Coronavirus and periods

Sorry, bit of a random one: has anyone noticed a change to their periods since lockdown?

Mine came a whole 2 weeks early, which has never happened before as I’m regular as clockwork. Read online and it seems to be normal because of stress etc, but just wondering if anyone else is noticing their periods have gone bonkers.

Thank you!

Yes mine arrived a week early towards the beginning of lockdown after being as regular as clockwork from day dot. It has been fine since though. I put it down to stress..

cooperage · 28/05/2020 17:03

Mine vanished completely. I didn't have one at all between the end of January and this week. I was seriously starting to think that corona stress had brought on an instant menopause.

lucieee · 28/05/2020 17:05

Yep, I went from a 28 day cycle to a 48 day cycle!

KeysDontBelongInTheFridge · 28/05/2020 17:23

Good to hear other people’s periods have also taken on a mind of their own!

@cooperage I momentarily thought I was going through an early menopause too - argh!

Look at the other 3/4 threads on this - pandemic affecting menstrual cycle for a start. Articles written on this suggest it's anxiety related rather than directly coronavirus-caused.

Fizzl · 28/05/2020 17:43

Ah I'm glad I've just seen this! I'm also having a mysterious absent period this month! On CD35 of a usual regular(ish) 28-30 cycle. No sign of it arriving anytime soon either. I'm ttc so it's super annoying and I have no idea what's going on but did wonder if it's the change of routine that's affected it. I don't feel stressed or anxious at all, in fact I've quite liked this slower pace of life and being able to work from home and not run around like a headless chicken.

ghostmous3 · 28/05/2020 22:19

Me. Mine was a week late, lighter than normal but I'm still bleeding 3 weeks later. It's not heavy now but brown.

I'm normally pretty regular and it never lasts longer than 6 days. Went to the docs yesterday, she examined me and said I seemed fine but put it down to stress and starting peri menopause I'm 42.

I'm worried sick about it.

ghostmous3 · 28/05/2020 22:19

Could someone link to these threads please. I've tried searching but nothing comes up

Winnipegdreamer · 28/05/2020 22:24

Could it be that you’re no longer around people who you’d likely match cycles with?

yarncakes · 28/05/2020 22:26

My last cycle arrived on time (my cycles are about 36 days long), but before that, it didn't arrive until day 46.

My period went bonkers just after lockdown. I was unwell too with coronavirus symptoms (was not tested for it) so I think that had an impact too.

GabriellaMontez · 28/05/2020 22:27

Yes I also thought I was having an early menopause. Now I'm on a 17 day period. There is another thread somewhere about period weirdness.

Sunshineonacloudyday20 · 28/05/2020 22:27

Yes mine came a week early... never ever happens! I'm usually late if anything.. so strange!

ghostmous3 · 28/05/2020 22:37

'Yes I also thought I was having an early menopause. Now I'm on a 17 day period'

I'm not the only one then. It's such a worry and that probmakes it worse

My doc said shes going to refer me for a scan next week but I dont think my hospital.are doing scans at the moment.

I hate all this worry

KeysDontBelongInTheFridge · 28/05/2020 22:55

@ghostmous3 I think my worry is definitely making the situation worse. I worry I’m stressing too much about my early period / the cause of it that it will make my period come early again. It’s like a never ending circle of worry!

Have read meditation helps with anxiety so I’m
now seeing if that helps.

@GabriellaMontez do you mean your period has lasted for 17 days, or you’re on a 17 day cycle? My last cycle was 15 days. Eek.

GabriellaMontez · 28/05/2020 23:05

17 day cycle ffs. Never had anything like it.

ghostmous3 · 28/05/2020 23:31

I've been bleeding for 3 weeks. That's never ever happened in my life :(

Lovely1a2b3c · 28/05/2020 23:32

Waiting for mine after 10 days. No chance of pregnancy. Hoping my period starts soon (and isn't completely missed) as I have terrible PMS/PMDD and have been concerned I might have PCOS/premature ovarian failure.

TheBabyAteMyBrain · 28/05/2020 23:34

Yup, bleeding in between and then over a week late. I've had 28 day cycles forever, as regular as clock work. Even after each pregnancy and with bfing, when they came back they slotting straight back into 28 days. Such strange times.

JamMakingWannaBe · 28/05/2020 23:45

I usually have a 34/35 day cycle. This month I was two weeks early with raging PMT but a lighter flow than normal and shorter. I'm very stressed with work but I'll be interested to see what happens this cycle as I'm too thinking about peri-menopause.

incognitomum · 28/05/2020 23:48

Thank God it's not just me. Mine is to pot! Had very dark bleeding for ages.

It's bizarre though isn't it?

ghostmous3 · 29/05/2020 00:09

It's very strange. I had suspected corona virus early april, had a normal period 2 days after symptoms but havent felt that well since. Light headed and dizzy, tired, achy, just off for the past 6 weeks then boom a late period and constant bleeding with dark brown blood. Blood tests are ok and no wee infection etc.

My stress levels are through the roof though and were a little before the lockdown. Dp has had a bowel cancer scare which has thankfully proved all clear although does need an op and I'm being made redundant too. Routine all gone to pot and I really do feel crap mentally ( I know I'm not the only one but might be why my cycles gone to shit)

Cornishmumofone · 29/05/2020 00:32

I'm trying to work out whether I'm in a Coronavirus-anxiety cycle or just peri menopausal. I'm 42 and on day 52 of my cycle now. I usually have a 27 day cycle (+/-2), but my last cycle was 36 days and now this :-(

Lessofallthisunpleasantness · 29/05/2020 00:40

All females in our house now fully in sync all started within a day of each other!

priya38 · 29/05/2020 00:42

Mines been weird too since lockdown. The past two or three cycles I've started to get mid cycle mild cramping that lasts for a couple of days with very slight spotting almost nothing there If I have sex during this time frame it causes bleeding.
