It's now mandatory to wear face mask on public transport with exceptions for disability, young children etc.
This should have been done ages ago.

Surely you need to remove the mask to cough, talk and sneeze? Wouldn't it get really damp and horrible very quickly?

BamboozledandBefuddled · 04/06/2020 19:31

*Can we stop all the nazi shit please? Its really offensive. Who has actually said that anyone needs to wear badges?? And hero worship? Boris??

If you can't draw a distinction between wearing masks to prevent the spread of a novel, virulent disease and nazi Germany then you really need to educate yourself.*

If people are being offensive it's because they're offended. No, the Nazi 'shit' won't stop because valid comparisons are becoming inescapable. Read back through the last 2 or 3 pages if you want the posts about the badges.

nextslideplease · 04/06/2020 19:32

Its definitely discrimination. As a deaf person I cannot lip read. As someone with a lung condition I will struggle to breathe. Yet how do I prove my disabilities other than wearing a badge and labelling myself as a PP said? I'm at risk of a fine if I can't prove my disabilities.

I fear the loss of my independence because I will have to rely more and more on online shopping, take aways and DH so that I don't have to go out and be in this situation. Then when I go back to work, will everyone I encounter be wearing masks?

Anyone who shrugs their shoulders and says its better to be deaf than dead can go get fucked.

LovingLen · 04/06/2020 19:32

I have got a couple but they seem to ping off my ears so I wear one of those Seasalt handybands which seem to be more comfortable, the medical disposal ones I had to wear at work made my ears sore and itchy, it was like eczema. The handyband is a bit hot if it warm but I am a lot less conscious of it.

Noooo!! The mask is a sneeze and cough catcher! There to catch sneezes and coughs!!!! Don't think of it as a mask. It's a strap on hanky. It's protects me from your sneeze droplets if were on the bus together and mine protects you from my cough droplets.

C'mon people!! Surely we can do this?!??!

Faraway20 · 04/06/2020 19:34

Opt out then Mother, I really don't care.

recycledteenager24 · 04/06/2020 19:34

i couldn't wear one as i panic that i won't be able to breathe to the point its a phobia.

Cam77 · 04/06/2020 19:34

“Our aim is to try and reduce the peak, broaden the peak, not suppress it completely; also, because the vast majority of people get a mild illness, (our aim is) to build up some kind of herd immunity so more people are immune to this disease and we reduce the transmission, at the same time we protect those who are most vulnerable to it. Those are the key things we need to do. Communities will become immune to it and that's going to be an important part of controlling this longer term. About 60 per cent is the sort of figure you need to get herd immunity."
Patrick Vallance March 13th

I'm confused. I thought we were trying to build up herd immunity? How are facemasks going to assist in this? Currently at most only perhaps 5 million Brits have had the virus - we need 40 million (60% of the population), surely dont we? Unless the government has now backtracked on its wacky herd immunity strategy even though it denies ever pursuing this strategy, wasting vital weeks when it should have been trying to suppress the virus. Hhmmmmmmm.

Teawiththat · 04/06/2020 19:36

Did I really just read that you need to remove the mask when you cough or sneeze Confused

GalesThisMorning · 04/06/2020 19:36

@BamboozledandBefuddled but it doesn't matter what people on mn say!!! Has the government said that you need to wear a badge or you'll be rounded up?

My grandparents were holocaust survivors. What we're going through, being advised to wear a mask? Not even close. Be offended but don't be offensive. Or ignorant.

MadameMarie · 04/06/2020 19:37

Unpopular opinion but i'd like to see masks on public transport every winter. It'd stop the NHS getting overwhelmed and save a lot of lives/discomfort from flu.

I dread commuting in the winter because there's always someone coughing and sneezing all over you and everyone gets sick because of it.

Derbygerbil · 04/06/2020 19:37

If you’re coughing to the point of getting your mask really damp and horrible, you really shouldn’t be on public transport!

BamboozledandBefuddled · 04/06/2020 19:37

@MadameMarie

Wear a badge or be verbally attacked - or worse - by random members of the public. And you think that can be excused because there's a pandemic?

I'm just aware how people can be. Nearer the start of lockdown I got really shouted at in public for being out and 'not exercising' as I was next to my bike. I had literally stopped for 1 minute to tie my shoelace as it was a hazard while riding.

You just have to be ready to defend yourself if you're perceived to be not following a rule.

Someone has just posted that comparisons with the Nazis are unjustified. And yet, your telling me that I need to 'defend' myself from members of the public because I am legally not wearing a mask on public transport. And you think that's something I should just put up with.

Any member of the public challenging me is going to need more than a face covering to protect them.

NotEverythingIsBlackandWhite · 04/06/2020 19:37

@OnlyFoolsnMothers
'I’m not happy to live forever covering my face in public, if I did perhaps I’d move to Saudi!'
Ffs, no-one is asking you to forever cover your face in public. You are being advised you must wear a face covering on public transport in England from 15th June. Get it right!

If you don't want to do it, then don't use public transport. You have that choice.

MadameMarie · 04/06/2020 19:38

A lot of hayfever symptoms about tbf.

Noextremes2017 · 04/06/2020 19:39

How come Shapps got another outing today? Because he defended Cummings so well?

Shame Sharma didn’t have CV. Then the whole cabinet would have had to isolate and we would not have seen any of the useless wankers for 14 days.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 04/06/2020 19:39

Faraway20excuse me for not trusting this government to run an administrative task
competently.
Welcome to the U.K. 2020: they can ransack bodies for organs, track you on your phone, force people to cover their face, take free travel away from the elderly and children....

strugglingwithdeciding · 04/06/2020 19:39

@MadameMarie I would like to see it acceptable to actually not be expected to go to work with a heavy cold as they always spread and one person taking a week ends up being whole office taking a day

puffinandkoala · 04/06/2020 19:40

If you are deaf you can ask the guard on the train to remove it so you can read their lips. They can stand 2m away to talk to you. Or vice versa.

I am in favour of face coverings in these limited circumstances and glad that the government has finally seen the light. It is not at all like women being told to cover their faces and hair to stop men getting lecherous!

LovingLen · 04/06/2020 19:40

I was wondering about what happened with hay fever, would it not get wet and then cause soreness

JingsMahBucket · 04/06/2020 19:40

Yes, yes you did. 🤦🏻‍♀️ 😂 😬

pennylane83 · 04/06/2020 19:40

Now Johnson will try to reduce social distancing, despite "the science"

Well given that most people have been raging that we didn't follow Europes lead sooner with regards to face masks then I don't really see why those same people would think that reducing the social distance from 2m would be a bad thing given that the majority of Europe adhere to a lesser distance than us and as Europe can do no wrong in the fight against Covid19.....

GalesThisMorning · 04/06/2020 19:41

I think I better leave this thread before we veer onto Bill Gates and 5G and my head actually explodes Confused

Same!

Parker231 · 04/06/2020 19:42

Funny how many other countries manage to wear face covering during a pandemic without it being a problem. My family in Belgium, US and Canada don’t have any issues with it.
