
So much stuff out of stock

Baby clothes and socks impossible to get
I've had to buy a lot of things off Amazon which I wouldn't normally

SpringIsSprung1 · 19/07/2020 21:34

Soy sauce! Impossible to get north west, Wirral peninsula

thenightsky · 19/07/2020 21:36

@Tappering We've had issues with fencing too.

thenightsky · 19/07/2020 21:38

@SpringIsSprung1

I got soy sauce off Amazon last week. Two 500ml bottles for about £8.

RightOnTheEdge · 19/07/2020 21:40

I have been shopping with Asda for the last few weeks and I have had a lot of things be out of stock before delivery day.
I had 8 substitutions today.

GalactiCat I've had this problem too. There is hardly any cooked sandwich meat. There is a note on the website now saying they are having a problem with suppliers and are working on it.

nancy75 · 19/07/2020 21:42

Garden furniture is obvious though, nice weather during lockdown, people not going away on holiday this year - they‘ve spent weeks doing the garden & have bought new stuff. I bet shops selling garden furniture sold more in May than they had predicted to sell for the whole year.

Nat6999 · 19/07/2020 21:46

Looseleaftea I ordered a smart watch & headphones, paid the extra for next day delivery. The delivery didn't turn up, I spent nearly two days on hold trying to get through to customer services to be told I had to wait 14 days for them to investigate where my goods had gone. It took three weeks & threatening to report them to trading standards to get my goods, no apology or offer of compensation. I found a page on Facebook for anyone having problems with Currys, there are thousands more in the same boat as I was, some have lost thousands of pounds.

slippermum · 19/07/2020 21:47

I can't get Frosties for love nor money!
