Who else has noticed the shops running low on stock?

Anyone else? Clothes shops - sparse stock, what remains is last season's rejects. Furniture and electrical - empty space where goods have sold out without replacement. Even misc in John Lewis, e.g. mirrors etc. Is anyone here in buying/stock management and know anything about this?

I did read that fashion chains cancelled next season orders at lockdown, but with restrictions world wide (and tensions high between UK and China), when will full stock return?

My GP has started giving me the brand name version of Sertraline, which is more expensive. This suggests a supply issue imo.

I think so. There's a home brand antiseptic I buy, it keeps going out of stock recently. I had a look on the back and it's made in Israel. We have such long and complicated supply chain that we are so at the mercy of even minor events, let alone a global pandemic.

Bed sheets. The only ones I find that fit are from next and they haven’t had any in online for ages. Also, garden toys.

MayFayre · 20/07/2020 12:52

@BertieDrapper

I def noticed this! Went to Home Bargains a few weeks ago and was so disappointed that they hardly had anything in!

We also ordered a load of bathroom bits back in June - new bath, shower etc all in prep for our bathroom being done in August.
Still hasn't arrived and delivery date keeps being pushed back! Getting slightly concerned now !

Bathroom stuff is the one thing we’ve had super quickly. Ordered one day, delivered less than 24 hours later - bath, shower etc.

I've had real trouble adding eggs to my online grocery shops for at least a month now.

justasking111 · 20/07/2020 13:19

Are these regional issues, home bargains, wilko, fully stocked here. Tesco two vacuum packs of ribs, worcestershire sauce co-op. I know garden furniture is in short supply DIL was stuck buying some. Currys ordered a printer arrived 48 hours later.

But it will get worse as stuff piles up at customs or factories shut. We ordered glass panels for around decking, well try getting glass just now.

justasking111 · 20/07/2020 13:20

Re: eggs, butchers sell them sometimes. Bought a dozen free range, they also had duck eggs.

Crumpets111 · 20/07/2020 13:22

Everything in stock here.

Charlottejade89 · 20/07/2020 13:25

Couldn't get any garden furniture this year at all. Also expecting a baby and literally all the baby clothes is sold out online in small sizes. Next have nothing available at all

Autviaminveniamautfaciam · 20/07/2020 13:27

I've been saying this for weeks. Stock is starting to run very low on a lot of things. It isn't just household stuff, it is also some grocery items.

I actually work for a national retailer and their stockrooms are literally empty. There is a supply chain issue. Manufacturing slowed right down, shipping/ air freight all up the creek and furloughed, reduced numbers of staff. In my chain it is not lack of customers we are concerned about, it is the lack of stock.

Autviaminveniamautfaciam · 20/07/2020 13:28

Try and buy local from butchers, grocers that all get locally farmed goods if you can.

woodhill · 20/07/2020 13:37

Some small baby sizes on M&S, had a quick look

MollyAtTheFolly · 20/07/2020 14:48

@slippermum

I can't get Frosties for love nor money!
They were discontinued last year, @slippermum

That's quite concerning, as we all know that cashflow is key and a lack of stock turnover = no margin = no cash. With overheads still going out, I'm not sure what the answer is - but if no stock is coming in for sale at cash margin then doors will eventually close. That will affect us all.

I guess there will be another major speech by Rishi Sunak soon. In-country manufacturing incentives? Goods may cost more, but mass unemployment and empty factories would be averted so some upside there.

@Galaticat I was coming on to say sliced ham as well! Loads of sausages, bacon, pork chops, etc. So where is the ham?!

Greydrapex · 20/07/2020 16:39

The tesco delivery man said the big supermarkets had stockpiled for Brexit so have had stuff. I wonder if now they’ve burned through that.

onemouseplace · 20/07/2020 16:44

Yes to marigolds - I accidentally ordered some for DH that turned out to be the black, outdoor ones so now he looks like he's disposing of a body every time he does the washing up!

And there's been no strawberry sauce in Sainsbury's for months now.

BertieDrapper · 20/07/2020 17:35

@MayFayre where did you order from?

We ordered from Victoria plumbing

wrongsideofhistorymyarse · 20/07/2020 17:45

I couldn't get marmite for a week.

SickOfNorthernExile · 20/07/2020 17:48

Had very little choice of products on online shop (Morrisons) on Sunday. Lots of stuff sold out, leaving just 1 or 2 options of any kind (Eg ham, prawns, apples, gluten free bread etc)

KaronAVyrus · 20/07/2020 17:54

@wrongsideofhistorymyarse

I couldn't get marmite for a week.
Marmite is made with brewers yeast and because all the pubs were closed brewers halted production hence the marmite shortage. Should be sorted soon.
powkin · 20/07/2020 18:14

@Peterbishopssarcasticsmile how old is your baby? I have lots of socks that are too small for my 17 month old (who has mega feet) so maybe I could post you some?! Have clothes too that have been piling up as our local swap/exchange isn’t open.

powkin · 20/07/2020 18:17

@IveSeenThings - well I’d say it is strawberry flavour but it is officially called strawberries and cream, but the icecream is obviously partly cream! It’s my favourite strawberry, made with actual strawberries (so 25% healthy!). If he doesn’t eat it I’m sure someone else can hoover it up.

powkin · 20/07/2020 18:21

I spoke to a pharmacist the other day (was trying to get an emergency prescription —of a period clotting drug due to going out without it and all hell breaking lose—) and he says they have huge supply issues for lots of drugs, including the over the counter drug that is like my one. Same with baby reflux medication too.

WitchyPoos · 20/07/2020 18:22

@BertieDrapper the cooked meat factory that the supermarket I work at uses has had to close down due to Covid cases. A few supermarkets might use it
