Not sure how I feel about having this download on my phone without my permission. How about you?

On mine too but not my husbands. Mine automatically updates.

lootsharks · 20/06/2020 09:35

It's on my phone and it's not in the list of apps that I can uninstall either Angry

lootsharks · 20/06/2020 09:39

@tubbatops

I always have bluetooth & location settings off so I assume I need to turn them on now
No, you don't need to. You might choose to, unfortunately this spamware didn't give me the choice to have it installed on my phone.
dementedpixie · 20/06/2020 09:39

Thats because its not an app

ChasingRainbows19 · 20/06/2020 09:40

It's not an app. It's a phone setting that allows an app to work. You need an app for it. If you don't download an app it won't do anything.

notacooldad · 20/06/2020 09:41

Holy cow it's on mine too, what an invasion of privacy. I'll start leaving my phone at home when I go out then.
😂😂😂

lootsharks · 20/06/2020 09:45

@TuckMyWin

Dear god. It's just a software update to enable apps to work properly with your phone IF you download them. If you don't want software updates then turn off automatic download, but then don't expect to get any bug fixes either.
The apps on my phone work perfectly thank you. They don't need an update which adds in covid tracing functionality which may or may not work and may or may not compromise my privacy. I'd no sooner trust this government to protect my privacy than I would to stop ice cream melting in the sun.

It's not spam ware and you agreed to it.

Chaotic45 · 20/06/2020 09:45

Fantastic! I'm delighted to see we are moving towards being able to have a working app that will help identify and shut down coronavirus outbreaks.

I've nothing to hide and everything to gain from reducing the grip that corona has on the lives of people I care about, and society as a whole.

Nothing untoward has happened here, apple regularly adds APIs that are needed for other functionality to work. My health app changes all the time, and I can turn things on and off as I see fit, nothing is automatically on unless I set it as such.

No vaccine is forthcoming, the virus is not going away, all we can do is try to control it before it ravages more lives, imprisons vulnerable and elderly people for longer, removes education, looses jobs and livelihoods and bankrupts the entire country.

Some people don't follow the rules, others have no interest in using track and trace or apps. These people drive infection rates up. But, in contrast those of us who follow the rules and comply with T&T have a real chance to get things under control. I just hope that there are enough of help latter to counter the actions of the former.

I didn't know it was on my phone so how have I consented to it?

My phone is not set to update automatically, I did not tell it to update and yet it has appeared on my phone.

bubbleup · 20/06/2020 09:48

It's not on mine

nicky7654 · 20/06/2020 09:49

yep its on mine and I certainly didn't allow it. Some of you go to settings then type in covid and it will come up.

Chaotic45 · 20/06/2020 09:50

There are a few simple things that speak volumes about a person in my book:
Dropping litter

Not calling out prejudice

Not recycling

Taking the last biscuit without asking if anyone else would like it

Refusing to cooperate with T&T due to privacy concerns or as a stick to beat the government with when in actual fact they are simply prolonging the misery and hardship of almost every other human in our country.

Fallsballs · 20/06/2020 09:51

Well that’s your opinion Chaotic45. It’s not about ‘nothing to hide’ but this has always been an argument going on since computers were invented.
I also think the patronising attitude of some posters insulting people who aren’t up to their standard of perceived tech savvy a bit naff. Get a grip, we are humans so we think differently.

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 20/06/2020 09:51

Nothing on my phone but I would be happy to have the app when it’s available in my area.....

LovingLen · 20/06/2020 09:54

Maybe Android is different but you certainly don't have to update Apple if you don't want to, I usually check out an update first though because iirc Apple had one for HomePod which bricked them so always best to check there hasn't been problems. Anyone doing this with Apple would have seen the api before updating.

Cherrysoup · 20/06/2020 09:55

On my phone, how weird!

dementedpixie · 20/06/2020 09:55

Apparently it was on the IOS 13.5 update for iPhone

CorianderLord · 20/06/2020 09:59

@fivefoottwoeyesofblue

Yes, because it's on my phone. See?

I don't really mind but it is real.

CorianderLord · 20/06/2020 10:01

Anyone remember when the entire U2 album was added to everyone's music? Same hysteria. Honestly I really don't care what Apple see. There's nothing dodgy on my phone and I'm not that bothered about 'privacy' (is there any in today's world)?

WeAllHaveWings · 20/06/2020 10:03

It's just a new setting/feature from Apple(or Google), came down in the last update like any new function would. It won't be used unless you load an app and switch it on. Nothing to be concerned about and nothing to do with UK governments failed app.

WhatWouldYouDoWhatWouldJesusDo · 20/06/2020 10:03

It's on mine too. The cheeky fuckers 😳

GabsAlot · 20/06/2020 10:04

Miseryl · 20/06/2020 10:05
