If masks are made mandatory in England, will this put you off high street shopping?

Yes

SwedishEdith · 13/07/2020 21:28

Not at all. Why would it? Would make me use it more. At the moment, I think far too many dickheads around, shop online.

ContessaferJones · 13/07/2020 21:30

@UmbrellaHat

No - it's the way I'm shopping already! The kids have their own masks as well and have loudly passed comment on how the infection risk goes down if you wear them, while staring fixedly at people who aren't What deeply unpleasant children.
They are a work in progress, admittedly. They can't quite grasp the fact that people out in the world aren't following the same safety rules as they are.

No I am all for it, no one is keeping there distance and feel it’s ok to just brush past you or lean over you to get stuff. So for this reason I buy online and avoid the high street plus I do not want to queue for each and every shop I want to go in.

Why would a face mask negate the need to queue? Social distancing will remain in place.

No.
I’d be likely to go shopping more.

I had a proper girly shopping trip with my teenage daughter last week and we both needed it for our mental health and just doing something normal lifted our spirits. We were out most of the day and had lunch in a small Italian family restaurant. We felt safe with the way shops were operating and used gel in each shop that had it provided at the entrance.

This would not have been normal if we had to wear masks so my answer is yes! It would not be the same for us and we would revert back to shopping online.

I'd say roughly 50:50. So what will BJ do!! He cannot risk putting people off shopping...

ivykaty44 · 13/07/2020 21:40

It would make me feel more inclined to return to the high street

MarshaBradyo · 13/07/2020 21:40

I thought he had decided today to make them mandatory, working out how to enforce it

Happygirl79 · 13/07/2020 21:44

I don't mind wearing a face mask but avoid high street shopping because of the queues

ivykaty44 · 13/07/2020 21:44

I will add I have been to M&S and I popped my mask on before entering the shop, to me it feels better to try and keep others safe - jyst incase I’m carrying the virus I know then I’ve done all I can

I’ll wear the masks regardless of whether I have to & im asthmatic, but my mask doesn’t seem to affect my breathing

AlecTrevelyan006 · 13/07/2020 21:45

It's all very well those people saying "just a wear a mask". It is clear that many people will simply choose not to go somewhere where they are required to wear one. So it is entirely contradictory for the government to say get back to work, go to the shops etc. and then make something compulsory that discourages many people from doing so. Particularly so when they've been saying exactly the opposite for the last few months.

Boredsilly · 13/07/2020 21:45

No I think it will make me feel safer

openplankitchen · 13/07/2020 21:46

@MarshaBradyo I think as always he was avoiding answering the question. Watch this space etc.

I'm sure this thread will be read amongst many others before a decision is made!

emilybrontescorsett · 13/07/2020 21:47

No

openplankitchen · 13/07/2020 21:48

@AlecTrevelyan006 exactly this...

daisypond · 13/07/2020 21:50

No, it would make me feel safer and I’d be more likely to use the high street.

caramelbun · 13/07/2020 21:51

Uhoh2020 · 13/07/2020 21:54

I'm asthmatic I wore a mask last week for GP appointment immediately felt suffocated and panicky ( not normally claustrophobic). I've no issue with them being compulsory if they need to be but I will be more inclined to shop online instead. I have never been a real fan of high street shopping anyway so it's no big issue or change for me to shop online

Legoandloldolls · 13/07/2020 21:58

No. I would still go shopping but I'm of the mindset that I wont be browsing anymore anyway. If I need something I will go out. If not then I'm not planning on going out just for a look anyway. I cant wear a mask for over a hour because I just find it too hard to breath normally. But a quick pop into town for a handful of shops is fine. I'm getting more familary with the nearest big out of town M&S where I can shop until late evening

I'm really sad to hear of all these businesses folding. I dont think will have many shops left soon.

Lovelydovey · 13/07/2020 21:59

I very rarely used shopping centres and am unlikely to go to one now - I do most of that sort of shopping online. I will wear a mask to use shops on my high street though - butchers, bakers, florist, greengrocer, post office etc.
