WE can meet family

OP posts:
ineedaholidaynow · 28/05/2020 17:46

I also think 6 is to keep groups down. Remember this can be in public too. Much easier to manage social distancing when only 6 people, if say you have a group of ten in a park and drink is involved how much will they end up socially distancing?

MorrisZapp · 28/05/2020 17:47

Of course people in flats can meet up. Why on earth couldn't they?

imsooverthisdrama · 28/05/2020 17:47

I think the number 6 because say a family of 4 plus 2 parents for example.
It's not ideal for everyone but it's so you can see your parents and all those people that live alone too .
My dh can ask his parents round but he can't see his sister yet and the dc but it's better than nothing . Grin

Perisoire · 28/05/2020 17:47

Clearly driven by Cummings. All the sooner to drown out continued criticism.

MorrisZapp · 28/05/2020 17:48

Would 'everyone can meet up now!' been a better public health message?

ineedaholidaynow · 28/05/2020 17:48

I also assume if you are a family of 6 you have quite a bit of company between yourselves. This is mainly for people who don’t have any company. This is a start. If people keep flouting the rules lockdown may become strict again.

BamboozledandBefuddled · 28/05/2020 17:49

How absolutely stupid. So people in flats can't meet up? Pathetic.

Many blocks of flats have communal gardens. Ours does. I'll be avoiding it like the plague and doing very thorough hand washing whenever I've been through communal areas.

imsooverthisdrama · 28/05/2020 17:49

Surely though not everyone needs to be 2m apart- only those from separate households. So the 3 of us in my family can sit together 2m from another family of 3 who all sit together.
Good god !!obviously Hmm
Of course people from same household can sit together.
Are you serious? Confused

trappedsincesundaymorn · 28/05/2020 17:49

The way I see it is this....if you can use the toilets at work, when you have no idea who's been there before you, then it's ok to use a member of you family's as long as you clean it afterwards. I'm more likely to trust my sisters toilet to be clean than than those at work.

ChaoticCatling · 28/05/2020 17:50

If you have four in your family couldn't you invite four but only two of your family go outside at a time?

ineedaholidaynow · 28/05/2020 17:51

Meeting up has to be outside as this reduces the risk of transmitting the virus.

Flaxmeadow · 28/05/2020 17:51

Say you're a family of 6... you can't have anyone round? How bloody stupid

The 6 will have been decided by scientists.

Why can't people understand that the lock down rules aren't about them personally?

YummiestBut · 28/05/2020 17:51

People have already been doing this albeit in their front gardens. My sister has been visiting my parents for weeks - mostly talking through the front door. I've had friends visiting me in the front garden since day one (on their daily walks).

I'm shielding, so have been stuck in for weeks.

I don't see the problem with the new rule.

Gronky · 28/05/2020 17:51

Still no good when my mum lives 260 miles away. Can’t do that and back in a day.

You can't manage 2 lots of 4 hours of driving?

ZaZathecat · 28/05/2020 17:51

I was wondering if Airbnb's will be up and running again, which would allow us to visit relatives who don't live nearby. They didn't cover that, just said not to stay at other peoples' houses.

ineedaholidaynow · 28/05/2020 17:54

Hotels etc aren’t allowed to open yet. Unfortunately for those of us who moved away from family, it is the price you pay.

Grandmi · 28/05/2020 17:54

The R is still only just below 1 so the advice is in everyone’s interests to follow the guidelines..and no I am not a Boris fan but do agree with these changes.

Thewheelsonthebus23 · 28/05/2020 17:54

@ZaZathecat I would like to know that too!

RichardMarxisinnocent · 28/05/2020 17:54

How absolutely stupid. So people in flats can't meet up? Pathetic.
Of course they can, I live in a flat and have met with two different people in a park.

toobusytothink · 28/05/2020 17:54

Hooray! But ..... I still think the Scottish way is much clearer. Doesn’t this mean that 6 18 yr old mates can all meet up for a Bbq - all from different households, yet my family of 4 can’t meet up with my sister’s family if 3 so just 2 households mixing. And Scottish gives guidance that you can only meet up with one other household in a day rather than this wishy washy stuff ...

maxiflump1 · 28/05/2020 17:54

Looking forward to seeing my parents but no idea how we are going to make my 18 month old stay 2m away from his grandparents who he adores.

Sparklingbrook · 28/05/2020 17:55

Good job the weather is so nice! How would this be going if it was December? ⛄️
I do feel for people with no friends or family or any close enough, people with no garden and the group that are still shielding.

notalwaysalondoner · 28/05/2020 17:56

We’re 6 in our house. Do they really exprct one of us to sit in the house when my aunt comes round?

But it’s fine, I just ask “what would Dom do?” And that guides me to what I should actually do, regardless of what the rules say. Smile

LST · 28/05/2020 17:56

@Flaxmeadow.. so Scotland and Spains scientists have different info to the English ones then?

1forsorrow · 28/05/2020 17:57

*Thewheelsonthebus23 That is hard for you, my kids are between 3 and 4 hrs away so no good for us either but at least we have a garden. Oh for life to be normal again.
