Who else has noticed the shops running low on stock?

Anyone else? Clothes shops - sparse stock, what remains is last season's rejects. Furniture and electrical - empty space where goods have sold out without replacement. Even misc in John Lewis, e.g. mirrors etc. Is anyone here in buying/stock management and know anything about this?

I did read that fashion chains cancelled next season orders at lockdown, but with restrictions world wide (and tensions high between UK and China), when will full stock return?

I have had no issues with Curry’s at all - I ordered a big lot of gaming stuff for DS and it all arrived fine. Their Click and Collect service was also well organised. Also had printer ink delivered. Maybe I was just lucky though.

Pectin

B&Q - Trouble getting hold of paint and door handles

Ikea - nothing is ever in stock

Fairy washing powder the coop one is good and does not make me itch.

Primark was odd childrens clothes were fine but womens all blacks and greys uber drab clothing when they opened up. I think it was winter stock.

Customs will be affected so stuff in stuck in warehouses rather than being delivered.

PicsInRed · 19/07/2020 21:53

Good heads up on Currys. Cash flow issues? Otherwise they'd just refund, wouldn't they?

I've noticed another funny one - cream almost never has the little plastic lid! It has the seal you tear off, but no lid. So if you don't use all the cream at once, there's no cover for in the fridge. I've taken to washing and saving the lids whenever they're included. Confused

I have something stuck at customs right now! Ordered just before lockdown.

Online orders are slower because warehouse can’t have as many staff to pick/pack the order due to keeping distance, so less staff & a massive increase in online orders. It must be a nightmare to work in warehouse at the moment

Haven't been in shops much yet, but clothing for both adults and children has been difficult online for months. Definitely nowhere near the full range of summer stock. Kids summer shoe/trainer styles limited too. Which has been a nightmare as I had a really big clearout over the winter and really needed to stock up on some summer basics for all of us! Plenty of office wear though! I was tempted to stock up on a few things, but not expecting to be in the office this side of Christmas so doesn't seem worth it.

Iceland are brilliant for getting a delivery slit for the next day and I've never had any bad substitutions. And free delivery over 35 quid.

Currys isn't sustainable, there has been so much bad publicity, Watchdog are on to them, Trustpilot reviews are shocking, they will go the same way as Comet.

Dolmolandsnowdrops · 19/07/2020 22:43

I went to Dunelm today for the first time since lockdown and mentioned to DH afterwards that the shelves didn’t seem to be as full as they used to be.

The 'just in time' economy does not work during a crisis.

We are stuck in a downward spiral and I don't see how we can get out of it.

Puffthemagicdragongoestobed · 19/07/2020 22:49

We really want a new shed and the earliest we can get one is September

WhentheDealGoesDown · 19/07/2020 22:49

I read that M&S, Next and Debenhams put stuff into storage for next year, haven’t really been in any shops to notice shortages though, I bought some clothes from Next Directory but their stuff is sometimes on back order, what I wanted was there though. I managed to buy a bread maker from John Lewis online by some miracle a couple of weeks ago, they were completely OOS for ages and still seem to be

Bin85 · 19/07/2020 22:56

Anyone seen Robinson's Lemon Barley Water?

kateluvscats · 19/07/2020 22:58

Tesco soy sauce

CountreeGurl · 19/07/2020 23:05

Good practise for no deal brexit

Bebbanburger · 19/07/2020 23:33

Ikea PAX wardrobes ☹️

welldonesquirrels · 19/07/2020 23:44

Jojo Maman Bébé is basically the online equivalent of empty shelves at the moment. Everything I clicked on seemed to be out of stock or only available in limited sizes.

okiedokieme · 19/07/2020 23:53

@twoglassesofprosecco

We put the lack of garden furniture down to the warm spring and everyone else has already bought it up - Homebase had more to be fair but only because they had just had an extra delivery

I fear you are correct.
TheUnquestionedAnswer · 19/07/2020 23:58

@IveSeenThings

Yes to marigolds! Also- no Sainsbury's own Jaffa cakes. For months and months (and we only buy those ones because mcvities have palm oil in them) No worcestershire sauce Hmm What are people making with it all? The strawberry jam my son likes was out of stock for six weeks until this week.

Strawberry ice cream too. I haven't seen any for months.

I had trouble getting Worcester sauce a few months back, so managed to borrow some from my daughter, only to find my own bottle in the back of my cupboard.

They are not missing in this neck of the woods.

Purpleartichoke · 20/07/2020 00:04

I’m having trouble getting some of my commonly used products, things I can’t substitute because of allergies. I’ve got a few weeks left, but washing my clothes is looking problematic soon. I managed to get some tooth paste finally, just before I resorted to baking soda.

I’m a retailer and am amazed at this thread! When we went into lockdown, everything went into lockdown..manufacturing and distribution. The supply chain is seriously backed up in everything.. obviously we would like full shelves so I wonder where a/ you think this stock is coming from when the manufacturers have been closed and b/ how retailers are paying for all this new stock after being closed for months?
