Lying government

Is nobody else noticing that the number of daily death don’t tally up from one day to the next.
For example yesterday the total number was 38,489 and today’s total is 39,045 a difference of 556 not the claimed 111.
Why is this not being picked up and questioned?
Lives are at risk and we’re getting fed a bunch of lies.

Ye gods!

I feel they shouldn’t be adding deaths without telling us about it, But they do! They tell us that in every set of slides, YouGov website, ONS site and when they talk about the rolling 7 day average - they say "that has been adjusted for late data" and explain that late data once or twice a week. Jennie Harries last week spent a couple of minutes on it... that is a LONG time on one graph.

that does nothing for public confidence when this government want to be clear and transparent. Well, the public that watches, listens and reads know what the figures are!

That so we 600 actual people that are just added on there without mention Again, they were mentioned

and it also means that the death toll is higher for the days these deaths happened but weren’t counted. Again, they were counted.

I would like to see the real figures as everyone is jumping up and down saying the death toll is at its lowest without knowing what the actual tolls have been Again. You have convinced yourself of something that is not true.

THIS is why I have been shouting about Media influence and lies for so long. The government has put out so much data. That link about the tests, for instance. When interviewed one of the point made was that the government has been so insistant on putting out all data so as not to be seen to be hiding anything. But the problem,as we are alos seeing here, is that the load of data is not simple A+B=C and so the message is being confused. The criticism wasn't that they were lying but that they preferred transparency to being crystal clear.

The mass media role in this could have been to discuss the data sets and explain any perceived anomalies. When that has been done it has been really interesting and useful. But it doesn't make good headlines.

So we have threads like this!

Can i ask curious where were they mentioned? - not a footnote. I dont regard a footnote as mentioned sorry.

TabbyMumz · 03/06/2020 09:05

"Lives are at risk and we’re getting fed a bunch of lies"
How ridiculous is this. Goodness me. Give your head a wobble. Do you really think they would purposely give wrong figures for what...a couple of hundred out when we are up to nearly 40,000. Do you really think there is someone saying "let's just drop this by a couple of hundred, noone will notice, and it will look much better!

TabbyMumz · 03/06/2020 09:06

And your first thought is that they are lying to you,! Hmm

Plbrookes · 03/06/2020 10:53

@Humphriescushion
If you don't regard a footnote as 'mentioned' then you don't understand what 'mentioned' means. How about the first paragraph on slide 7 of the 2 June briefing? Or don't you count slides beyond 6 as being 'mentioned' ?

CuriousaboutSamphire · 03/06/2020 11:43

Can i ask curious where were they mentioned? - not a footnote. I dont regard a footnote as mentioned sorry. What do you mean?

After all the lists of where the information you say is missing is published you talk about a footnote???? And a mention?????

You are simply not reading anything anyone posts. Why that surprises me I am not sure, you seem to have missed it on every government website and every daily briefing too!

Humphriescushion · 03/06/2020 11:45

I would want it to be announced, sorry if that is too much ask of the government. I really dont think it is.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 03/06/2020 11:51

I would want it to be announced, sorry if that is too much ask of the government. I really dont think it is. What in God's name are you talking about?

Look, I actually typed it out for you.... they say "that has been adjusted for late data" and explain that late data once or twice a week. Jennie Harries last week spent a couple of minutes on it... that is a LONG time on one graph.

Daily Briefing - what does that mean to you?

To the rest of us it is the time the government sets aside every single day to tell us, the public, the day's data, guidance changes, global news about all sorts of stuff.

Is that not anouncement enough?

They then go on to publish it on the government webiste and the ONS website and many others, NHS etc.

Is that not announcement enough for you?

What do you want? Town Cryers????

Plbrookes · 03/06/2020 11:56

No doubt we'll find Humphriescushion on another thread complaining that no-one here has explained where this was mentioned.

Pertella · 03/06/2020 11:57

I want someone to come to my house and explain it to me in person, dammit! Especially if it is done via the medium of interpretive dance.

Anything less is the government lying and trying to hide things from me.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 03/06/2020 11:58

Grin You are probably right.

DGRossetti · 03/06/2020 12:19

Lying government
Humphriescushion · 03/06/2020 12:23

I was happy to try and engage with this, however i can see there is no point.

Plbrookes · 03/06/2020 12:33

Possibly the least self-aware post I've ever seen on Mumsnet.

Pertella · 03/06/2020 13:08

It's like people dont bother to read the thread before posting 🤷‍♀️

CuriousaboutSamphire · 03/06/2020 13:13

Yes DGR??? The problem with that is it only makes the point you think it does if you, as posters here do, ignore the narrative that accompanies those figures.

It's not a clever meme. Quite the opposite, it is lazy and relies on the reader also being too lazy to take onboard well disseminated information.

Poorly done.
