Today I broke the rules

First time since 21st March. Shielding mum who is very poorly. I didn’t realise how bad it had got due to shielding.
Long story short she has been in hospital on and off last few weeks due to and pain in leg. She is alone and is an end stage renal patient, had stroke and heart attack in past 2 years. Tomorrow the are amputating her leg. She is devastated and so confused. Her chances of surviving are not great.
I was allowed finally to see her for a short time in a private room. I cuddled her several times as she cried. I looked at her black foot knowing what she is about to go through alone and cuddled the hell out of her. She has had Covid tests and is clear and I have been following all guidance. Even the nurse said to me on the quiet when you go in the room let her see you, cuddle her she needs it. I’m so scared and can’t rest now thinking what is going to happen to her in the morning and also worrying I done the wrong thing but I know for her she needed that hug. I bloody hate this virus.

Glad to hear your Mum's op went well, thinking of you and sending positive vibes to your Mum. Hoping that her recovery is swift, take care of yourself Flowers

I hope she makes a good recovery.
Better to comfort her and deal with the present concerns to hold back over low risk, hypothetical concerns. You are very unlikely to have brought the virus in from the communuty at this point. Flowers

Glad it went OK. Wishing her a speedy recovery now.

emmathedilemma · 16/06/2020 13:40

You totally did the right thing! If you were breaking rules the hospital wouldn't have allowed you in to see her. Stay positive!

MrsScrubbingbrush · 16/06/2020 13:46

You gave your mum comfort and love when she needed it - of course it was the right thing to do.

I hope she makes a speedy recovery and that both of you can hug again very soon.

Oh my gosh. Poor you both. I hope your mum will make it. Fingers crossed. You did a good thing. She needed you. I would do the same. Lots of love to you and your mama

Inkpaperstars · 16/06/2020 17:07

Thinking of you both, I am so sorry you and your mum are going through this Flowers. I really hope your mum is doing as well as could be hoped and there are some positive signs for her recovery xx
