Had an appointment booked today and I've been looking forward to it for months.

On arrival I had to have my temperature taken and was told it was too high to be allowed in.

I laughed as I assumed she was joking since I felt fine, I Wfh and haven't been anywhere!!
Not even a supermarket.

She told me it was 37.3 and she would have to cancel my appointment!!!!

I am so upset, I've had to rebook and she has nothing for 8 weeks 😣

I called the Dr as I thought I must be coming down with something without knowing, but the GP told me that this was a normal range temperature and particularly for that time of day (app was 3pm)

So what wasn't I allowed in 😢

I felt like a kid at Christmas today going to the salon, I cried all the way home that my appointment was cancelled! 😖

Go somewhere else. No temperature taken at my hairdressers yesterday.

oakleaffy · 16/07/2020 06:34

I had to have temp taken to get into the Apple shop with ailing laptop.. as I had rushed down on foot I was worried I had raised it by rushing..
I think the salon were just being careful .. I knew if my temp was above 37 degs c I’d not get laptop attended to.. and they had teams of security outside..

nannybeach · 16/07/2020 06:39

40 years nursing NHS, over 37.8 considered pyrexial, HOWEVER my own emp runs arouns 36, I have had seasonal flu one year I couldnt get the vac, at 37.5, I was shivery achy. We used to have to ring a London company for sickness absence, laughable, people answering phone were none medical, and I was told although I had every symptom of flu in the medical textbook, I DIDNT have a fever, and wasnt ill! At 33, yup hypotheria, confusion, DEATH!!! Not all thermometers are made equal, me I prefer the "cooking" thermometer, obviously, be careful placing the probe under you tongue. DH has to take his temp daily before going off to work, he runs at around 35, he freaks out I keep telling him thats his normal. Thermometer says basically anywhere, but his company insist its taken orally.Rectal only normally used for babies or ITU.

slinkysaluki · 16/07/2020 06:48

Go elsewhere and spend your money

ivykaty44 · 16/07/2020 06:48

Temperature taking , as our temperature fluctuates is really not an indicator of whether someone has Covid19

It’s something that’s being done and appeases people to think something is safer

If that’s the hairdressers rules though, that’s the rules and they’ll likely lose business

Op go somewhere else where they don’t take the temperature and book in

lilgreen · 16/07/2020 06:54

Ridiculous. 38+ is a fever. My hairdresser measured mine at 34 which they said was fine. I explained that at 34 I’d be very ill as it’s too low but they were Confused.

bluefoxmug · 16/07/2020 06:54

how did they measure the temp.
our office uses ear or forehead thermometers.
with the ear kind they use 36.9 as cut off, with the 'speed gun' forehead kind 37.5.

lilgreen · 16/07/2020 06:56

Also as others have said it’s one indicator and someone could fake it by taking antipyretics like paracetamol or ibuprofen.

lovemakespeace · 16/07/2020 06:56

That's definitely a totally normal temperature for me. I've taken mine a lot since the pandemic kicked off.

OP I'd definitely find somewhere else because if it was me then in 8 weeks time you could well be in exactly the same position.

ihatelockdown · 16/07/2020 07:01

Oh for goodness sake hairdressers have only been open less than 2 weeks! She is not going to risk closing again after having over 4 months off work!
It doesn't really matter what you think is a raised temp or not, she's protecting her business and livelihood!

Greggers2017 · 16/07/2020 07:03

@heartsonacake you do realise some of these people advising you May be medical professionals? You are very very wrong about the temps in your office and I'd be seriously worried you are at risk as none of those temps will be right.

Rangoon · 16/07/2020 07:03

I just love the poster saying 35 degrees was high and it's all okay because it's a multinational. It just defies medical science as we know it. Also, no way would I use a shared thermometer during a pandemic, sleeve or no sleeve. I myself am going to the hairdresser tomorrow but there is no temperature checking because after the lockdown from hell we have had 75 days free of community transmission in our country. In fact, the only people in the country with Covid are hopefully secured in quarantine and even they are either citizens or permanent residents returning.

Whenwillthisbeover · 16/07/2020 07:06

Tbh, a hairdresser that thinks they know more than a doctor, I guess it’s their rules, but it’s your money. I would go somewhere else, forever.

LadyofTheManners · 16/07/2020 07:06

Don't worry OP, stupidity that like and cancelling appointments, they won't have a business to unnecessarily block people from for long.
Vote with your feet and go elsewhere, and if they have a reviews page online warn others.

thesunisup · 16/07/2020 07:07

My hairdresser took mine yesterday and said they'd not had to turn anyone away as yet. No idea what it read as

lilgreen · 16/07/2020 07:08

My hairdresser was holding the gun at a metre distance and produced the low reading of 34. Turned out it was supposed to be held at 2 inches. Confused

Pikachubaby · 16/07/2020 07:08

Ludicrous, that is within normal Confused

People have lost the plot completely

Veterinari · 16/07/2020 07:09

My point is that different institutions define fevers differently. Some institutions do define between 37.0 and 37.5 as a low-grade fever.
Which institutions @3cats ?

At the moment it seems to be just you and the OP's hairdresser. No medical institutions.

merrytombombadil · 16/07/2020 07:10

I'd be more worried that you wasted your GP's time asking about something that a quick Google could confirm was nothing much to worry about - imagine if every person with a low grade fever and no other symptoms rang their GP.

Veterinari · 16/07/2020 07:11

@missmcfee
I'd ring them at tell them that you've checked your temp multiple times and spoken to the doctor.

They'll likely have plenty of short-notice cancellations if their cut off is 37c as they'll have to turn lots of people away so ask them to ring you with one of these

Yamaya · 16/07/2020 07:11

That's crazy. You didn't have a fever! My normal temperature is always above 37...that's totally normal! If it was 37.7 or something (which is normal for me before my period starts) I could maybe understand. But you were nowhere near feverish. They are going to be turning a lot of people away and if they are that nervous maybe they shouldn't be reopening.

verybritishproblems · 16/07/2020 07:13

They can deny anyone access just like you can now find another salon Wink

You could complain though and tell them they have their stats wrong but at the same time, maybe them turning their customers away incorrectly will bite them when they don’t come back...

betteliefsen · 16/07/2020 07:13

Yabu, you weren't being allowed in because you had a temperature. Your supposed right to a hair appointment is nothing compared to her business and loss of income. Get a grip.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 16/07/2020 07:14

I thoroughly enjoyed this thread; everything from the under the tongue temp. checking when entering a business 👀, rectal measurements to the —clearly crap— multinational company equipment 😂

MoreW1ne · 16/07/2020 07:17

I'd find a different salon. Appreciate they're putting in place precautions but if 37.3 is one of them who knows what other over exaggerated things they'll have in place inside.

In all likelihood they'll adapt and realise their mistake and probably change it over next 8 weeks. Call them up and query it and see their response, but personally I'd go elsewhere. You never know might be an opportunity to find somewhere better.
