Why aren't there angry posts about Tim Matthews admitting he made up Dominic Cummings sighting?

Tim Matthews has admitted he made up a sighting of Dominic Cummings at Barnard Castle for a joke. It wasn't a very funny joke. I haven't heard anyone laughing about and why has it taken until now to admit it was a lie?

Scotland’s Chief Medical Officer resigned for putting far fewer people at risk than DC did - she drove, while healthy, to a 2nd home, to check on it, then drove back without coming into contact with anyone else. She admitted to breaking the rules. DC ponced around the country while thinking his wife may have covid, that he may have covid, or possibly when neither of them was actually ill but wanted to have a trip to Durham to stay there for a while, when he was too ill to drive to pick his child up from hospital, and to test his eyesight.

The ironic thing about the DM story is that it's just reignited the conversation again.

FliesandPies · 31/05/2020 10:58

It did make me laugh though, the DM trying to portray Bozo-the-unfunny-clown as an authority figure telling Cummings that he's on a final warning.

I assume DM means that they are issuing that final warning to Cummings..

I missed that, NotEeverything.... I look at all the newspapers online on every day and home in on some articles but didn't see that.

It's scandalous.

Lynda07 · 31/05/2020 11:06

PS, I do wish it had come out earlier instead of bringing the story back to the fore.

MockersxxxxxxxSocialDistancing · 31/05/2020 11:07

Occasionally, the mask slips. Like when Thatcher said to Wogan, "Have what you like, it's on the taxpayer," and he replied, "I am a taxpayer, I'll have a glass of water."

Then there was Cameron bicycling to 10DS as PM, with his ministerial car crawling along behind with his red box. And Osborne trying to sneak into first class on a standard ticket.

That one is worth persuing. Osborne would have been fully entitled to claim for first class train travel if he was working, but he wanted it on the published expenses that he was roughing it with the plebs in cattle class.

And on Sky this morning, stand-in PM Raab claims he had no idea where Cummings was and it never crossed his mind to ask.

Saladmakesmesad · 31/05/2020 11:07

The government want to spin this line that people are angry at the media. We’re not. We’re angry at them based on the facts and admitted by D.C during his inappropriate rose garden conference. He should be fired.

saraclara · 31/05/2020 11:11

You have a special needs 4 year old

@vdbfamily his child does not have special needs. That was a fake tweet posted by someone who later deleted their account. It was picked up by those wanting to defend DC, despite there being absolutely no evidence for it.

vdbfamily · 31/05/2020 11:17

Sara....it is not made up actually. I thought it was until yesterday but a cousin of mine works in London with a friend of the Cummings family and the child does have additional needs, but obviously DC has not wanted to use this info himself.

GabsAlot · 31/05/2020 11:19

he shouldnt have made it up but cummings already broke the rules so its neither here nor there

PicsInRed · 31/05/2020 11:22

If Dominic Cummings was a Labour advisor, they would be falling over themselves to defend him and support his care for his family. They would rage at the angry, threatening and and politically motivated hounding of his home whilst his wife and 4 year old were inside.

They are raging at him due to Brexit. That's it.

multivac · 31/05/2020 11:23

"a cousin of mine works in London with a friend of the Cummings family"

Well, I don't think I've heard a more credible source than that for a while!

tabulahrasa · 31/05/2020 11:27

The thing is... if his son does have autism as has been claimed by Twitter.

It’s even worse to drag the poor boy the length of the country so a teenager can potentially look after him rather than staying in his familiar surroundings and employing specialist childcare as and when needed and keeping as much of his routine as normal as possible.

Walkaround · 31/05/2020 11:28

PicsInRed - I doubt that, somehow, as it would not play out well for the Labour Party if they were stupid enough to do that.

FliesandPies · 31/05/2020 11:33

Sara....it is not made up actually. I thought it was until yesterday but a cousin of mine works in London with a friend of the Cummings family and the child does have additional needs, but obviously DC has not wanted to use this info himself.

And yet he is quite happy to put his child into the centre of his pack of lies account by talking about childcare and actually carrying the child out into the middle of a press scrum in an attempt to garner sympathy.

FliesandPies · 31/05/2020 11:36

If Dominic Cummings was a Labour advisor, they would be falling over themselves to defend him and support his care for his family.

Like the Tories have done you mean? Tweeting their support and suggesting what he did was fine and caring for his family ffs. What a massive kick in the teeth to all those other parents who did what they were instructed to do and isolated at home with their children.

FliesandPies · 31/05/2020 11:38

*"a cousin of mine works in London with a friend of the Cummings family"

It wasn't Auntie Jackies sister's brother's boy was it?

ITonyah · 31/05/2020 11:39

The press are not going to stop on this - they are going to dig and dig til they've turned his life upside-down

Then that makes them spoilt, dangerous areseholes.

NotEverythingIsBlackandWhite · 31/05/2020 11:43

If it is the truth, then wouldn't it have been better to say what had happened - rather than refuse to comment on the Barnard Castle allegations.
Yes.

FliesandPies · 31/05/2020 11:43

How are they 'spoilt'?
How are they 'dangerous'?

Arseholes - well that depends where you stand on this scandal. Personally I think they are doing an important and worthwhile job

ITonyah · 31/05/2020 11:45

Deliberately destroying someone's life because you can't get them any other way is despicable. Particularly dragging his parents and family into it.

multivac · 31/05/2020 11:48

because you can't get them any other way
What does this mean?

CuriousaboutSamphire · 31/05/2020 11:51

Good grief the entanglements!

Nobody could claim DC is a well liked man and there are so very many issues he could and should be held to account on.

But read yourselves back... His kid does have SN he's a bastard for using that as an excuse. He didn't? It was.a Twitter Twat lie? He's still a bastard for having a kid! Bastard!

Focus!!!!

What do you want to hate him for?

Why so you want to spend so much energy on this one man for?

So very many other elected politicians are now having their indiscretions revealed. But the media still focuses on DC.

Some posters have even read into today's headlines some further conspiracy theory about BJ or some such shit!!

Why???

Distraction? The simile of a focus, a locus of presumed control (should any of those petitions ever bear fruit)?

Never going to happen.

DC will stick because of all the obfuscation or he will bust, but only if a journalist does some proper, vigorous journalism.

FliesandPies · 31/05/2020 11:51

Firstly - The press are reporting what he said. So if his life is destroyed he has done it to himself with his arrogance and stupidity.

Secondly - He dragged his own parents/family into it by putting them at the centre of his excuse.
