Lying government

Is nobody else noticing that the number of daily death don’t tally up from one day to the next.
For example yesterday the total number was 38,489 and today’s total is 39,045 a difference of 556 not the claimed 111.
Why is this not being picked up and questioned?
Lives are at risk and we’re getting fed a bunch of lies.

111 deaths have been reported from those in hospitals and cafe homes in the past 23 hours up until the cut off.

Not all of those deaths occurred in that 24 hours. They were reported in that time frame.

Another 300+ deaths from previous to this have also been added.

If you go on the slides and data sets stuff on gov.uk there is graphs available and also an explanation of the data.

strugglingwithdeciding · 01/06/2020 18:40

They aren't lying but it takes time to get all info in and it has been explained before . Some countries aren't even reporting there other deaths , we are but it will take time for some to go in but by using daily totals availible it will still give a guide to if it is going down or not etc

Humphriescushion · 01/06/2020 18:50

Why dont they just explain it quickly in the briefing! It is not hard, i did not see that explanation on the gov slides and i am sure i am not the only one. It looks underhand and does not help.

MsHeffaPiglet · 01/06/2020 18:58

So you think our democratically elected government are a total bunch of liars regarding the COVID -19 stats.

But you will believe the less than credible stats from corrupt, authoritarian regimes, such as Russia, Turkey, Iran, India etc.?

MsHeffaPiglet · 01/06/2020 18:59

I should have added China to the list of course!

Have you noticed the small print at the bottom of the screen

Lying government
Happygirl79 · 01/06/2020 19:01

Deaths from Covid19 are much much higher than reported

StatisticalSense · 01/06/2020 19:07

There is no point in unnecessarily scaring people by announcing hundreds of deaths that largely happened weeks ago that are now being picked up due to the addition of an additional reporting stream. Using the higher figure in any headlines would be highly misleading and not representative of the current situation and is therefore not a sound statistic.

Plbrookes · 01/06/2020 19:14

Well it's in the briefing slides which are published so everyone can look at them. Guess people have got to have something to complain about...

Humphriescushion · 01/06/2020 19:15

Not sure i agree @ statisical. It could have been done without scaring people i am sure. Shoehorning these deaths in like that is seems awful to me,

Plbrookes · 01/06/2020 19:47

@Happygirl79 you're saying that covid deaths are much higher than reported by ONS?

Happygirl79 · 01/06/2020 19:52

No thats not what I intended to say
I meant the government headline death rate on their daily chart is far less than the ONS covid-19 death rate shown beneath. Note that the date shown beneath ONS data is two weeks previous to the government daily rate
So in effect the deaths would certainly be more than shown in real time

Plbrookes · 01/06/2020 20:08

And you understand why the numbers are different? And why the ONS figures have a lag before publication? And why it's useful to have an immediate indication of changes in numbers of covid deaths even if it's not as comprehensive as the ONS figures?

SusieOwl4 · 01/06/2020 20:09

The reasons have been explained several times. But don’t let that stop you .

Tbh the government can’t win

Firstly they were criticised for not including care home deaths and deaths at home not in hospital . Then when they put that right now there is some massive drive to say they are deliberately overstating the deaths by putting covid on every death certificate even when it is not the cause of death . Appparently this is a ploy to keep us all under control for longer . Oh but then again they are putting business before threat by lifting lockdown to soon ? Well that does not add up does it ?

It’s really frustrating how many experts leap out of the woodwork when even the WHO and the general scientific community are still learning about this new virus every day and every government world wide are struggling with hundreds or not thousands of decisions at the same time .

But don’t you worry everyone at home has they answer . They knew all along .

I feel full of confidence .

howdidwegetheremary · 01/06/2020 23:01

The worldometer site has now updated to 111 reported today.

Morsmordre · 02/06/2020 21:04

Great comment by SusieOwl4 above. Pretty much spot on!!

Humphriescushion · 03/06/2020 05:57

www.statisticsauthority.gov.uk/correspondence/sir-david-norgrove-response-to-matt-hancock-regarding-the-governments-covid-19-testing-data/

Appears the stats agency is suspicious of government no.s as well.

Scotinengland76 · 03/06/2020 06:05

The ‘headlines’ on a Mumsnet thread are getting worse than the headlines on a tabloid paper.

They’re usually both fake news as demonstrated on this thread

Plbrookes · 03/06/2020 06:39

@Humphriescushion
That link is about data on tests, not data on deaths. You're not lying when you fail to acknowledge that but it does look ... underhand.

twinnywinny14 · 03/06/2020 06:45

@StatisticalSense so in an attempt not to frighten people they add 445 deaths to the total (and 121 last week by the way) without saying anything and hope people don’t notice? And if they do surely they are more frightened? I feel they shouldn’t be adding deaths without telling us about it, that does nothing for public confidence when this government want to be clear and transparent. That so we 600 actual people that are just added on there without mention, and it also means that the death toll is higher for the days these deaths happened but weren’t counted. I would like to see the real figures as everyone is jumping up and down saying the death toll is at its lowest without knowing what the actual tolls have been

Humphriescushion · 03/06/2020 06:55

I know that i read it, but if they are being underhand about that and need to be called out on it then it is understandable why people are supsicous about other figures.

Plbrookes · 03/06/2020 07:27

@twinnywinny14
The daily figures are corrected. Please read the General Notes and Notes on Deaths Figures sections in the link below.
www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-information-for-the-public

FrancesV83 · 03/06/2020 07:29

@twinnywinny14 Exactly that. I understand there are historic deaths and the figures will need constant readjustment but they should be honest about that.

OP posts:
Plbrookes · 03/06/2020 07:49

Sigh! They are honest about it. It doesn't matter what they do of course, you want your feeling of being so hard-done-by by a dishonest government and you won't let any facts stop that.
