My friend has just said she's not rushing into anything /going anywhere for the rest of the year.
Do you think Lockdown is over too fast ?

OP posts:
ToothFairyNemesis · 23/06/2020 21:39

@FizzFan it’s 1:1700 not 1:2700

blue25 · 23/06/2020 21:49

Yes most people I know are continuing to largely stay at home.

I’m being very cautious. Not risking my health for a pint or a trip to the cinema.

HateIsNotGood · 23/06/2020 21:49

No - pretty bang on with the timing. CV19 hasn't gone away but then neither have we and 'we' have to get on with life and start to provide our own 'sustenance' before all our 'stocks' are depleted.

At least now we are prepared, on a societal level, to deal with local outbreaks as they occur.

annabel85 · 23/06/2020 21:50

I'm not sure they really want the tracking system running too well anyway. The economy is prioritised but if all these people are having to self isolate all the time then that's a lot of sick days.

joan04 · 23/06/2020 22:02

no that’s incorrect , if there are 1:1700 people with Covid19 statistically you won’t meet 1699 without Covid19 first. That’s not how it works.

Indeed, there's barely any community transmission and most Covid is in care homes and hospital settings so it's probably closer to 1 in 10,000+ people out there actually have Covid.

ToothFairyNemesis · 23/06/2020 22:51

@joan04 you misunderstood my point, you would need to come into contact with only about 851 people before you meet someone with Covid.

FizzFan · 23/06/2020 22:56

@toothfairynemesis education secretary today said 2000 people have it which in a country of 5400000 people is 1 in 2700. I’m in Scotland

ToothFairyNemesis · 23/06/2020 23:13

Ok, in England it’s 1:1700.

MayFayre · 23/06/2020 23:15

I think opening pubs is a mistake. Social distancing won’t happen when people have had a few drinks.

SusieOwl4 · 23/06/2020 23:50

Just because because have opened Up pubs does not mean you have to go?

Or shops .

Listen to the CMO .

If we are all sensible it could be ok. Go mad and a disaster.

Nobodyputsdaisyinthecorner · 23/06/2020 23:52

Yes. Too much at once which allows no chance to see what caused rises. And with poor track and trace in place and no app it’s hard to know where infections are.

Reckless.

Each to their own view but I have much sympathy for those now being forced back to work etc when they don’t feel safe. We don’t all have the luxury to keep as safe as we please.

MrsPerks · 24/06/2020 00:01

Or to think about it another way, there are over 1700 people attending my child's secondary school every day,.

fessmess · 24/06/2020 06:37

Bol87 I agree. It is NOT FLU.

To those who are glad to be going to pubs again, I am glad your fun trumps our health.

sashagabadon supermarkets can do social distancing much, much easier. Supermarket workers do not collect dirty plates and glasses. They do not serve people at a bar (deli counters are shut). People do not mill around supermarkets. And the most important point? People in shops do not get pissed. HTH

fessmess · 24/06/2020 06:40

Oh and the arrogance of "don't go then, quit". Are YOU paying my rent then?? This is about the economy and fuck all to do with health.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 24/06/2020 06:43

fessmess but everyone needs to get back to work. Do you expect just to continue to get furlough pay indefinitely?

fessmess · 24/06/2020 06:50

YES! Not on furlough forever, just until it has died down and not at a 1000 new cases a day. We have the third highest death total globally. Some SAGE members are up in arms about this opening up of hospitality. IMO it is unsafe.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 24/06/2020 06:52

But it might not die down until there is a vaccine. The country can't afford to pay furlough until then.

fessmess · 24/06/2020 06:54

Another 3 weeks perhaps? I don't know but it doesn't have to be 3rd July or never!

fessmess · 24/06/2020 06:54

4th not 3rd!

Nixen · 24/06/2020 07:00

Well my friend who is a general manager of a pub has just been made redundant. Perhaps you’d prefer that option @fessmess?

Waxonwaxoff0 · 24/06/2020 07:02

But the problem is, the longer places stay closed the less likely it is that they will reopen. A lot of pubs don't make much money as it is, the industry will never recover if we keep them closed for too long.

Sandybval · 24/06/2020 07:02

Yes @fessmess can't wait to get back to the pub, thanks for reopening.

Pixxie7 · 24/06/2020 07:03

A bit, but the economy needs us to open up. Hopefully people will continue to be cautious.

Stellakent · 24/06/2020 07:08

Not everyone who goes to a pub goes to get pissed.

Jrobhatch29 · 24/06/2020 07:11

Some people do not understand how the economy works. The people banging on about a second wave in the winter do not seem to realise we need money flowing in the country now to fund the services we would need if there was a second wave.
It is also peoples livelihoods and how they pay for their mortgage/rent and buy food. The people who think we should stay in lockdown forever obviously are in the privelaged position of not relying on an income or ever actually having to consider how important the economy is to our everyday health and wellbeing
