When will 1m rule be scrapped?

My workplace has said we will be WFH until the 1m rule is scrapped. When do you think that’ll be? Surely it won’t be this year?

When Boris thinks we need to just ignore it to save pret? Non of this is led by science.

NotEverythingIsBlackandWhite · 12/07/2020 19:54

The rule has only been '1 metre + mitigating factors' since 4th July. There is no point in speculation. Nobody on MN knows whether it will be this year, next year, or whenever.

DebLou47 · 12/07/2020 21:13

Boris said he wants to try and get back to normal in 9 months so I would say that

Needcoffeecoffeecoffee · 12/07/2020 21:16

We are still at 2m
Or where this cant be done 1m and mitigating
I wouldn't think it will be before Christmas but then I'm sure boris will want more "bustle" for Christmas so will immediately ignore all science and risk

Shieldingending · 12/07/2020 21:16

Miraculously in late August so that schools can be told to operate normally?

Mnhealth202020 · 12/07/2020 21:18

When the magical r number goes down further I guess - no idea when that will happen though

We've got a winter to get through first. If we try and 'get back to normal' before then we'll have a harsh lockdown because the NHS won't cope.

OhhhPeee · 12/07/2020 21:33

I think they’ll be an announcement in August, assuming no big spike in the next few weeks. Then schools can go back as was in September.

ArchbishopOfBanterbury · 12/07/2020 21:33

When there is a vaccine, or, when winter flu season is over, I'd guess.

Oblomov20 · 12/07/2020 21:36

There will be no big spike. None of the previous spikes have materialised.

Lindy2 · 12/07/2020 21:40

Well seeing as most clusters of cases seem to be where workplaces haven't kept to social distancing (Leicester textile factories, food packaging plants etc) I think the 1m plus needs to be here for a long time yet.

ginsparkles · 12/07/2020 21:42

Until after winter. It's been said often that social distancing will be with us for some time. Also we are not at 1m. We are at 2m wherever possible and if it's not possible there should be mitigation (masks, screens etc)

When there’s a working vaccine or enough herd immunity.

Cupcakegirl13 · 12/07/2020 21:43

Schools are already cleared to go back without distancing so that’s a moot point

FelicityPike · 12/07/2020 21:43

Whenever it’s introduced. It’s still 2 meters.

FelicityPike · 12/07/2020 21:43

*Depends not whenever.

OhhhPeee · 12/07/2020 21:59

Schools are clear to go back without distancing if they follow the bubble model - the removal of distancing would allow them to operate completely normally, not with the logistical nightmare that bubbles present.

Derbygerbil · 12/07/2020 22:21

Agreed. When the US opened up a month or so back there wasn’t a spike.... The reported figures indicate there is, but that’s fake news....

scaevola · 12/07/2020 22:41

Not before spring.

There are considerable uncertainties over the autumn/winter virus season, so I doubt very much there will be any further changes to the current stipulation of 2m, or if you have to get closer then +mitigation

Millicent10 · 12/07/2020 23:11

What type of work is your workplace? I work in an office and we are adhering to 2m. I have also realised that 1m is pretty standard, we don’t really get within 1m of another unless we are being intimate or living with that person.

MintyMabel · 12/07/2020 23:42

Can there be a spike when it hadn’t started to fall? Or is that just a continuous rise?

Pixxie7 · 13/07/2020 04:05

I guess it will be once a vaccine is widely available.

PhilCornwall1 · 13/07/2020 04:41

Hopefully it will be, no bugger does it anyway, not that it worries me to be honest.
