Holidays - will you be booking one?

Just wondering what people are intending to do about holidays. When the government announce the air bridges/travel corridors will you be booking a holiday?
Do you think it is wise?

Yes. But in our country of residence. So no international travel..

40somethingJBJ · 27/06/2020 17:23

I’ve moved our uk holiday to next year, as we were due to go in 3 weeks. Booked for the Netherlands at the end of August, but I’ve not booked the ferry yet, and not sure whether I’m going to. It’s a eurocamp type place, so will be packed out, and I don’t really fancy that. I’m hoping to get away in the caravan a bit over the summer holidays, and hoping I can ferry over to Spain in October to visit my friend who will be living there. Wouldn’t fancy a plant at the minute, but I hate flying anyway, so I don’t need much of an excuse to drive instead! If I could find a dog friendly cottage in a quiet area with easily accessible walks from the doorstep (I’m a mobility scooter user), and where I’m unlikely to have to be amongst people, I’d book it, but not fancying anywhere busy this year.

I'm happy to not holiday this year. It's just what it is

SoTiredNeedHoliday · 27/06/2020 17:49

Annabel you seriously think the majority of people on furlough i.e 80% of their usual salary have sat at home and now have money to spend? Especially the 'type' of people you have decided to make your post about?

I'd say that that are more in debt than ever as they still have bills to pay and who know if they will have a job to come back to once furlough ends.....

I don't understand how anyone can have that perspective

Just a warning if anyone needs their passport renewing - I've heard lots of people are waiting several months.

ineedaholidaynow · 27/06/2020 18:04

For those who don’t like masks it looks like masks will have to be worn for a large part of a Spanish holiday including walking along the beach.

Lemmylemming · 27/06/2020 18:21

No. Cancelled our UK chalet park type holiday as all the fun stuff will be closed (pool) or much less fun (theme parks, indoor attractions, restaurants). We will go to a second home owned by a family member for a few days of different scenery and beaches (not particularly special ones, they won’t be busy). Added bonus it just costs the petrol to get there and we know who’s been in it and when.

Longdistance · 27/06/2020 18:26

We hadn’t booked a summer holiday, but we’ll be staying in Suffolk and Norfolk at the end of August.

SorrelForbes · 28/06/2020 07:09

@SoTiredNeedHoliday Yes, we only ever stay in places with a private pool.

Thewheelsonthebus23 · 28/06/2020 07:12

We already had a self catering place booked in Wales at the end of July. That’s still going ahead and the final payment has been paid.

MummaGiles · 28/06/2020 07:15

We are having a UK weekend break

Squigglypig2 · 28/06/2020 07:17

I renewed my passport at the end of June online, first time I'd done it taking a selfie. It literally took 1 week from making the application and sending my old passport back to receiving it in the post. Text messages recieved at each stage. I was really impressed.

We're going to France to stay on campsites for a couple of weeks. It was originally going to be a large family trip but the extended family can't/don't want to go so we changed the location. I'm a bit worried about how it will feel but then again We're in London so it'll just be nice to be in countryside and have access to water parks etc, even if we'll be limiting trips to the hypermarche.

Roselilly36 · 28/06/2020 07:26

No shielded until Aug. Certainly wouldn’t want to fly, even a UK break seems hassle at the moment. We have written off the idea of a holiday until 21.

GADDay · 28/06/2020 07:29

We are being told that international borders here in Australia may not open until June 2021 Shock.

We are holidaying locally for the foreseeable.

No, we cancelled our week abroad next month

Last thing we need is MORE time together! Seriously, with two teenagers we now just need space from each other.....

Whistle73 · 28/06/2020 07:31

We're off to the Canaries at the beginning of August and have always intended to go if we can.

I'm honestly not worried about it at all.

We're staying in a Villa and I'm sure we will have a brilliant time. The kids deserve it after being royally shafted in all this.

Just a note on travel insurance - our annual policy renewed in June and covers Covid for holidays booked before March. We booked back in November so we are covered.

Ragwort · 28/06/2020 07:41

I wouldn't want to go abroad this year, we lost our holiday to Greece (early June) & have been promised a full refund in September ... not sure why it takes so long but hopefully we will get that.
We have a week in Cornwall end of August, it's through our 'Time Share' arrangement so hasn't actually 'cost' us a lot of money so hoping that will still be OK.

BighouseLittlemouse · 28/06/2020 07:49

lemons1571 when my travel insurance renewed it specifically removed cover for covid from that point forwards.

If anyone does want cover for cancellation due to covid Trailfinders is now offering it. Policies obviously more expensive than usual but might be worth it if get single trip ( it seems to cover for self isolation etc but do check!)

hopeishere · 28/06/2020 08:03

I really really want to but DH is very vulnerable so doesn't want to go on a plane. We've a house booked for July and we will probably book a hotel stay for August.

Will see what the situation is like in October for mid-term.

I actually don't mind UK holidays apart from the shit weather.

Darcydashwood · 28/06/2020 08:06

We’ve booked a cottage in a fairly remote part of the country towards the end of August. There’s beaches but it’s not a seaside type destination - more rugged coastal walks etc so hoping it won’t be too busy. There’s pubs etc but a few takeaway options - Fish & Chips etc if so easy to keep ourselves to ourselves as we know the area well. Hopefully get to go abroad next year as missed 2 trips during lockdown. Definitely didn’t fancy a flight with a 5 year old having to wear a mask and hotels etc don’t appeal at the moment. But wanted to get away somewhere.

cliffdiver · 28/06/2020 08:06

Pre Covid-19, we had a week in Cape Verde booked for October HT. DH thinks we'll be able to go - I'm not so sure.

We'll try and book a UK camping holiday for August.

cliffdiver · 28/06/2020 08:08

I tested positive for COVID last week, DH and DDs have had mild symptoms - which makes me feel slightly more relaxed about potentially going away (providing you can't contract COVID more than once!).

MsTSwift · 28/06/2020 08:09

Assumed not as were interrailing but now considering adapting trip and going by car. Long drive but doable if we break it up. England will be so crowded if majority holiday here. Wouldn’t fly though

LovingLen · 28/06/2020 09:14

No, because I can’t be bothered with all the faff with it, queueing, wearing masks, etc. sorting out insurance, wondering what will be open. We are going away in our touring caravan in the UK instead.
