Does anyone know what the current alert level actually is?

It seemed to come out of nowhere, be hailed as the next big thing and then vanish. I've just googled and I can't see that the actual alert level is published anywhere.
Was it just a gimmick?

It was a big thing until the scientists didn't want to reduce it from 4 to 3, we then spent ages at 'between 3 and 4' Hmm and now we hear nothing.

I assume we are at 3 still. Nothing has improved so it shouldn't have dropped.

It is meaningless because we have policy-informed science, not science-informed policy.

Sorry, I need to stop being so Angry!

The alert level was based on hitting certain numerical figure including R number to allow us to reduce lockdown. The gov wanted to reduce lockdown without having reached those lower figures so they just got rid of the alert level.

Interesting. The impression they gave was that groups of scientists would be agonising over the alert level! I suspect you're right.

And they wonder why nationally there's a lack of confidence Hmm
Cusano34 · 19/07/2020 07:43

It was the scientists who suggested moving to level 3 wasn’t it?

BillywilliamV · 19/07/2020 07:53

We're at 'hmmmm!'

However both my sisters are still at 'AAAAAAGH!'

A lot depends on personality.

Stealth do try and keep up. We moved from “stay at home” to “stay alert” and now we’re at “stick your head in the sand”

Ok?

RufustheRowlingReindeer · 19/07/2020 10:10

I tried googling it the other day because my orthodontist said he cant do certain things Brace wise til the level is 2

Couldn’t find anything

flibbertmygibbert · 19/07/2020 10:18

I believe we are current on medium. Should be on Lemon and Herb around Christmas if all goes to plan.

I thought they scrapped that?

AllTheWhoresOfMalta · 19/07/2020 15:34

I imagine that the alert levels have been quietly buried along with the daily briefings and now the daily death toll.

iwantavuvezela · 19/07/2020 15:35

@flibbertmygibbert 😂😂😂

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 19/07/2020 17:10

I’d forgotten we ever had an alert level tbh.

I think it got ditched somewhere between the govt saying schools would start to go back on 1st Junewas at 3 and when we sent them back anyway after the scientists refused to put it down to 3 and the level became ‘trending towards 3’.

nether · 19/07/2020 17:42

They're pausing shielding on 1st August

On the original announcement, that happened at Extra Mild

So it ought to be low 2 by now

Heatherjayne1972 · 19/07/2020 17:53

Mmm they’re keeping quiet because they are expecting another wave to coincide with the flu season
That’s why bojo has promised extra money to the nhs and why they will really push the flu jab program and the reason for mask wearing

If they announce the threat level to drop now then we get another wave they’ll put it up and risk a lot ( more) non compliance

This occurred to me again today. Does anyone have a clue what the alert level is? The latest I can find is news items from June.

Bump

AdelaidePlace · 29/08/2020 20:06

Nope, it didn't go how the government wanted, it didn't prove what they wanted to prove...so it isn't mentioned.

Just like the much talked about 'R number' which is also rarely( never) mentioned.....

StealthPolarBear · 29/08/2020 21:04

Oh I don't know, the R number still seems to get a look in fairly regularly. The wonderful alert level which was going to be soooo amazingly helpful though has just vanished.
