Possibly a stupid question but is there a way to look up who is hosting the daily briefing? I don't want to miss the Gavin Williamson announcement

It’s ridiculous. The education and mental health of our children is so far down the list of priorities. But hey the footies back on.

First thing I’ve seen on the Govt’s plan for educational catch up & it seems the main ambition is to bring tutors into school to work with children who have fallen behind. Scheme will run for a year. Let’s hope school opens and remains open from Sept. Will be interesting to see what proportion of pupils it will be targeted at as there are a lot of pupils not in school.

Shielded here and waiting for an update this week.

The sun news website usually leaks who is doing the briefing around 11.30am each day, they seem to be the earliest and so far have been fairly accurate I’ve found. I don’t find it easy to find on their site, I have to google search ‘who is holding the press briefing today uk’ and include the days date.

Schools don’t need tutors run by private (Tory-owned?) tutoring companies. Give the money directly to heads and they can pay their existing teachers to run catch up sessions after school if they want to?

Cancel staff meetings and department meetings for a term!

I thought the abandoning of shielding (level 1 on the scale) on 4July has been rpdenied as just rumour?

The shielding announcement really needs to be made - they've known for 12 weeks that the future of 2.5 million people needed updating in late June. A definite date rather than just 'shortly' would be a start.

Also any announcement on schools needs a simultaneous announcement on educational provision for shielded DC. They are exceptionally vulnerable and living in considerable isolation. They really must not be shafted educationally as well, and should not be expected to hang on in uncertainty for another announcement 'shortly'

Surely if the government was going to pay for tutors, they should expand the existing programme of home tutoring for those uanble to attend school for medical reasons to included shielded DC (and those who live with someone who is shielding and isolation within household is not possible)

But how does that work for GCSE and A level pupils?

Shielded staff is also a big issue in my school. We have every non-shielding member of staff back and working their full time hours now-and with them, we can still only manage KW children and one of the priority year groups back.

For us to open any further, we will need all of those shielding members of staff back OR the government to pay for the wages of their replacements (Presuming those shielding will remain on full pay). We would also need to know now, so we have time to advertise and recruit.

We are a small school with an unusually high proportion of shielding staff, but we will need a solution. We have a deficit budget so simply have no money to spare.

Shielding is currently due to end June 30th, rumours hit the press it was to be extended to end of July and this has been denied.

I would hope that shielded staff remain on full pay, this is one of the reasons the shielded are desperate to be updated, financial threat, job security. Employers need to know to ensure they can risk assess and make needed adjustments or arrange cover. The shielded having to choose paying the mortgage over their health when they are being told they are likely to die or be extremely ill if they catch the virus would be an appalling situation. The gov needs to put something in place to protect all those impacted by the shielding guidance, its not just the shielded affected.

"Shielding is currently due to end June 30th, rumours hit the press it was to be extended to end of July and this has been denied"

Yes it has been denied because it has already been extended into August in other home nations. Lifting shielding is explicitly mentioned on the Nando's scale as Level 1. Does anyone really think we are so securely at low level 2 that ending shielding can be contemplated?

Plenty of employers seem too.

I can't see it myself, but I would like to see an update to the issues that it is causing a lot of people, as its really not as simple as just stay home, the difficulties are wide and varied. I belong to several groups for shielding people so I see a lot of the anxieties, fears and issues people are facing. I'd also like to see how they plan to ease it as our risk levels drop, will they just send everyone back to work or will there be a gradual introduction of normality.

Scotlands extension is end of July, Wales is mid August, so that also raises a question between timelines.

Its interesting to see how each nation is doing things, gives a more all round picture.

I suspect that the questions at today's conference will be about Raab's comments about taking a knee rather than more serious issues like shielding.

Just seen Bojo watching the arrows with Macron. I'd love another proper update...

The extension to 4 weeks, is it coincidental that Boris is watching the red arrows with Macron so wouldn't have been free today to do the briefing.

Instead we have Dildo and Handjob
