My friend has just said she's not rushing into anything /going anywhere for the rest of the year.
Do you think Lockdown is over too fast ?

OP posts:
Jrobhatch29 · 24/06/2020 14:00

No there isn't. My best friend has lost her job in a caravan park and cannot find a job anywhere. After the initial intake in supermarkets there is now very limited jobs. People are being laid off not taken on.

RightIsRight · 24/06/2020 14:09

@Devlesko

Ha Ha, government funding for NHS and education, now i know you're taking the piss, what funding, they cut it all.
They’ve never cut funding to the NHS. Stop listening to labour.
Livpool · 24/06/2020 14:14

It's been 3 months already - is that not lib enough?!

Jobs need to be protected so of course things have to open and get the economy moving.

Plus - if there is another spike better to be now than winter

FizzFan · 24/06/2020 14:21

You can buy whatever you want online, hence the economy hasn't been affected, much.

PMSL. You clearly know as much about economics as I do about nuclear physics, which is the square root of fuck all. You might want to listen to the Bank of England and the U.K. Treasury occasionally as well as scientists. Utterly clueless.

Devlesko · 24/06/2020 14:31

We've plenty round here, pages and pages on reed, Monster, cv library, etc.
Applied for dozens myself. You might not be able to pick and choose but they're there. Have a look yourself.

Sandybval · 24/06/2020 14:38

Run of the mill jobs here are attracting 80+ applicants. Good luck with that. The fact you have applied for dozens implied you haven't been successful, like many other people. I think you're being purposefully obtuse, but just in case you aren't, let's hope you don't get a job in a shop, you'll just be pouring scorn on all of the capitalists spending money there.

hashtagbollocks · 24/06/2020 14:41

Joelle
are you planning on not letting grandparents see your baby till a vaccine is developed.
Possibly next Spring or later?
Can i ask why? Has your child been born with a condition which makes them very vulnerable?
can i also ask, are these your parents or parents in law ( a tenner says I know the answer already)

Devlesko · 24/06/2020 14:49

Sandybval

i only just started, give them chance to receive/ check cv Grin

Fizzfan Why, I don't want a job in economics, it doesn't interest me in the slightest. But we are all different, with different views, opinions, and values.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 24/06/2020 14:49

@Devlesko

Of course I'm serious, Amazon are advertising for drivers, people are buying as usual. I've heard numerous in life and on here say they are treating themselves with money saved from childcare and commuting, and I don't blame them. People are buying and will continue to, unless of course they lose their job. It's all a smoke screen to get you all out working and spending, and guinea pigs. "Oh, look at the poor economy" "Get to work, risk your lives, proles" Grin
You are seriously deluded
Stellakent · 24/06/2020 14:51

I've lost my job due to Corona. I'm well qualified and have applied for lots of jobs including jobs in supermarkets, offices etc. I haven't had so much as an interview. It's not easy at the moment.

The economy and health can not be separated. A good economy is vital.

FizzFan · 24/06/2020 14:54

Same here, @Stellakent.

Seriously, people don’t give highly qualified professionals jobs as drivers and warehouse packers. They just don’t. They know we’ll keep looking around and drop them in it with no notice when we get something better.

FizzFan · 24/06/2020 14:55

it doesn't interest me in the slightest

Might be best to stop spouting rot about the economy “barely being affected” by lockdown then.

cushioncovers · 24/06/2020 14:59

When will people realise that lockdown was NOT to stop people getting it (including the shielded) it was to prevent the NHS being overwhelmed. The peak has gone, the NHS was not overwhelmed. Job done.

^^ this.

Devlesko · 24/06/2020 15:00

Alec
Come on, as a society you consume much more than any other time in history, it's permanent, no making do, these days, buy a new one. If you don't have the money, don't worry get it on tick.
People don't like not being able to buy things and thin themselves hard done by, because they earn the money and the right to spend it.
When times were much harder and people bought much less, not only was the planet not suffering from so much waste, people didn't have to work so much for what they needed.
I just live very much like people used to, so the economy doesn't bother me.

IcedPurple · 24/06/2020 15:05

I just live very much like people used to, so the economy doesn't bother me

People used to live very precariously, with no universal healthcare or education. You enjoy both of these and much more, thanks to high or mid-level earners subsidising you through your taxes. And some of that wealth will be generated by people buying the 'stuff' you turn your nose up at.

Oh, and if you live such a traditional life, how come you've got a computer connected to the internet? That's not how people 'used to live', is it? Why don't you go back to telegrams and snail mail?

FizzFan · 24/06/2020 15:07

the economy doesn't bother me.

You never use healthcare? Have your bins emptied? Use any public services? You won’t be claiming an old age pension?

Hairydilemma · 24/06/2020 15:17

When will people realise that lockdown was NOT to stop people getting it (including the shielded) it was to prevent the NHS being overwhelmed. The peak has gone, the NHS was not overwhelmed. Job done.

This is true, of course. But my personal objective differs from the government’s objective - it’s to prevent me or my family from getting it, as far as possible of course, realise nothing’s risk-free.

So for me, everything’s opening up too fast - but I can appreciate that the government’s priorities aren’t the same as my own. I won’t be changing anything I’ve been doing any time soon (and I do also appreciate that this involves others having to work, as they have throughout).

I also realise that ‘the economy‘ is pretty vital to lives and livelihoods, and to essential services. So we can’t continue to exist in a state of permanent lockdown.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 24/06/2020 15:33

People most certainly are not buying as usual. I work in manufacturing for retailers and I have been on furlough since March, there is no work.

shinynewapple2020 · 24/06/2020 16:10

@LondonJax where do you get the idea that people can't go to second homes? People are allowed to stay overnight at places not their first home and in cottages and caravans. Second homes will be included in this.

Devlesko · 24/06/2020 16:43

Fizz

I'm not aware of any of the services mentioned stopping during lockdown.
They still continued, a water leak up the road was still attended to. Bins were still emptied none of them lost their jobs.

IcedPurple
I never said any different, that's my point like you said people are buying. The economy will soon pick up, people like earning and buying Grin I don't turn my nose up at anyone buying stuff, as you say it keeps the economy going.

Uhoh2020 · 24/06/2020 17:03

Oh @Delesko are you really that naive? Seriously? The mind boggles it really does, as the old saying goes you cant argue with stupid! Anyway you go back to your non tax paying and no buying anything ever life , I hope its nice for you up there in cuckoo land !

Jrobhatch29 · 24/06/2020 17:12

Huge drop in positive cases today! In the 600s.

Devlesko · 24/06/2020 17:15

Uhoh

You are the second person on here who suggested I'm in cuckoo land, guess I'm just different. It is nice here though, no stress, or worry and quite laid back.

Dowser · 24/06/2020 17:20

In reply to the opening sentence
Not opening fast enough

I mean, why announce pubs, hotels etc can open on July 4
If it’s good enough today to announce that..then it’s good enough to get everything open from midnight last night

AlecTrevelyan006 · 24/06/2020 17:21

You are bonkers.

unemployment has already more than doubled and that’s with millions still furloughed, many of whom are likely to lose their job in the coming months. The economy is in dire straits.
