OK I know throughout there's been. Xx up my road hadn't complied, or I saw groups of teens etc. And I'm sure this is everywhere I know I saw a fair bit.

For the last week literally bar queing to get in 1 shop and bits of tape on floors .. Everything has seemed normal.

I've had to go into the city due to kids outgrowing clothes and one of the dc needing a whole new wardrobe as their going away in August with DF. And to get a few odd bits. But I waited until I had to get enough to warrant it.
Once in the shops.. Everything was normal. Maybe saw 30 people in total wearing a mask thought the day.

I did main shop in aldi. They were the only shop monitoring numbers but once in people didn't care.
I had to do tesco for the items un available and baby formula.. No one in the door at all people everywhere and no sanitiser available at door.. I carry my own anyway.

Today I did costco for nappies and meat. Again no que to get in.. Once inside the que with no exaggeration was the length of the shop to pay..

I've driven past parks where parents aren't distancing I know it's hard for kids.
3 people I know have had big garden bbqs.
Hoards of teens gathering at local areas.

I'm not grumpy about it at all because I have no control over others. But the day I got in from town I actually googled if restrictions had been completely eased and I'd missed something because It felt normal.

Oh and 2 workmen doing quotes tried coming in, no ppe or even wanted to sanitise hands!

Yes totally normal where I am

It has been for ages.

People have been breaking lockdown since the start and any social distancing has been impossible

Shop staff have never enforced anything and have openly said they don't care

Where I live it's like nothing is different

Dhalandchips · 17/07/2020 22:53

The heart-sinkingly horrendous traffic is definitely back to normal where I am. Back to 45 minutes for a 20 minute journey. Sad

Qasd · 17/07/2020 23:05

Nope very new normal here!

blurpityblurp · 17/07/2020 23:10

My area never really changed all that much. The street market never closed (often wake up to hear the greengrocer yelling), and one cafe has been operating illegally the entire time. Apart from some people wearing masks and long queues outside the big Tesco for a bit you’d never know there was a pandemic!

peonypower · 17/07/2020 23:25

Where do you all live? Can you say county or region? I'm curious.
I'm rural south central and it's low levels of paranoia. Masks are rare, children all have parties and sleepovers and have done for a month, pub is fairly normal. But nobody is doing dinner parties yet

VenusTiger · 17/07/2020 23:31

I misread your title to read the old normal in the olden days at first OP as my area is like how my parents describe their childhood, it's quiet around here anyway, but so nice when I walk down to the shops and theres about 3 cars and a handful of ppl wandering about.
I can be so antisocial sometimes Grin

DianaT1969 · 17/07/2020 23:47

No. Inner London. Not normal. Lots of masks, queues, people still move apart on pavements. Some smaller are still shops, nail bars and beauty salons closed. Most bars and restaurants still closed.

mum2jakie · 18/07/2020 08:13

No, nowhere near normal here in the Midlands although the queues outside supermarkets haven't been as bad lately.

We still have the majority of staff WFH full time at work so traffic is still not quite as bad as normal either.

Nochangeplease · 18/07/2020 08:18

Central London. Relatively normal here now.

Unfollowtherules · 18/07/2020 08:23

Not normal here. My town centre was chaos yesterday with a one-way pedestrian system, temporary traffic lights and the parking areas all cordoned off for pedestrians. There were queues outside all the shops and a woman sitting on a chair outside the betting shop (not sure if she had brought her own.)

I drove round three times, couldn’t park and went home.

whenwillthemadnessend · 18/07/2020 08:26

Hertfordshire. My town was very normal yesterday

Lifejacket · 18/07/2020 09:15

Very normal here which is worrying as I live in one of the hotspot towns that have been told start wearing masks now etc or may have local lockdown. I went shopping yesterday there was only 2 of us in masks. Obvious breaches of lockdown throughout; kids playing together, people staying over in each others houses, people going for dinner etc throughout.

ASchuylerSister · 18/07/2020 09:20

Pretty normal where I am in the south east. Kids all mixing, some doing sleepovers. Pubs and club houses are busy every weekend.

A few people in masks when out and about. I saw the bus go past yesterday and everyone that I could see had a mask on.

Icanseeclearlynow12 · 18/07/2020 10:24

The pub I work on is certainly back to normal. People coming to the bar to order their drinks and food, screens taken down already, everyone mixing and not much social distancing going on

Tootsey11 · 18/07/2020 10:41

Normal where I am.
Traffic terrible.
Local takeaways have taken the 'only 2 customers at a time' sign down.
No longer anyone manning the doors in Tesco, so everyone just going on in.
As for social distancing, the majority don't know the meaning of it.

StrangeAddiction · 18/07/2020 10:53

Seems normal here.

Apart from some shops having someone count people in or having a limit on the amount of people in the shop at any one time.

My dad works in a call centre and there was 800 staff in the building, ok there's about 3 or 4 floors but with social distancing they really shouldn't be able to fit that many people in Hmm

Derbygerbil · 18/07/2020 11:04

Not really my experience... Been to a pub and restaurant over past week and both were very “Covid aware”. In shops too... about half of people in masks and queues were socially distanced.

Orangeblossom78 · 18/07/2020 11:23

City in SW...not that normal, really...but better recently in terms of Waitrose has stopped it's one way system of marshalling people through, and now is just a queue with two security staff at the front, library has opened itself in a mini version of itself, cafes busy ish outside but quiet in, as everywhere track and trace is in place, some cafes check your temp, only about a third wearing masks and many still meeting in the park.

We have the lowest numbers of any LA however despite being a city, and week before lockdown all shops etc were totally empty.

Orangeblossom78 · 18/07/2020 11:25

Oh, I also saw police doing spot checks on a bar here recently to see if they were doing stuff right, quite a few walking about and also marshals at the kids park making sure it was not too busy and manning the queue, making sure the children all use sanitiser before they enter etc.

But apart from that the atmosphere seems relaxed and in some ways more so, tree climbing used to be not allowed but now seems fine!

tenterden · 18/07/2020 11:41

No not at all normal where I am (South East outside a city)

Restaurants and cafes not full, and many haven't reopened.

Everyone is wearing a mask (quite rightly) and social distancing.

I haven't been in a pub and don't know anyone who has. Most of my friends are still WFH or furloughed still, aside from a couple in retail.

catsjammies · 18/07/2020 11:51

SE London and relatively normal. Just popped to the High St as DD needs new shoes and we were the only ones who hand sanitised on way into shop, only ones wearing masks, and people were literally reaching in front of me to grab things, or bumping into me. V stressful.

I'm going out socially a lot to open spaces with DC but avoiding shops etc.

allfalldown47 · 18/07/2020 11:53

Definitely not!
But then I live in Leicester, the governments experimental plague city Confused

Derbygerbil · 18/07/2020 12:06

All this is why I think it was a good idea to mandate masks. I don’t relish having to wear one and would prefer if we managed it “socially distanced”, but based on this thread, in many places more people are reverting back to “old normal” and that will just lead to Covid coming back.

Lemonmaid · 18/07/2020 12:11

No, still far from it. Vets still not allowing clients in the surgeries, GP surgeries still appointment only, restaurants and pubs open but mostly empty, lots of people wfh.

Train services almost back to normal though.
