Does anyone know what the current alert level actually is?

It seemed to come out of nowhere, be hailed as the next big thing and then vanish. I've just googled and I can't see that the actual alert level is published anywhere.
Was it just a gimmick?

We never heard what happened to the 5 tests either.

Poor tests, set up to be at the heart of decision making, then ruthlessly abandoned

Oh yes I had forgotten about them.

Oh yes! I remember those ... at some point they were so important and going to navigate us out of this horror of a mess. I imagine Johnson has taken them on his hols as, you know, they are so very important.

God it makes my blood boil how incompetent this government has been from start to ... wherever we are now.

I think it was 3 but then basically forgotten about. I recall 1 meant “no virus at all”. We apparently were never at 5, despite a thousand people a day dying.

@StealthPolarBear

I can't work out if we're supposed to believe whether the R number is important or not.
They keep changing their minds - 1 minute the R number isn't important when cases are so low, the next it's that we must keep it below one (despite most of the country being around or above that now!)

StealthPolarBear · 30/08/2020 07:41

I agree. What I don't understand is why they're not being challenged on the endless about turns.

The R number is published and is still important. The media only like to mention things that are dramatic and "around 1" doesn't sell copy.

The alert level (and the 5 tests) fiasco is hilarious though. Someone in government must have done a lot of paperwork for that big announcement that was immediately forgotten.

I’ve just googled and I can’t find anything about it after June!
