To have seen people's true colours during lockdown

Has anyone been surprised by the behaviour of people they thought they knew during this period of lockdown?

I'm actually astounded by the amount of hypocrisy around. For example, several work colleagues of mine have constantly gone on about how they've totally adhered during their periods of working from home/on furlough. Now we're back in the office it's all coming out now how they've been to other people's houses every weekend boozing and partying. One colleague had a birthday barbecue this weekend and posted picturea on her Facebook inches away from friends from different households.

I feel like I've totally lost respect for most of them.

Try to not be bothered by what other people do/did/didn't do. They made their choices. Another thing - people lie.

I'd be shocked and disappointed myself if a colleague I previously respected did that (some however, I fully expect to do just that...)
I would take everything they say afterwards with a huge pinch of salt.
Trust is very important in my line of work.

I feel it but sort of the opposite way round. I have pretty much ignored what other people are doing and assumed they have good reason if I happen to notice that they are behaving differently to me in terms of lockdown rules. Of course there are people who behave more riskily but there always were. It’s the people who I previously thought to be kind and thoughtful who are suddenly going around calling others murderers for perceived transgressions, or not understanding why someone might want to talk about how they are finding things difficult. The sheer lack of sympathy for any circumstances that aren’t COVID-related. The cruel response “you’re just being asked to sit on your arse and watch Netflix”. It’s horrible the relish with which some people seem to say cruel and dismissive things to others. But I’ve seen AIBU on here over the years so it’s not that surprising. With my own sympathetic hat on, I guess a lot of these reactions come from fear.

For me it's the wannabe police officers that have got to me more than anything. I can understand why someone might see their family when it wasn't in the guidance, but I really cannot understand strangers hollering at a random member of the public about what is essential and what isn't and calling them murderers for buying shampoo. They will be the people I would have avoided in future if I knew any of them.

Our friends/neighbours over the road have had their parents over EVERY day. It started a day here and there but now it is literally every day and it has been for the past 3 weeks or so.

It's really irritating when you're following the rules and haven't seen anyone and they're over there crying about being high risk while breaking the rules Hmm

It's a couple with kids btw. One of the adults is high risk but the other goes out to do the food shop etc so it's not even like the parents are coming over to drop off stuff.

It's made me look at them differently for sure.

Yes. I am not sure if I have said anything on MN but I have ranted quite a lot to DH about this!

Before lockdown, but when large gatherings etc were stopped, I suggested to our running club that we could go out in pairs for socially distanced runs (this was allowed at the time). One of the running club committee members was furious for some reason and got my post deleted from the Facebook group and another post came up saying "on no account may members use this group to arrange meet-ups". Of course then lockdown happened and it was moot anyway.

Until yesterday we were allowed to meet with ONE other person from another household. Not two. Stroppy committee member and partner (with diabetes) met up with one other friend of mine for a run. No it wasn't high risk. But it was against the rules. She is a bossy cow who made me feel miserable for no reason and it has made me not want to go back to the club.

I feel so disappointed in some of my family. Our young daughter is being shielded and very unwell atm but family members don’t seem to understand and think that we as parents are being OTT. The reality is they don’t overly care about her health, and that hurts.

I see what it are saying OP. Ive a friend who constantly calls anyone out for her perception of "breaking the rules" which is often wrong.
Posts all the "stay the fuck at home" wails about the lockdown lifting just means theres more room in the ITU for you. You get the idea.
Spoke to her last night and shes been having her family round pretty much every day, had a birthday party/sleepover for her DS and various play dates for her other children. Amongst various other things.
I was gobsmacked. I mean, do whatever, I'm not the covid police but ffs dont be such a raging fucking hypocrite making other people feel like shit for not breaking the rules when you are doing exactly that.

They were only trying to save lives. Misguided maybe but the heart was in the right place. The people who just don't give a shit are the worst.

No I don't think so. Some people have gone power mad. It's a control thing not a genuine care for people's lives with most of these people. These are the same people who will relish deaths because they can say "well I told you so" it's vile.

Yes! I've found the number of people especially on SM who have turned into wannabe police officers,curtain twitchers and rabid reporters far more scary than corona.

No, let’s not allow fear of coronavirus to excuse abusive behaviour. Whether they believed they were trying to save lives makes no difference - shouting things like that is cruel and unnecessary

I think the people having big parties and going to packed beaches are idiots but worse are the curtain twitchers, shopping basket stasi etc. You can just tell they’d have been the ones dobbing neighbours into the Nazis for protecting Jews.

I know of 2 instances were innocent people have been reported to the police. The police have turned up on both occasions and no crime or breaking of lock down rules has happened.

It's the hypocrites that have really pissed me off. If you want to break the rules then go ahead, I can't stop you. But don't post on social media about all the arseholes breaking the rules, hashtagging StayHomeSaveLives every 5 minutes and banging on your saucepan every Thursday when you've got half the town in your living room. I'm disappointed with what I've learnt about quite a few people during this.
